Updating on my last posting.
HARGRAVE, Frederick Lawton Leopold, sometimes names are switched as in 19121 census he is HARGRAVE, Lawton Frederick.
He was born 1893 in Earlsfield, Surrey. His father (Charles) was born in Brighouse, Yorkshire and his mother (Emily) in North Weald Essex. Frederick was a wireman/electrical engineer in 1911.
He died in 1926 aged 33, distant family says in a motorcycle accident - I still have that to research.
Does this ring any bells with anyone.

Thanks a lot
Tony Brown

Re: LOOKING FOR HARGRAVE, OR HARGRAVES FROM SURRY CO. VA.

Sandra,
I do not have much information, but perhaps there is a link. My GG Grandfather, Holleman Whitmore, married a Warren in Surry County in 1823. His wife died probably between 1834 and 1836, and he married a Susan B Hargrave, b June 1818, married in 1836 -- they were in Chesterfield County when they married from what I can tell.

I recall seeing the Hargrave name in Surry County as well as Chesterfield -- figured the families may have known each other in Surry.

If this Susan is a daughter or niece of your Susan - perhaps you might find info by looking for her children by Holleman/Holoman Whitmore -- they were Adaline R, b Feb 1844, and Andrew E., b Oct. 1846.

Will be interested in your results -- I have not found a death date for Holleman (who was born in 1799) or for Susan B. Hargrave.
Maggie Hodge

I have Leroy Hargrave in my data base, although I have his father as 'J.F. Hargrave'. Texas death cert # 5475 states that he died of intestional obstruction. It also states that he was married.Leroy's branch of the family stems from John Hargrave, Rev soldier who died in Illinois. Some of his descandants moved south into northern Arkansas and later into Texas. This is a coladaral for me, but I trace all Hargrave families.

My name is Linda McClure. My great grandfather's name was William Carter who married Annie Hargrave. I have been searching for information for on my family tree, but living in Montana, research is difficult. I would appreciate if you would share information you have found on the Carters. I have names going back for two more generations, but I am having problems connecting them. My grandfather Willis Byford Carter told me his family came from TN and his real mother died. I am not sure if Annie Hargrave is his birth mother or if his father William remarried and Annie Hargrave was his step mother. He mentioned how good the Hargrave Family treated him.
Thank you in advance for your help. Linda

In 2002, we found a yearbook from Oak Cliff High in a second hand store. He was in the yearbook often so I looked for a descendant and I was contacted by a man from California, I believe. I sent the yearbook to him. I thought he said Malcomb Hargrave was his grandfather. That's all I know about him. I don't have the man's name or address any longer, sorry.

Looking for any information about Samuel Hargrave and Ann Smith Parents
My Great Great Great Grandfather Samuel Hargrave was born in 1800 in the Broxton/Malpas area of Cheshire in the North West of England. He was born at a time when the Railways were in their infancy. The next three generations would contribute to the golden age of the building and running of the coal fired steam locomotives that transported people around the Cheshire area and beyond

He started as a labourer, probably preparing landscape moving earth mounds laying down the track ties. Back in those days everything was manual and the work would have been hard.

On 17th January 1826 he married Ann Smith, at Chester Saint John Cheshire England. Ann was born in Escord Flint in 1796.
The St. John’s marriage register shows the following:-

Page 162.

MARRIAGES Solemnized in the Parish of Saint John the Baptist
In the County of the City and Diocese of Chester in the Year 1826.
Samuel Hargrave, Labourer of this Parish
Bachelor
and Ann Smith of this Parish
Spinster
Were married in this church by Banns
This seventeenth day of
January in the Year One thoufand eight hundred and Twenty six
By me W.
Re: Looking for James Hargrave, Dubois County, Indiana

As long as you are counting Hargraves in Dubois County in 1820, don't forget Martha Hargrave who married John Niblack in 1821. John bought land in Dubois County in 1817.

Hello -

I think I posted to the wrong person re the picture you have. I have the same picture. Mary Verna Hargrave Richey is my mother. The other ladies in the picture are Vera Klyde Campbell Hargrave, Mary Frances Hollon McCullough, and Hannah Hollon Heath. This is what my mother told me. Vera's mother was Mary Ella McCullough Campbell(Mary Frances Hollon McCullough's dau who died of typhoid). My mother married Foy F Richey, son of Hurley Lee Richey and Cora Alice Bradford.

I have not researched the older McCullough's as much as I have other families although I do have some information on them.

Kay

Hello - I came across your post on Ancestry re Mary Verna Hargrave. You are right: she is the dau of Ernest Albert Hargrave and Vera (not Verna) Klyde Campbell. She was married to Foy F Richey, son of Hurley Lee Richey and Cora ALice Bradford. Ernest Albert Hargrave was the brother of Ercil Harrington Hargrave and both were sons of Benoni Isaac and Margaret Elmira Clark Hargrave.
