Hi. Much of the content sounds familiar. But nothing I can claim as being my family. In my case the spelling Hargraves is used on my 2xgt.g.father's marriage certificate when Daniel Hargraves married Maria Smith in 1844 at Bradford Parish Church. His fathers name was given as being Richard. I got a copy which gave his age as being 28 yrs. I've done look up since, and in my oppinion this is a transcriptin error that should read 23 yrs. Daniel had a son Richard 1860 Bradford. 1861c census lists the family as Hargraves, after that all ref. to the family has been Hargreaves. I've found the varient name and discrepancy in age very frustrating. To add to my problem there's 2 Daniel Hargraves / Hargreaves of the same era. With the age discrepancy also inherited by his son Richard. Although he was still alive in 1871c aged 11 yrs. So it's not a case of one died and another renamed after him. A follow on message to this mention a possible connection to Leicester'shire. On my branch Richard 1860 married a Mary Hodgkins 1871 Bfd. Her gr. parents had their roots in Leicester'shire. As bfd. was "building" up in industry particularly the Woolen trade & mills. I can see why extended family, invited others to follow. The name Hargreaves does come in 2 ndly. on Mary's ancestral branch. But that's in the 1700s. The names Jowett and Martin, I would expect to connect to, sooner or later. But as yet I hav'ent. I would like to follow the progress of your message and see if we could help each other out on this Hargraves / Hargreaves.

My George Hargraves had a son James born about 1879 in Missouri. I'm sorry about misspelling Georges wifes name, should have been Missouri Vest. They can be found on the 1880 census, but the name is spelled Haregrava. They were living in Shawnee, Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the time. Hope this helps, Mae

Over the years the Hargraves surname has been spelled many different ways. Most of the time, people spelled it the way it sounded. It has been spelled ---Hargraves, Hargrave, Hargraven, Hardgrave, Hardgraves, Hargroven, Hargroves, Hardgraven, Heargraves, Hergrave, Hergraves, Heirgraves, Heirgraven. Many of our ancestors didn't bother with correct spelling so you will find many of them with different variations of the surname in Texas, Louisiania, Oklahoma and many other places.

We have family all over the US and spread out through the different indian tribes and countries over seas. I found the hargraves family crest and it shows ancestry all the way back to the early 1600's. Feel free to email me if you like, I will dig it out of storage and give you the info that I have. Family is very important.

Searching for H. K. Hargraves who lived in Austin, Texas, in early 1900's

I am seeking for any information on H. K. Hargraves who lived in Austin, Texas in the early 1900's. I do not know what his initials stand for, or anything else except his death date in 1913.

He was married to Maude Elizabeth Young for a year or so and then died on April 02, 1913. He is supposed to be buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, but there is no gravestone. Maude married Frank M. Delashmutt about 1916. Frank owned DeLashmutt's Shoe Store in Austin. Maude, a sister to my grandfather, lived to be 102 and is buried with Frank (and his other two wives) in Oakwood Cemetery.

Thank you for any help.
Ernest Young

Hargraves/Hareaves around Addingham, YKS, Colne, LANCS. etc

Hello, my ancestor Richard Lancaster married a Mary Hargraves/Hagraves in Bolton by Bowland, near Gisburn in the mid 1700s. She was supposed to be from Addingham. But I also wonder if there was a Methodism aspect moving them around the area. Richard is said to have helped bring Methodism to Colne, where one of the local Methodist families was also named Hargreaves. There was a meeting house in Keighley and one in Gisburn, which is where Richard probably came from.
See http://users.skynet.be/lancaster/Macleay%20Lancasters.html

Would love to hear any advice!
Regards
Andrew

I have been searching for my Hargraves family in the Kingston. Ulster Co. NY area in the 1900 census with no success, even though I'm sure they were there. I decided to browse the town of Ulster and found a family with the name of Hardgraves who had children with the same names as my relatives.
I wonder if this was commonly done or if any one else hase found the same. The only other answer would be an error by the census taker.

John Hargraves - Lanarkshire, Lanark, Scotland 1847

John Hargraves: Feb. 14, 1847-June 9, 1927. His daughter, Lucinda Elizabeth, is my great grandmother. He married her mother July 21, 1873. The search I did reveiled that out of all his spouses (I think there were 6) 4 of them he somehow married on the same date:). Someone must have been unsure of his wife's name. They are all very similar. Thing is, 2 of them were born in Lanarkshire about 1851, and the other 2 in Five Points, Utah May 28, 1857 and died in Wapato, WA June 30, 1963. Their names: Shaffea, Mahetable Lucinda - Mahetable, Lucinda Shaffer (Lanarkshire) - Lucinda Mahetible Hargraves and Lucinda Mahetible Shaffer (Five Points, Utah). If anyone can help, please email me: keariebearie@yahoo.com. Thanks.
Carrie
