Hi, I also have a Gibson Harland born Whitby Yorkshire in 1854,on my tree, his parents were John Harland and Ann Gibson. Gibson Harlands children were- Richard Gibson Harland Frederick Harland, Herbert Lancelot Harland charles Harland and Wm Broughton Harland there could be others as well. His wife was Clara Broughton. My ancestor Charles HARLAND was reportedly related to the "Harland and Wolff" shipbuilders. Info I have is that he was born in Hull, England and emigrated to the US ca. 1856. Resided in Pennsylvania for some time, then came to New Brunswick, New Jersey after 1860. Charles was a tailor and died in 1906, his wife Nora (?) having died before 1900. Children included MARY (m. John Anderson), CHARLES, KATIE, and possibly others.

Whilst it may have nothing to do with it I have a Thomas Harland born Abt. 20 Sep 1857 in Little Lumley, Co. Durham England who married an Elizabeth Ann Lydia Gibson born 17 Mar 1859 at Sunderland St., Houghton-le-Spring, Co. Durham, England. I haven't investigated their children too far but there may be a link somewhere.

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Charlotte Harland Beardslee”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Chicago, and she looks to be about age 25.

I found Charlotte Beardslee in the 1910 Chicago census, showing age of 46, born England, wife of Franklin Beardslee, 48; and son Harland, age 10. In the 1920 census, Frank and Charlotte Beardslee, and son Harland (age 19) lived in South Pasadena (Los Angeles Co.) CA.

Robert Harland - England to KY and IL - coal miners

I am researching the line of Robert Harland, b 1837. He married Margaret Bell, b. 1833. Both were born in England. Their children were George (born in KY in 1860), Robert (also born in Ky in 1862), Lyda (1870), Thomas O.(Litchfield, Mongomery Co., IL in 1873), Isabella (born 1877). I believe Geo and Thomas were coal miners. Thomas Harland's family moved to Indiana near Fontanet in Vigo County. I believe Robert had the last name of Smith during the Civil War.

I am seeking Robert's father and also Robert's birthplace in England.

There are lots folk seeking HARLANDs on the different Yorkshire mailing lists and you may get a response from someone on them if you were to give a little more detail.

My HARLANDs are from North Yorkshire - Kirby Knowle which is near Thirsk.

James D. Rodman is credited as the source of the information. I am trying to locate James D. Charlotte Cook is in my wife’s line. For sometime now I have been trying to prove or disprove the Captain Cook and Charlotte Cook relationship. So far I have come up empty handed.

The family story is that Charlotte’s father, Joseph Cook Sr., is a first cousin of Capt. Cook.

Joseph Cook Sr. was born in 1788.
Capt. Cook was born in 1728.

That is a 60 year difference in birthdates so I don’t see how they could be first cousins.

Joseph Cook Sr. died Jan 28, 1858 in Pewaukee, WI. and is buried in St. James – Rose Hill Cemetery in Lisbon, Waukesha, WI.

So far I have not been able to determine the parents of Joseph Cook Sr.

Do you have any additional info on the Captain Cook and Charlotte Cook relationship?

I also have the Harland Tree and need to confirm that Gawen Harland and Hannah Baker is Robert Harland’s (1798) parents. My wife is a decendent of William and Esther (Adamson) Harland.

A Catherine Clarence Harland born about 1854 at Steeplebumstead, Essex, appears on the 1881 Census but I cannot find any other reference to her.
She has an uncle called Ernest ALBERT Harland but thats the nearest I can get. E A Harland is my wifes Grandfather.

My husband is descended from Joseph Harland who seems to have arrived in Heworth Colliery, Co. Durham after the 1881 census,married Annie Dryden at Prince Consort Road Methodist Chapel in Gateshead on 25 Jan 1885, had a son (Robert Dryden Harland - my husband's grandfather)on 4 Sep 1886 and died in about 1889. We have tried to trace his previous history, but without success. According to his marriage certificate his father was also called Joseph.
So far as I am aware, my husband has no connection with Cornelious

It STARTS WITH jOHN hARLAND OF lEVISHAM WHO MARRIED 1732 lASTINGHAM. i CAN CONFIRM THAT ROBERT HARLAND married Ruth Oughtred on 29th April 1846 and wm married Esther Adamson, daughter of William Adamson and Charlotte Cooke (relative of Cpt James Cook).
