It is very likely that Thomas was a weaver before he left here. In the early 1820s over 2000 weavers lived in this small town. This was the principal corduroy manufacturing centre in Ireland. However there was a rapid decline by the mid 1820s and there were a huge number of redundant workers depending on charity by the 1830s. During this time there was mass emigration which ties in perfectly with Thomas. I will try to trace him for you but it might take a while! I'll keep you posted.
