My husband's grandmother was Annie Harley who married Alfred Bedford. The family came from Boston and Spalding in Lincolnshire U.K. would be interested to hear from anyone who has come across any of the Lincolnshire Harleys. Annie's father was William Harley who married Harriet and had at least 7 children. The names I have for Annie's brothers and sisters are James, Isaac, Clara, Louisa, William, and Rebecca.

I was told that the Harley family married
into the McKissick family.My grandfather had
Von Willebrand's Pseudo Hemophilia,he died

I am seeking information about an interesting relation. When she was born she was named Marie Antoinette Perrin. At some stage she was adopted by Elizabeth Matilda Perrin and Captain James Jeremiah Davis, and her name changed to Jane Davis.

Jane lived on Flinders Island, Tasmania and Married Charles Harley in 1878. She died in 1905.

I am seeking information on all of the above. James.J.Davis was a Scotsman, and Elizabeth.M.Perrin from Mauritius. I would be grateful for any information you can share.

James Robert Harley, was born in Middlesex around 1831/2. He married Eliza O'Noke from Limmerick and settled in Southampton, Hampshire. In the 1881 census, he was identified as a Mariner (AB), which may account for the fact I cannot find him in all the census's. The 1841 census gives two possible options in Middlesex and in each case, the parents are identified as Irish. There does NOT appear to be an English marriage record for James and Eliza, so it is possible that James returned to his parental roots for an Irish bride. Any assistance in tracing James's parents and their roots will be greatly appreciated.

I have been researching the names on a memorial in Sheffield, England which remembers the men of the Postal Service who fell in the Great War 1914-19

The result of this research is on my website http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk/ in the 'Sheffield' section. There are details relating to George Winchester Harley and his family . in the 1901 census he was a telegraph messenger. His parents were Herbert and Priscilla (Nee Barrowcliffe) Harley. I'd like to know more about his family, brothers, sisters etc. Also if there is any reason for his second name, Winchester.

He was a member of the KOYLI. He is buried in a cemetery which was used by field hospitals. so he may have died of wounds.

Does anyone know anything about the Harley Shoe Company in America, possibly in Ohio?
i am doing some research for my husband's cousin, who is a Harley - the family we know of were from the Birmingham/Wolverhampton area of England going back to William Harley b1819. But a branch of the family apparently went to America and were involved in the Harley Shoe Company, which may later have changed it's name to Smith - the cousin has no idea of names of family involved, or when this emigration took place, but seems to think they went to Ohio. We have no idea where the Smith name comes in - the only Smith we can find married a Harley in 1911 in Birmingham, but I don't know if this was the branch who moved to the states, or if the move was before or after this. I am trying to tracking down the birth place of Elizabeth HARLEY, c1783-1788. She married by license on 11 Dec 1811 at Brecon (Brecknock), Breconshire, WALES to John DAVIES, a Book Keeper, son of David DAVIES. Elizabeth was living without her husband (assume widowed) in Brecknock in the 1841 census. She was described as not being born in Breconshire.

I am researching James Harley b1815 in Ireland, living in Oldbury,England at the time of the 1841 census when his name was recorded as 'Hurley', married Ann b1822 and had nine children. The eldest, Eliza, was born in 1832 so presumably she wasn't Ann's child. I would love to know where in Ireland he came from, if anyone has any information.

What I have is that Euphemina married George Lindsay around 1807 -1816. Her father was David Harley, she was born around 1780. George and Euphemina had a least one child named James Lindsay born around 1824 in Tulliallan Scotland. Euphemina died around 1863 in Tulliallan.

"Edward Harley, a Forfarshire student at Edinburgh University, was on Wednesday found dead in a building at Portobello with his throat cut. "

Rank and organization: Ordinary Seaman, U.S. Navy. Born: 1842, Brooklyn, N.Y. Accredited to: New York. G.O. No.: 45, 31 December 1864. Citation: Harley served on board the U.S. Picket Boat No. 1, in action, 27 October 1864, against the Confederate ram Albemarle, which had resisted repeated attacks by our steamers and had kept a large force of vessels employed in watching her. The picket boat, equipped with a spar torpedo, succeeded in passing the enemy pickets within 20 yards without being discovered and then made for the Albemarle under a full head of steam. Immediately taken under fire by the ram, the small boat plunged on, jumped the log boom which encircled the target and exploded its torpedo under the port bow of the ram. The picket boat was destroyed by enemy fire and almost the entire crew taken prisoner or lost.

Among the passengers on the steamship Oceanic, which reached New York, Wednesday, was Miss C. M. Harley, of Norwalk, Ohio, who went abroad a few weeks ago to bring back the dead body of her brother, Orlando Harley, who died in Liverpool. As Miss Harley stepped form the gangway she was handed a telegram which stated that during her absence, her father had died.

There was an affecting and unusual scene on the crowed pier. Miss Harley, unnerved after the sad sea trip, almost fainted. She burst into tears. Fellow passengers upon discovering the trouble hastened to comfort her. She was put into a carriage and taken to
a hotel. This morning she left for Norwalk."

Connecting Canadian and Irish Harley family

I am researching my ggg grandfather Thomas Harley. He was born in County Clare in 1797. I believe he immigrated to Canada in 1833 from the port of Cork. I am trying to link Thomas to a Harley family that lived in the Clonroad House, Ennis. There was a John who I believe operated the Messers Harley Brewerys. John passed in 1855.

There was also a Mrs. Margaret Harley b: 1734, d: 1834.

John's Children were,

Margaret, she married Michael Greene of Church Street

Osbourne, d: 1861

Maria, married Octavious O'Brien in 1841

Henry, (c1811-1883) married Juliana Murphy, lived in Pembroke Place, Blackrock, Dublin.

Any information that might link my Thomas with this family would be truly appreciated.

This afternoon I found a set of 5 photographs of Dudley Lee Harley, one of which included his mother, taken when Dudley was 10 and 12 months old (circa 1910). The photos are at the Beaver Creek Antiques shop on RT 40 just south of Hagerstown, Maryland. I found from research that Dudley was the son of Dudley S and Lee B Harley and Dudley S was the son of William H. Harley who was born circa 1840 in Baden, Germany and lived in Berkely County, West Virginia as early as 1880.

My family originated from Dawley Magna, Madely Shropshire. Later (1860 onwards) at least 3 of them moved to Northumberland or Co. Durham. The oldest member I've discovered is a Thomas Harley who married a Sarah Baldwin in 1832.

Hi there, I'm looking for James Harley. He was born in Esquesing township Ontario Canada. Born January 18th, 1848 and was the 5th child to Thomas and Margaret (Ellen) Harley. According to his brother John George Harley obituary he was survived by a brother F.J. Harley in Tulsa Oklahoma. James could be his middle name I'm not sure. If anyone has information on James or F.J. I would appreciate it.

This gentleman resided in Barnwell SC and was my Father's uncle. He owned a store and mill. Many people called him "Cappy," because he was a captain and Vet of the Civil War. A street is named for Cappy where he lived before he died, it's called "Harley Street" off Hwy 52 in North Charleston. My Father James Melvin Harley born in Savannah, Ga also had another uncle, Monroe Harley. Any Info or Pictures on Cappy would be good.

Would like to reunite with family for my cost ($11) a 4x6 hardboard photo of a young man in his early 20's, Photographers mark is as follows; Pierson, 610 1/2 Central Park, Hot Springs, Ark. Picture is signed on the back "Truely yours Elmer Harley 10/20/97". Photo has a bend in it through the center, but in otherwise good condition with a very clear image of this young man. A census search locates a 5 year old Elmer Harley, born Arkansas, in the household of Newton and Martha J. Harley on the 1890 Montgomery county, Arkansas census, thus he would be about the right age as photo indicates.
Found and purchased Lahina, Maui, Hawaii, April 2005 in an antique shop.

My GG Grandmother, Mary Harley was left behind, weeping at the quay as she waved goodbye to her older sisters as they sailed off to America. Luckily for me, my GG Grandfather, Richard Docherty was there with a handkerchief and the rest was history. The married at St Columba' s RC Church and their first child was baptised there in 1879. Her father was Charles Harley and her mother was Mary Campbell from Gweedore in Donegal. I would love to find out how her sisters fared.

According to Fauquier County VA Death Register, Patsey Harley (nee Wigfield), wife of David Harley, died in April 1859 at age 86. Other records give the family name as Haley, Healey, and Hailey, and Patsey's given name as Martha. (She was born 16 Oct 1774 to Thomas and Rhoda (Johnson) Wigfield.) Can anyone prove or disprove that the Thomas Harley named as informant in the death register (I assume he was Patsey's son) is the Thomas Harly who was a wheelwright in the Ashby District of Fauquier County in the 1850 Census, and who moved to Frederick County, Maryland during or soon after the Civil War? I'd appreciated any information on Thomas Harley (m. Jane Kirkland, 1830) who was my ggg-grandfather.

I have a William Harley, b. abt 1825 a Gardener from Hartburn, died 1897 in Stockton.
He married Ann Turnbull b. abt 1828 and died 1898 Stockton.
During 1861 they were witnesses at Ann's sisters wedding in Openshaw and I want to determine that they, the Harleys, were living there at that time.

Richard H Harley was killed in the South Pacific during War ll and is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. I am a retired American citizen formerly of Madison County Indiana living in the Philippines. Recently my wife and I visited the Manila American Cemetery and the cold thought of families never being able to travel so far to visit their loved one bothered me. Since then I have taken a few photographs and attempted to unite the photos of the gravesites with the families. So far of the first photos I am pleased to announce there is one thrilled family in Gary, Indiana. Attached is a photograph of the cemetery. Please help me locate the family of Richard H Harley.

Hi: I have Harley ancestors from Courtmacsherry, Ireland. William, John and Mary Ann Harley all came to New Brunswick Canada around 1825. They were born in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Their father was either John or Dennis Harley (Hurley) and their mother was Ann Bidders.

Is there any Harley's out there in Cork still or is anyone researching my family! William Harley was a surveyor, John Harley built ships here in Canada.

I have a Margaret Harley who was my Gt Granmother. Her parents were Joseph Harley & Catherine (possibly Caroline) She had siblings George, Catherine (possibly Caroline), Elizabeth & Joseph. Elizabeth moved to South Wales. Margaret moved to Lancashire. George married a Sarah Jane (Cadman?). In 1871 they all lived in Walsall Rd, Wolverhampton. Margaret's mum had died by 1881.

Ina married Joseph E. Hill Jr. who was born in Clarinda, Page County, Iowa, on June 9, 1888, and died in Hyattsville MD on November 12, 1956. Ina and Joe Hill had a daughter named Edna Frances (or Frances Edna?) Hill, b. 1912.

On the 1920 census, Vesta Harley was living with Joseph and Ina Hill in Washington, D.C.

An obituary was found in a drawer of my husband's uncle in Co. Donegal, Ireland for a James Harley of Seguin, TX.

James A. Harley, a native of Seguin, and for many years a resident of San Antonio, passed away in the P. and S. Hospital there last monday Afternoon, at the age of 58 years.

At the time of his death, he was secretary and executive director of the San Antonio Housing Authority. Harley was born in March, 1884, in Seguin, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Harley (born Ireland, per census records). He was graduated from the U of Texas in 1908. He served as county attorney of Guadalupe county from 1910 to 1913 and was a member of the state senate from 1913 to 1917. During WWI , 1917-1919, he was Adjunct General of TX and held the rank of Brigadier General in the Third Infantry Brigade. He had lately been attorney for the Gulf Sulphur Company.

In the year 1916 he was united in marriage to Miss Nora Holmes, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mr. J. T. Holmes of this city, who, with a daughter, Mrs. A. J. Ridder, Jr. of Houston, and a granddaughter survive. Other survivors are three sisters; Mrs. W. J. Boer(sp?) , Seguin; Mrs. T. Y. Wood, Long Beach, CA; and Mrs. Charles Martin, Christine. A brother, John H. Harley, and a sister, Miss Madge Harley preceeded him in death several years ago.

The obit goes on to say the funeral was held at St. James Catholic Church in Seguin on June 16. There is no year on the obit but it would have been about 1942 according to his age.

I am sure his father JOHN HARLEY, who disapeared from the census records after 1910, was a brother to our GG James Harley who stayed in Ireland. This Harley family lived in Ardachrin, Co. Donegal, Ireland. I would love to share with anyone who might connect with this family.

The Heilegh and Harley Family by John Randolph Witcraft pub. 1914 states that Heindrich Heiligh Sr, came to America in 1745 on the ship Peggy. His wife's name Susanna. They had four children: John, George, Anna Maria and Susanna. George Heiligh m 1st Sophia Omeazetter and 2nd. Anna Margaret Voss Webber ( widow).
