Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, Youngstown, Ohio for Mrs. Irene Harmon, 79, who passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Harmon was born April 30, 1930, in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of Senola McMullen and Cleo W. La’Celleaux.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Theresa Harmon of Las Vegas, Carletta Harmon Jones of Sharon, Pa., and Lyn Curtis Harmon of Canton, Ohio; siblings Norman (Denise) McMullen of Detroit and Gardenia Summerville of Cleveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Shajuan Bush, Brandon Bush, Tori I. Johnson, Dustin R. Hennings, Adelino C. Fontes III, Kelvin B. Jones II, Brandy R. Jones, and Queyanna L. Harmon; four great- grandchildren, Johnny R. Wallace III, JaVaughn M. White, Jayden Bush and LaNiyah Solaana N. Jones; goddaughters Cynthia Jackson and Carol Quinn; a favorite uncle, Alfred Sykes; favorite aunt, Gwendolyn Sykes of Alaska; a favorite cousin, Edith Butler; a favorite sister-in-law, Martha N. Knight of Bartow, Ga.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandmother who reared her, Katie L. Brown; her husband, Lessley C. Harmon, who passed away in 1963; her son, Leon Harmon; stepson Larry B. Harmon; brothers George McMullen and Paul (Dan) Bryant; sister Catherine McMullen; uncle Ben Thomas; cousin Julia Robinson; and longtime companion, Carl Fountain.
Friends may call on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
