Thank you very much for posting this photo! Until now I was unaware of his place of burial.
While the gravestone clearly reads "22" for the regiment, numerous sources - both primary and secondary - record his regiment as the 21st.

John Harmony obituary: 1880, Chambersburg, PA

From the Public Opinion newspaper (Chambersburg, Pennsylvania), 21 Feb 1880 issue, page 3:

DEATH OF AN AGED CITIZEN

The numerous friends and acquaintances of Mr. John Harmony, who for many years resided near New Franklin, this county, will learn, with regret, of his death which occurred on Sunday evening last, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Susan Oyler, on South Main street. For nearly thirty years the deceased suffered from a pulmonary affection, but it was only within a year or two that the malady gave him any trouble, and he continued to grow worse until he peacefully and painlessly expired as above. Mr. H. was a peaceable and quiet citizen, liberal to a fault, and there are many now living who, since he has passed away, lose a valued and steadfast friend. His funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, and the remains were followed to their last resting place-Cedar Grove cemetery-by a large concourse of relatives and acquaintances. Mr. Harmony leaves an aged widow, and a large number of children and grand children to mourn his loss. He was in the 79th year of his age.
John H. Harmony obituary: 1892 Kansas City, MO

From the Kansas City Star newspaper (Kansas City, Missouri), 15 September 1892 issue, page 6:

JOHN H. HARMONY DEAD

A Real Estate Man Who Was Sandbagged Last Winter Found Dead in Bed.

John H. Harmony, who was sandbagged by thugs last spring, died suddenly this morning at his home, 1108 Euclid avenue. He never recovered from the injuries inflicted by his murderous assailants and his death was no doubt a result of the sandbag.
Mr. Harmony was a real estate broker with an office in the Whitney building. Until last spring he was a man of powerful frame and the best of health. One morning he left home for a little town not far from this city transacted some business and, about 7 o'clock that night, he returned to Kansas City, carrying some valuable papers in a small valise. He went to his office in the Whitney building and then started for home. About 10 o'clock a policeman saw him stagger past the corner of Ninth street and Woodland avenue, and, thinking that he was only drunk, directed him toward his home. An hour later his wife heard a noise at the front door and opening it found him there unconscious. He was brought to the light and was hardly recognizable. His derby hat was beaten down over his eyes and his face and clothes were covered with mud. He had a large welt on the side of his head, but the skin was not broken. In the course of a day Harmony regained consciousness so that he noticed movements around him and at the end of a week he was able by signs to recognize his wife and daughter, but he was unable to make complete sentences or to speak connected words. Gradually his speech returned until he was able to make himself understood, but he never fully recovered. When able to talk he said two men struck him in the hallway of the Whitney building and that he walked all the way to his home. He could give no descriptions of the men or tell more of the assault. His papers were stolen and were never found. Of late Mr. Harmony has been able to attend to his business affairs and was in fair health.
This morning he arose about 6 o'clock, as usual, and greeted his wife. While he was dressing she went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. When he failed to answer the breakfast bell an hour later, she went upstairs and found him on the bed, dead. Coroner Langsdale will make an autopsy, and if he finds that death was the result of the sandbag he will probably hold an inquest. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.
At the time of the assault police detectives were detailed to make an investigation, but discovered nothing. The janitor of the Whitney building declared that the assault was not made in that building, and Mr. Harmony wasn't himself positive where he was.
Frederick Harmony obituary: Johnstown, PA 1885

From the Johnstown Tribune newspaper, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, 30 January 1885 issue, page 8, column 2:

Frederick Harmony
The funeral of the late Frederick Harmony took place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Mr. Harmony was born in Franklin County, this State, on the 10th of October, 1810. He was a farmer and was prominent among the agriculturists of his section until ten years ago, when he moved to Missouri. There his wife died about a year since. Last fall he came East to see his relatives, and while visiting at the residence of Mr. Homer McGarvey, in this place, was prostrated with a complication of disorders under which he steadily sank until death ended his sufferings on Saturday.
Mr. Harmony was the father of ten children, seven of whom survive, as follows: Mary, wife of Homer McGarvey, Johnstown; Samantha, wife of Pearson Hershey, Johnstown; Martha, wife of Johnson Wagoner, Johnstown; Mrs. Frank Orr, Altoona; John, Missouri; Helen, wife of S. B. Shaffer, Missouri; Margaret, wife of John Palmer, Iowa; Frank of Somerset.
Mr. Harmony was a member of the Methodist Church for forty years.

[Notes: Even though the obituary states that seven children survive, it lists eight. I believe that the one listed as "Helen" should really be "Ellen" and that her husband's surname should be "Shaver" rather than "Shaffer". Frank is listed as a surviving son, but he actually died in 1878 probably in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Another son, Frederick, survived his father but is not listed.]
Some Basic Harmoie/Harmony Notes

I am actually a researcher for another line, but I have put together some background data on the Harmonie/Harmony family in the USA. Maybe this will help someone else.

Johannes Harmonie (Abt 1725 - 1801) came to America aboard the ship "Leslbie" ... sailed from Rotterdam on Oct 17, 1749. His wife (whose name I don't have was, like him, of Palatine stock)

He had 5 sons, but I have only authenticated 4 names at present (Adam, John, William, and Daniel)

Adam was born abt 1764 in Franklin Co, PA, and died abt 1859 in Barron Co, Wisconsin.

Adam served in the American Army during the Revolutionary War (8th Battalion, 3rd Company (Home Guard) of Pittsburg, PA.

Adam married Barbara Heinicke, and according to the 1790 census for PA had seven children. He also appears on the taxtables for Guilford Township, Franklin Co 1786.

I have only two children for sure, Samuel and William.

Samuel (1789 - 1850) married Leah Schumacher, and had 4 children.
I am the great great granddaughter of a Sarah Frin(a?)frock who was married to Charles W. Painter (died 1901). Have no further information, except that his son, Charles F (b. 1876 d.1926), married Mary Bertha Zinkand and lived in Schuykill Cty, PA. You are the first person I have even found with the name. The children of Charles F and Mary were raised catholic. Oh, Charles W. and Sarah Frinfrock had four children (John, Charles, Frances, and Alice -in birth order)

Hi, I am looking for ancesters of my gggrandmother: Sarah Harmony Mertz. What I do know about Sarah is she was born December 23, 1803 in PN. She married John Mertz prior to 1830 in PN. All her children were born in Pn and appartently she and John moved to Ohio after 1847. Sarah died August 11, 1875 in St John's Union, Auglaize Co., Oh and is buried in St John's Cemetary. Hypothesis is Sarah's family may have been from Middleburg, Union Co., PN as this is where John Mertz was born. Can use ay help or suggestions as to who were Sarah's parents and where they were from. Can contact me at avilionwhippets@webtv.net Thank you, Janet Etheredge

J. H. HARMONY - Kansas City, MO - 1891

"The Kansas City Times) (Missouri) Monday, December 14, 1891

STILL IN DELIRIUM

J. H. HARMONY Vainly Tries to Talk of His Assailants.

At his home, 1116 Michigan avenue, J. H. HARMONY is still struggling in delirium, striving to tell who are the men who waylaid and sandbagged him on Thursday night.

Mr. HARMONY's condition yesterday showed a trifling improvement. He recognized friends and answered trivial questions intelligibly, but whenever questioned about the men who assaulted him, his excitement would carry him back into delirium.

"They--they--" the wounded man would gasp, then fall back, muttering senseless words.

Members of the family asked him if Negroes assaulted him.

"No, no," declared the wounded man.

"Did you know them?"

"Yes, yes!"

Detectives who are working on the case think that when HARMONY is able to talk he will tell startling things. It is believed that he was struck by men who knew him well, who were aware of his trip to Cameron supposably with a large sum of money intended to be used in the purchase of the Cameron Vindicator.

HARMONY's physicians urge that the man be not excited by questions until he recovers some measure of strength. His condition is most serious.

(I have no connection with this family but let me know if you do.)
neirbo

Hello Megan, Thank-you for answering my mail so quickly. I do not know if our relatives are connected but I will continue the search. I found out about the Ohio Genealogy Society. I will be collecting everything I can get my hands on. First I will be sending for the birth cert. of Ward and Grace Harmony. Maybe the parents of Grace(Frinfrock) Harmony will lead us to useful information.I was told Grace came from Holland but I think the Dutch connection was farther back. Maybe you would want to check out the Pa. Genealogy Society. I would think there is one. Sincerely, Bonnie Anderson
