Classification: Query
Surnames: Harms, Jurgens, Renken
I am trying to find information on my grandmother's ancestors. Here is the information she had in the family Bible:
Johann Hinrichs Harms, b. 6 Nov. 1860 in Westersander, Germany; d. 25 May 1956 in Hastings, Nebraska
His wife was Motje Gerdes Jurgens, b. 13 Aug. 1862 in Ihlowerfehn, Ostfriesland, Germany; d. 20 Dec. 1941 in Glenvil, Nebraska
Here is the mysterious part. Johann Harms's father's last name was originally Berends, but under Napoleon's regime, their last name was changed to Harms. This has made it hard for me to trace Johann's grandparents. Here is what I have on the parents:
Berend Berends (later Harms), b. 10 Sept. 1807 in Ihlowerhorn, Ostfriesland, Germany; d. 15 March 1867 in Westersanderfeld, Germany.
His wife was Gesche Renken, b. 8 Dec. 1822 in Westersander, Germany; d. 3 Feb. 1893 in Westersander.
Does anyone have any information on the parents for Berend Berends?
Thanks!
