Joan Wening Smith Harnett

Looking for information On Joan Wening, she came from Germany, married a Smith, and than she married my uncle Vaughan Harnett, they lived in New York City, NY both are deceaced now. She had a son name Edward not sure if his last name is Smith or Harnett who also lived in NY, NY. Any information would be helpful.

Hi, the entry of a Harnett living at Three Rivers, NB, Canada interests me. I wonder where Three Rivers is. I could not get to it on Google. I'll keep trying. My great grandmother was Anne Harnett. She is buried in Rexton, Kent County, NB, Canada. I have not found her exact birth date or where she was born. She may have come from England. I know of course that she married my great grandfather, Peter Randolph Beattie, Sr. and had four sons with him including my grandfather. I know she was married to a Graham before she married my great grandfather. With the Graham she had three children, two girls and a boy. I'm always interested in seeing Harnett names and finding as much information about those in NB as possible. Thanks. Don Beattie in Winthrop, ME.

I did a check at Ancestry.com and only found 1 entry for Disraeli Harnett - no hits on any of the other variations on his name.

Found him in the 1910 Maine Census, in Penobscot, Mattawamkeag. You may already have this info - if not, let me know and I will be glad to send the info from this census record.

Looking for any information on my Grandfather Disraeli Harnett, I have also seen it as Dwell Harnett or D Israeli Harnett, he was born in Three Rivers, New Brunswick, Canada in April or 1868, was married to Amy Wyman of Chester, Maine, they lived in Matawamkeag, Maine and had several children, Stanley , William, Vaughan, Lee, Norman, Viola, Dorothy, Angie.

Any help would be appreciated, I have no info on where he died or dates

I don't know where yours have gone...... but I'm very interested in any from St Sepulchre, Newgate, as I believe my ancestor Thomas ARNOTT was baptised there in 1781 to William & Mary. Had lots of siblings. Mostly appear without the "H" in that time frame... but "down-under" (where literacy was an even worse problem than UK) the two spellings are completely interchangeable - with HARNETT as well.

(Most "searches" do NOT connect the two.. so drop the "haitch" when you're looking for yours.... if you haven't been doing so.... I always have to check both variants!)

Thomas was a convict transported to Tasmania, and NO records of him there record his parent's names...... so I'm stuck. My only hope is to track London families and hope that someone, somewhere has a nice little piece of family history, passed down through the generations about gt.gt. uncle Thomas who was sent to the Colonies!!!!!!!!!

Just stumbled upon this message when searching the net for Harnett. I am from the Harnett family line who came to America in the 1600's. The name was changed to Harned in America. My family line has been in Canada since the 1700's since some Harneds were United Empire Loyalists and came to Canada at that time. I am tracing the Harnett line and have got back as far as the Harnetts in Kent County in England. I am trying to research further back than 1600's but have not been able to trace further back yet. If you know any information about the Harnetts in Kent County please let me know. Thank you.

I just recently noticed your reply to my daughter’s 2002 query. Kathleen asked me to reply. We have still not been able to locate O’Callaghan McSweeny or Honoria Harnett back in Ireland. Most of our information on the McSweeny and Harnett lines came from my husband’s uncle, Roger McSweeny. I believe quite a bit of his information came from a member of your McLoughlin family. We too are looking for more information on Honoria. Their daughter Mary Francis McSweeney married John McLoughlin. They are my ggrandparents. Their son, Maurice, rumored to be named for Honoria's brother, married Elizabeth nee Kearney in 1905 in Montreal. My father, also Maurice, was born in 1907 in Brooklyn, NY. He was a lawyer in NY and died in 1975. Would be happy to hear if you have anything further. We just joined ancestry.com and are trying to put the pieces together. Many thanks for whatever you can provide. Specifically, how does one pursue the reference number in ()?

Parents of Henry Harnott were William Harnott and Ann Hodgson who married at St George's Hanover Square in London on Nov 2nd 1895. They then returned to High Wycombe where William lived.

I am trying to link these four families together, but I have no proof, just some coincidences, that they inter-relate at all. All have both spellings in differing Tasmanian records, but I've listed them as they were most commonly known.

Arthur Ryder HARNETT b. ca 1818 - England
draper, arrived free Van Diemen's Land in 1837
son of William Thomas HARNETT Esq. of Peckham Vale, Peckham (as at 1842)

Lydia HARNETT/ARNOTT (even occurences of spelling!!!) b. ca 1824 - unknown birthplace (her d/cert says Hobart, but it's very unlikely, and has not been found registered there) arrived free Van Diemen's Land ca 1839
daughter of William HARNETT a chairmaker

Richard ARNOTT b. ca 1803 London (a native of St Lukes, at some point) - had a wife Sarah, when convicted and transported to VDL in 1827.
flute key maker, and later a chairmaker

Thomas ARNOTT b. ca 1781 London (possibly baptised at St Sepulchre, the son of William & Mary)
convicted 1800, transported to Bass Straight 1803, arrived Hobart Town 1804
watchmaker, seafarer, stockman, chairmaker

The ancestral trail on all of these is "cold".

Our Harnett's are from Duagh. Timothy Harnett married Mary Barry (dau. of Garett Barry). They had a son Timothy I am seeking to find relative on. I believe he stayed in the Duagh area at least until 1922 at the time of his mother's death.

My grandfather was from Florenceville, NB Canada he was born around 1866, One of his sons my uncle was William Harnett, they grew up in Mattawamkeag, Maine, his mothers name was Amy Wyman from Chester, Maine, I am not sure if she and Disraeli were divorced for if he died but she remarried to Harry Haigh and lived in Bowdoin. I would be real interested if this is the same William you are hunting for.

Since my last post I have found out a couple more facts about my grandfather Disraeli Harnett, he was born in Canada in 1866, don't know where in Canada, I know he was a farmer,
and that his kids went to live with people all over Maine. He married Amy Wyman and lived in Mattawamkeag, Maine,
Amy remarried to Harry Haigh and lived in Bowdoin, Maine.

Hi. My g-g-greats come from the Kerry/Cork/Limerick area.
My great grandfather was Thomas Broderick Hartnett, born 1830 in Cnty Limerick. His parents were Patrick M Hartnett and Anastasia Broderick.
His siblings are as follows:
Maurice 06/04/1836, Patrick 02/25/1838 Ggrandfather of Jerry Hartnett (Jerry has posted information on this website), Thomas 06/09/1839, Judith 04/15/1841, Hanora 01/30/1845 (Are you searching for this Hanora?), Patrick 01/20/1848, Edmond 02/20/1850.

thank you...I received your email to which I will respond separately.
My gggrandfather, John McLoughlin married Mary Francis McSweeny (b.1836), a daughter of Honoria Harnett (b. 1815) and O'Callaghan McSweeny. Appears that they would have been perhaps first cousins to your ancestors. Honoria had an older brother named Maurice who apparently was the namesake for my grandfather and father.

I am new to this process and will need to learn how to access the reference numbers noted in these message board. Do you have any guidance on how to learn the process?

Hi, I am trying to trace my mothers maternal family. My Grandmothers name was Mary HARNETT b. 10/4/1918 in Kilcora , Limerick. d.Aug 1948 in Camberwell London. We have her birth cert and on it her father is listed as Patrick HARNETT (possibly HARTNETT)living in Kilcora as a Police Pensioner. Her mother is Nano HARNETT (HARTNETT), formerly Nolan.
Thats about all we know. There does seem to be some confusion between HARTNETT and HARNETT, but thats to be expected. we have sent off for a search on the police records. 2 have come back, one of which looks promissing but needs more investigation.

The children listed in the census of 190l of William Roach and Margaret Harnett I found were Joseph, b1888,Mary Albena,b 1893. Leonard and Mary Athena b1895, and Ellen,b 1899. I am at a wall as to where William came from. I found a William born June 3,187l in Assumption Parish, Grand Falls but don't know if he is my G grandfather.My grandfather is Leonard. Who are Jim,Tom and John?

YES,Grampa Leonard is the second youngest along with twin Beanie and your Grampa is the second oldest.. Was their grandfather Anthony b1827 married to Mary O'Mara and was he son of Moses? Incorrectly I thought their grandfather was a William married to an Ellen Raleigh...Do you know anything about Moses?

Well, if you think there is any chance that your Harnetts wandered through Chicago before 1900, you are welcome to go through my history and index. I have tried to include Hartnetts Harnetts and Harneds in my research since it seems to get inconsistent as you go back.

Also, I have a Daniel and Nora in my line. My Daniel died in Chicago in 1866 and Nora died in 1878. If anything sounds interesting, let me know, I'm more than willing to share.

Not sure if you were referring to me, but Patrick 02/25/1838 is not my Ggrandfather.

My GGgrandfather is John D. Hartnett born Dec 10, 1828, in the Newcastle West area of County Limerick. It is believed his parents were Daniel and Honorah Hartnett. They show up in the Town of Westville, Franklin County, New York, in the 1850 U.S. Census as Harney.

HARNETTs of County Limerick

I'm looking for data on my paternal grandparents' ancestors.

My father came to the US in the 1950's and he, my mom and my siblings all live in the US. So I have very limited access to any Ireland geneology resources until I can make a trip over to Ireland to do some investigation in person.

I'm hoping someone on this bulletin board will have some (any) pointers to help me along.

My grandfather: Maurice Harnett (mossie, mossy), born circa 1884 in or around Limerick, died 1963.

My grandmother: Catherine Relihan, born circa 1889, died 1967.

They lived (and died) in or around Adare in Co Limerick, and had (at least) 8 kids, including my dad (names: Nora, Mary, Daniel, Catherine, Eileen, Maurice, Tom & John)

I have names and data on my aunts/uncles/cousins, but I can't find any data farther back on either of my paternal grandparents (Maurice Harnett's or Catherine (Relihan) Harnett's) parents/ancestors.

I know from family information that my grandfather Maurice Harnett's parents were:

Daniel Harnett
Nora Dore (?)

But that's about it.
