Hi,

Thanks for repyling!

I checked the autograph book, the entry for Cousin Mabel Harney is dated Apr 18, 1888, so that would be before your grandmothers time. However, if you are able to connect with any other Harneys in the area, I would be glad to check the book for you.

Terri

It is very likely that William Harney (Harney Chart ILWCF.EAS, USA) is the brother of Edmund Harney of Corderry (Harney Chart TIEMH.IRE). However records are scarse so it is hard to confirm this. [Charts for both families are found on my Harney web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~harney2/
Linda Harney MacDonald

Ellen Harney born Tipperary Ireland 1839

Would there be anybody out there that could tie into this family. Ellen Harney born abt 1839 in Tipperary marries James Hall (b abt 1828) who was from Killenaule, Tipperary Ireland. I am not sure of the marriage date and whether they were married in Ireland or England. They show up in the 1881 census at 48 Wellfield Rd., Preston Lancashire England. Included in the census are their eldest son John Hall who is my geat grandfather. The census taker has the children mixed up as Maggie 2 is my grandmother and the child of John Hall and Fanny Hall (Hogan) along with John Hall 1.
In 1891 this combined family is living at 42 Prince Ed Lane, West Derby, Liverpool. In 1901 Ellen is living at 35 Foley St. Kirkdale with her 2 sons Thomas Hall 25 and James Hall 23. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
Mike Haskins.
Canada.

Re: Daniel Harney

This reply is to the inquiry about Daniel Harney with a daughter Eva May. (The subject line read Margaret Harney which is confusing).

The 1880 Federal Census includes Daniel Harney, w, m, age 38, farmer, born Ireland. His wife Charlotte, 32, b. IL; and children Evangeline, 11, dau; Robert E, 01, son, and Daniel's brother Thomas Harney, age 42. Also living with them is John Harney, 15, the son of Daniel's older brother Patrick.

From other records it has been determined that Evangeline, aka Eva May was born 15 Apr 1869, and she later married John E. Claypool.

Daniel's wife was Charlotte (Hallowell) Bruner. They were married in 1868 (her 2nd).

Daniel was christened 4 May 1842 at St. Mary's RC church, Clogheen RC parish (Shanrahan Civil Parish) in County Tipperary Ireland. He was the son of Patrick Harney, farmer and Bridget (Kenneally), who were the immigrant ancestors on this line.

If you wish to contact me regarding this line, please refer to my chart ILPBK.EAS (it will save me lots of time).

Hope this helps with your search.
Linda
Ellen Harney was christened on 14 Dec 1848 in Carrick-on-Suir parish, (civil parish of Mothel & Rathgormuck) in the Portlaw/Ballyduff area of County Waterford. She was the daughter of Thomas Harney, a thatcher, and Johanna Connolly, who later immigrated with their family to Worcester, MA. Sponsors at the baptism were John Connolly and Mary Halpin.

Thomas Harney was the son of John Harney born circa 1798 in County Waterford. He married Ellen Power on 31 Jan 1819 in the Portlaw/Ballyduff area.

I show that Ellen married John Power on 2 Aug 1872 in Worcester. Then she later a Mr. Dolan. Is this right?

My chart reference is WOJEP.MAS. Refer to my Harney web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.com/~harney2/

I don't show the year they immigrated, but do know that the youngest son of Thomas & Johanna was born in Ireland in 1869, so it was after that time. Some of their children are listed on the 1880 MA Census. Hope this helps.

Are you refering to Mary Ann "Molly" Harney, born 1857?
She is the daughter of Richard Harney who was christened on 27 Jan 1811, Tipperary, Ireland, and went to Australia in 1852. Mary Ann "Molly" is a child of his second wife, Mary Ann King, whom he married in 1850.

I have more information on Richard if you are interested.
Please email me at harneyworld@netscape.net

Linda
It appears your Mary is Mary Catherine Harney, born 13 July 1862, Aust., the daughter of Richard Harney (b.c.1837 Ire) and Eliza Kennedy. Richard and Eliza were married 4 July 1859. Richard died in 1863, when Mary Catherine was still a baby, and Eliza then married T.L.N. Fitzgerald. Mary Catherine had an older brother named Richard John Harney (b.4 Dec 1860, d. 17 Oct 1941, Qld).

Richard Sr. was the son of Patrick Harney (chr. 26 Nov 1805 Ireland). He died 1 Apr 1884 and left a will. His wife may have been Maryanne Jones (not confirmed). His will mentioned Mary "Polly" Harney, the daughter of his cousin John Harney "who died in London". I don't have anything on him.

Hope this helps.
Linda
Mary A. Tierney
Records show she married Edward C. Harney on 29 Jan 1899 in Woburn. He was 23 and she was 33 (this may be an error on the record). His parents Thomas Harney & Margaret Butler. Her parents John Tierney & Mary Kelley. As you noted, her husband died in 1902.

Mary then married Frank P. Tierney (a relation??). They married on 25 June 1905. The record shows this was his first marriage, age 24, and her 2nd marriage, age 29 (younger than the earlier record). Frank's parents were Thomas Tierney & Delia Handley. The marriage was recorded in both Woburn and Pepperell.

I don't have anything more on Mary, as I limit my research to the Harney surname. Hope this helps.

Linda

Yes, I have found references to Richard Harney and also to Nicholas Harney, Francis Harney and Charles Harney who were all living in Maryland at the time of Timothy's birth. It is because there were several Harneys in the area that we can not figure out the parentage of Timothy.

See my web site for more information on the early Harneys:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~harney2/america.htm

Linda

Thanks Jean.
Interesting that the marriage bond date and the marriage date given in his military records are so far off. I'll make a note of this in my "bio".

Did you receive an email from DR Varner about Sarah Catherine Harney and Francis Marion Varner? I replied to it and tried to send you a copy but your email was returned as not deliverable. Sarah is a cousin of Wm Granville's. I have more info on her if you will email me at harneyworld@netscape.net.

No need to go to Harrison county for the marriage record of William Granville Harney and Seralda Fryman. I found it as follows: #4883, married by Joseph Sipe on 6 Feb 1856. What I have not confirmed is the birth and death dates of Seralda as given in George H. Harney's research.

John Roland Harney
You asked if I found him on the 1860 Census. Yes.
Harrison County, p.629.
John R Harney, 21, farmer, b. KY
Elmira, 25, housekeeper.

She was also called Myra and was also a Harney cousin, the daughter of Thomas Harney and Anna Fryman. (My Chart 5D)
The Ancestors of Teena Harney

The Ancestors of Teena Harney

My Mother (Teresa 'Teena' Maria Harney)was born in Ballyneale, Garrangibbon (Civil Parish), Carrick-on-Suir (Poor Law Union), Tipperary on 15 August 1918. She migrated to Australia abt. the age of 14 years (i.e. c. 1932) with the Bains family (also Irish)and lived initially in Queensland. Teena used to holiday with the Baines family in Sydney (they owned the Dolphin Hotel in South Sydney) and whilst there met my father. In 1949 Teena married James 'Jim' Michael Armstrong in Sydney, Australia. They had three children (all living) namely, Josephine Anne (born 1949), James 'Jim' Andrew (born 24 Feb. 1950) and Christine Mary (born 03 Jan. 1956). Teena died in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia in 1983.
Teena's parents were Daniel Harney (birth and death dates unknown)and mother Catherine 'Kate' Hogan (birth and death dates unknown). My grandparents were farmers in Ballyneale and my uncle Michael Harney farmed there until his recent death.

Does anyone have information about my grandparents and their ancestors that you could share with me?

Thank you,

Jim Armstrong (jimaarmstrong@hotmail.com)
Harney/Hartnett Upper NY 1850 Census

Recently discovered that the first Hartnetts to Chicago in the early 1850s were from the Town of Westville, County of Franklin, New York. An 1850 Westville, Franklin, NY Census shows my Hartnetts listed as HARNEY. Daniel Harney 45, Honorah 40, John 21 (my GGgrandfather), Catherine 14, Patrick 11, Margaret 9, Honorah 8, Daniel 5, and Owen 3. They showed up again 10 years older in the 1860 Chicago, IL Census as Hartnet, except for John Hartnett, then married to Mary or Maria Fox. I also noted a Patrick Harney in the 1830 NY Census near Malone or Chateaugay. Supposedly Daniel age 46 came over on the Effingham in Feb. 1848 from Cork. John Hartnell(sp?) age 20 came over on the Orphan from Liverpool on 3 Apr 1848. I must give credit to Bill Hartnett in Golden Valley, AZ for making this connection for me.

If this is possibly a connection for you or if you have any further information or wish to discuss, please post or contact me.
