Hi there,
I havent been working on this for awhile again. I had a baby in Sept 07 and he has been keeping me very busy. I do not think I was able to solidly confirm Jacob's Parents either but I have heard so different stories. One states that the older children had a different mother, but that Susannah was the younger childrens mother. Not sure what to believe, I need to start working on it again. I have been getting so many requests for info, I really need to get caught back up. I will go through my papers and see what I have. I did find this link on Peter Noel and Elizabeth Harr. It is an Interesting read. http://www.mcn.org/2/NOEL/PeterNoel-Ligonier.htm

I will let you know if I find anything solid.

Jolene, haven't contacted you in a while - I have been working on this again.
I still have been unable to confirm that Jacob Harr's parents were definitely Frederick Harr and Susannah Shockey. There was also a John Harr - born about the same time as Frederick in Westmoreland. Have you been able to confirm Jacobs parents - or Jacobs grandparents? There is also conflicting info about Elizabeth Harr (m. Peter Noel). Was she definitely Jacob's sister?

Tim, I am also a Harr. I am a descendant of Jacob Harr/Elizabeth Stahl. There seems to be conflicting information about the family beyond Jacob. Most people place Elizabeth (m. Peter Noel) as the sister of Jacob. Both Jacob and Elizabeth as the children of Frederick Harr and Susannah Shockey. There is also information that Elizabeth and Jacob were not brother and sister - but perhaps cousins. I have not been able to confirm my ancestor Jacob's parentage with any certainty. There was also a John Harr - born about the same time as Frederick. They may have been brothers?? Can anyone confirm the parentage of either Jacob or Elizabeth? My father was always told there was Indian in our family - but I have not been able to confirm this either.

Michael Horr was born about 1810 in Ireland, his wife , Ellen, died prior to 1870. Michael Horr, born about 1840 inIreland was married to Margaret Corbett, born 1853 in Rossie, St Lawrence County and died 15 fEB 1898 in Amsterdam in St Mary's cemetary. Her parents were Timothy Corbett, born abt. 1808 in Ireland and died on Dec 18. The year is hard to read off his headstone. It is either 1863 or 1868. He is born in St Patrick's Cemetary in Rossie. His wife was Mary unknown. She was born about 1810 in Ireland. She is listed in the 1880 census with her daughter and I find no record of her after that. I believe in 1880 she was in Jefferson County. I have more but will need to look it up. This is all I remember of the top of my head. I have death certificates and obituary accounts on some of these people and census accounts from 1860, 1870 1880 and possibly earlier.

Moira

Yes I believe that you did talk with my brother Walter. That is what got me started. My Grandfather, Martin's census report in 1900 when he was 17 states that his mother's birthplace was New York. That would have been Margaret Corbett. Do you know what year Michael Sr was born in? Michael Jr apparently was born in 1940 in Ireland. Apparently all of his siblings are deceased and also all of my father's siblings are deceased.Tom Richard is also searching for information.
Joan

HARR, HARRY R. - Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient WW II

HARR, HARRY R.

Rank and organization: Corporal, U.S. Army, Company D, 124th Infantry, 31st Infantry Division. Place and date: Near Maglamin, Mindanao, Philippine Islands, 5 June 1945. Entered service at: East Freedom, Pa. Birth: Pine Croft, Pa. G.O. No.: 28, 28 March 1946. Citation: He displayed conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity. In a fierce counterattack, the Japanese closed in on his machinegun emplacement, hurling hand grenades, 1 of which exploded under the gun, putting it out of action and wounding 2 of the crew. While the remaining gunners were desperately attempting to repair their weapon another grenade landed squarely in the emplacement. Quickly realizing he could not safely throw the unexploded missile from the crowded position, Cpl. Harr unhesitatingly covered it with his body to smother the blast. His supremely courageous act, which cost him his life, saved 4 of his comrades and enabled them to continue their mission.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Altoona, Pennsylvania
Cemetery: Alto-Reste Park

Born: 1921 at Pine Croft, PA

Died: 1945 Killed in Action -- Awarded Posthumously.

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_go/harr_...

Note: This is not my ancestry.
Christian was living in Ligionier at the time of his death. I have recently found his wife's name was Madelene ( same as his daughter). I found him in the 1790 census listed as " Crisle Hear", in Donegal, Westmoreland County. There is also a Jacob Hear and John Hear in Donegal.
There is also a Conrod Heer living in Mt Pleasant in 1790.
Michael Harr's father was also Michael. I have not found any ino about this Michael's wife and believe she may have died in Ireland. The senior Michael may have died in Jefferson County before the family moved to Amsterdam. Jackman's parents and siblings. Found a relative to a step sister to Josephine in Oregon, but I can't say that I have found anything further on Jacob's family. -the little work I have done has been on some other lines.

My name is Michael Herr. I am searching for information on the family of Michael and Margaret Herr. They originated in Ireland and settled in Douro Township, Ontario, Canada in 1832. They disappeared from this area in the 1860-70 period.
Margerets maiden name could have been Kenedy or Condon. A similar family appears on the 1870 U.S. census , located at Atchison, Kansas. Would appreciate any information relating to this family. It appears that the same family moved to Sherman Washington Kansas for the 1880 census. If this is the Michael Herr from my family, I have a family tree of the Canadain side of the family.

Would you have any info you would be willing to share about the Harrs and canada?
My mothers greatgrandfather was Michael Harr. We recently attended the 100th celeb. of St Michaels in Kimeo. It was great but so many people, the only connection was with Fr G Harr and his family. I was agood day and esp for my mom. I have an aunt and uncle still living in Marysille Ks and my mom and siblings are in Wichita. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks Mary Wilken

At Ft. Carson, Colorado, the streets are named for persons who were awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor. One such street is named for Harry R. Harr. He was killed on 05Jun1945 in Maglamin, Mindanao, Phillipine Islands, Pacafic. He was buried at sea. He was born in Penn.
My intrest in the Harr family results from my Grandmother, Hariette E. Harr, daughter of George and Marthy Harr. Any info on this link would be appreciated. Hariette (Hattie) born in Illinois, 03Jan1875, and was married to my grandfather, Thomas Conner Lutz.

Gene
