I am new to this family History stuff, I believe I am related through this line as well, through Caloway Calvin Harrelson. My Great Grandfather was a Lee Thomas Harrelson born June 25, 1895 in AR (I think, but it could have been Tenn.) About everything I have gotten was from my mother...she continued to do my family history for me and my brother even though her and my father divorced. I am grateful for all her work. She is stumped on the Whitefeather/Longhunter bit, with no proof.

I am having a hard time finding much about my side of the Harrelson family.I found out my grandfather's parents names were John and Callie Harrelson. I found that out from my grandparents marriage license from New Hanover County, in 1903. I can not find out any thing about Callie, or the family back. I do know they were in N.C. It does appear they moved around alot. I know James E, had alot of brothers and sisters.My Dad James E Harrelson was born in Tabor City in 1910. I think my grandad had a brother Dewey. He Had a close {cousin?} Edward Bills.The families moved to Fla by 1920's.

Hi. I don't know if you're still lokking for answers to this thread, but Levi is my direct great, great grandfather. Joseph is my great-grandfather who had Harley Feldman Harrelson(you have him listed as Felderman, my grandfather, who then had Franklin, my father.

Joseph was married twice. I'm not sure of his first wife's name, but they did have children in that marriage, so there were half brothers and half sisters involved.

Joseph's second wife was Mary Isabel Carriker (my great grandmother and harley Feldman's mother). She went by "Belle." Her family originates from Cabarrus County, near the Gold Hill/Misenheimer area, I believe. We have always suspected that Joseph met her in Cabarrus County while there to work at the Gold Hill Mine.

My grandfather Harley Feldman, went by Feldman. His nickname was Felto and he used it often. That's probably where the confusion over "Felderman" began.

Felto was a gifted musician. He played "old time" music(guitar, bajo, mandolin, etc.) with a band and toured the state, playing at church dances and the like. They even played on the radio and were broadcasted. I don't know the name of the band, however, but I think they were very popular during their time.

He grew up in Hillsborough, NC near the Eno River. Joseph owned land there for a long time before selling it and moving to Guilford County, where the kids got jobs at White Oak Mill. (I'm sorry I don't have more specific dates for you.)

I'd be glad to help you with more information, if you're still interested. My sister is more informed than I am, and would have access to specific dates, correct sibling names, info abuot Joseph's first wife and the children from that marriage, etc. Just let me know.

-Jennifer Harrelson

Re: GIDDEON HARRELSON (b:1745) Family Group Sheet

There is some disagreement about the date that Elizabeth Harrelson died. The widely repeated 1808 is at odds with her father William Meadows' (Meaders) will of March 4, 1814 in which he names her: "… I give and bequeath to my loving wife Ann Meaders the plantation on which I now live with all my household & kitchen furniture with all my live Stock I may have at my decease as long as she shall live. To my son Thomas Meaders all the woodland in the fork of the branch to him and his heirs forever. To my son John Meaders one half of the remainder of my tract of land including the house in which I now live -- but to permit my Daughter Peggy Hindman to live in the house so long as she shall choose so to do the rest of my and I give and devise to my Grandson John Meaders being the lower part of my land to him and his heirs forever---to my Grandson William Hindman one bay colt & one feather bed and furniture. The rest of my personal property to be sold by the direction of my Executors and equally divided be my daughters & two sons viz. Elizabeth Harralson, Jane Smith, Peggy Hindman, Dorcas Vice, Jesse Meaders, James Meaders, Nancy Moore. Lastly I do here-by nominate constitute and appoint my son John Meadors whole & sole Executor of this my last will and testament…." His will is in the Spartanburg County Will Book B, pp 22-24; a transcription can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~scsparta/williammeaderswill.htm. Might there have been another Elizabeth Harrelson who died in 1808?

There are also two possible birthdates for Elizabeth Meadows Harrelson's daughter Elizabeth: 1784 and 1796, but without documentation as to primary source, it's difficult to choose between them. Perhaps the later date is preferred, since her husband William Varner was born about 1791, and it would have been unusual for Elizabeth to have married a much younger man.

Finally, there are two dates reported for the marriage of Nathaniel and Frances Vise, who would have been first cousins if Elizabeth Meadows Harrelson and Dorcas Meadows Vise were indeed sisters. The later date of October 7, 1829 would seem to be in error if it's true that Mary Dorcas Harrelson was born May 6, 1827. In that case the earlier marriage date of 1826 (in Spartanburg, SC) is the correct one. Again, I've obtained both dates from secondary sources, and if someone has a primary source, that would resolve the issue.
Their children were:

*Mint & Corinna (twins, born about 1878)
*Duke, born 1880
*Bead (or Beady), born 1883
*Benjamin, born 1885
*James O., born 1886
*Darlia, born 1888

My aunt said that there were 6 children, so possibly James died early (?) and Viney is a nickname for Darlia (?).

According to my aunt, Duke married Lucy Powell and they had 2 childrenL Martha and Willie.

Ben did not marry.

Bead married Burl Yow.

Mint married Lemuel Presnell and had no children but raised Martha and Willie.

Corinna married Swanson Britt, but died in childbirth and was buried with the baby, no other children.

Viney married Calvin Kellam and they lived in Summerfield, NC.

Also, Isabel Carriker, Joe's 2nd wife, had at least two children out of wedlock prior to her marriage to Joe, Oscar and Ed. My grandfather said that his father was Hagen Wyrick. But my aunt also said that she her first daughter, Lula, was not fathered by Joe either. Lula's father was a Davis.

will post again after i hear from my aunt.
Tony, how are you? you and i have corresponded by email before. Jennifer is my youngest sister. I believe you live in Asheboro, correct?

Anyway, here is what i have on Joe Harrelson's first wife and first family. His first wife was a Thompson. i don't have her first name in my notes, but i think my aunt knows so i'll ask her. Here are his children by his first wife. I thought this was the birth order but i'm not sure:

* Mint (Mint & Coraner were twins)
* Coraner (not sure of spelling, was a girl)
* Duke (i think his real name was James, "Duke" was a nickname)
* Ben (never married)
* Bead (this would be your great grandmother)
* Vinie (pronounced with a long "i" like vine)

his second family with Isabel Carriker:

* Lula
* Linnie
* William Troy (died at 3 yrs old, buried at White Oak cemetery in Gboro with Joe)
* Florence
* Pearl
* Feldman (our grandfather)

some of Joe's children by his first wife were adults by the time my grandfather came along so he did not know them well growing up. Feldman had nieces/nephews from those older siblings that were his same age which he thought was funny.

I hope this helps. I'll find out the first name of Joe's first wife and post again.

I am also searching for information on the Gautney/ Harrelston family. So far I have found that according to the 1880 census both fathers were born in South Carolina and their mothers were born in Tennessee. The cesus shows Sophonia born in Alabama and Franklin born in Florida. Franklin's parents were Moses(no middle name) Gautney and Sara Taylor.
Moses move to Florida after the Civil War and died young and Sara lived with Franklin and Sophonia. According to one of Franklin's children Mattie, Sara lived to be 111-112 years old. I have other information on the Gautney side but little on the Harrelston. Would enjoy sharing.
Jennifer,
Thank you. Any information that you have or can find about Joseph's first wife would be helpful. Joseph's first child, and I assume by his first wife, was Beedie Elizabeth Harrelson born 1884. She is my great grandmother. I have never been able to find the identity of her mother, although I believe that it may have been Mary also, but I am not sure.
I appologize for my mistake of "Felderman". I am changing that in my records today.
I look forward to hearing from you again.
I have some of the same surnames you have; VARNER, HENDRICKS, and probably HARRELSON.

My GGRfather was JOSEPH FRANK VARNER, and I think his Dad was JOSEPH M. VARNER, married JULIA ?, she was from GA, and I think he was from, SC_NC or TN. The children were born in MS. They came to TX and that iswhere I am.

My HARRELSON is possible in my DAVENPORT line that connect to my VARNER line. My HENDRICKS is on my Mother's line, JEMIMA HENDRICKS marrried BRADSHAW.

Any connections ?

Be Blessed,
Lorene
