Walter J. Harriett, 74, of South Park, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008. Beloved husband of Victoria (Munizza) Harriett; brother of Richard Harriett; son of the late John Richard and Jennie (Bruce) Harriett; also survived by nieces and nephews. Walter was a member of the Pleasant Hills AARP, Nativity Church and the Nativity Senior Citizens. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Nativity Church, South Park. Entombment in Jefferson Memorial Park Mausoleum. www.jeffersonmemorial.biz. Our James Harriett (sometimes spelled Herriott) came to the US from Glasglow Scotland and settled in PA. He also had a son James, who worked in the oil fields of PA, Ohio, and Indiana. He returned to PA where he died in ca. 1920.

Do you have any information on the James Herriott from Princeton? The family seemed to follow the oil fields.

I am looking for relatives of this woman. She has quite a strange first name.

SHe was born 1809 in Wast Walton, Norfolk, England. She got married to William Clark (e) born in Lynn, Norfolk, England. They got married in South Lynn, Norfolk, England.

Anyone got any information on her? I have hers and Bills children. I also have all the 1841 Eng census for then on.

My grandmother was born in 1896 so the time frame for my great grandfather James Harriett came from Scottland around 1848 he was around 7. I have not found what ship he was on let. Any information you might have would be appreciated.

John, My gggreatfather was born in Scotland, His brother John was thought to have been born on the ship coming to America. His born place being Scotland, because of the distanced. I am also a desendant of John A. Harriett (Dec. 22, 1849-Jan 10, 1924).
My grandfather was Elmer D. Harriett (July 4, 1924-July 25, 1989),
his father was Elmer J. Harriett (July 4, 1887- Nov 16, 1961).
Our John A. Harriett was know by many as John O'Hara.
The census from 1910 has him listed as O'Hara.
Apparently many people called the family by the name O'Hara.
His place of birth is unknown, every year in the census he would respond differently, NY, NY, and Conn.
In the 1880 census, he has a "sister" (who is presumed to be a half sister)...Martha Haywood, she was 13.
His death certificate lists his parents as unknown.

Do the names Haywood or O'Hara mean anything to you?
I was always told that that part of the family was Irish.
On the census he usually says that one parent was Irish, one English (he often changed his mind about which was which).
What were your James's parents names?
Were there any other siblings?
Were they Irish, or English, or Scotish?
What port did they sail into?

I received information that my great-grandfather was John A. Harriett. He was born Dec. 22, 1849 and died Jan. 10, 1924. He married Sarah Melissa Atkiknson and they had the following children - Elmer Jesse, William O, Walter B, Daisy E, Wanetta L, James M, and John . My great-grandfather allegedly also went by the name John Oharra and was the constable in Nottingham Twp, Washington County, Penna. from Nov. 1895 to 1905.

They came over abt. 1848 My gggrandfather was about 7 years old. I haven't found the ship yet, but a son was born coming over possible it was John. Do you have information this names. James and Mary had serveral children Earl, Edna, Falbert and Maud and my grandfather Frank. Where was your family from? My mother's surname was Harriett. They were from MO, and Nebraska. My sister, cousins, and I are just beginning to try to locate our roots. My grandfather's name was Florence Richard Harriett. My great-great-grandfather was a "forty-niner", struck it rich in CA and returned to Nebraska I believe. My mother had a distant cousin in New York State.

I have no idea where my Harriett/Harriot fore fathers came from. The information I have as posted previously gives very little on James HARRIETT husband to Winfred KORNEGAY. I know Winfred's family was originally from Upper Palatine Germany and migrated to the Trent River area of NC (now Craven Co./ Jones Co.) as part of De Graffenreidt's Swiss Palatine colony. My ussumption is that James HARRIETT was in this area at some point due to 2 of his 3 children being born there. The book I have entitled The History and Genealogy of Jones County NC has a biographical scetch in it about Thomas Hariot. It also has five generations (1664-1900) of the Hariot family of Haddington, Scotland. This family is listed in a book ("Thomas Boston Clarkson of SC") compiled by Francis O. Clarkson. However there is no connection noted between this line and my line. (Although there may be one.????) If any one is interested in this family let me know and I will send it to you.
