Harrimans in Canada, MN and WI

My Harrimans descended from Rufus Putnam Harriman
and Juddith Merrick. I am curious as to the
move to Maine and then Canada for some of the
Harrimans. My particular group lived in Canada
for a while then came back to the US through
MN and WI. Does anyone know what motivated these
moves, lumber, land grants etc?
