I have been researching my Harrimans/Herrimans for quite a while. Members of the family started immigrating to Canada before the Am Rev for land grants. Nathaniel Harriman was a Loyist and received land for his services during the war.
My branch from Rufus Harriman b.1766, brought his family to Canada 1807-1810. They lived in Williamsburg, Ontario and Argenteuil Co., Quebec. for several years. My direct ancestor, Rufus's son, Joseph Harriman left Canada <1820> to NY, OH and last WI. He brought his family to WI <1840>.
I have a lot of information on this family and would like to share with anyone interested.

My research indicates that Dudley and Mary were married in Gilmantown, Belknap County, New Hampshire. That his parents, Stephen Gilman and Rebecca Coffin were married in Deerfield, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. The family was in Exeter, New Hampshire and came from Hingham, England. There is a lot of information on early members of this family in various books on the history of New Hampshire and its various towns.

I am interested in exchanging information with you although I do not have much on Moses and Lucretia. The only proof I have that my line and your line are related is in a newspaper article which states that Jerry Harriman was a cousin to Levi Harriman.

My goal is to find parents of Levit and Nancy (Pernal) Harriman. I found my ggg grandparents Levit (age 51,) and Nancy Harriman (ag 46), in the 1850 Census for Cain Township, Fountain County, Indiana listed with his children: Lucretia (age 15), Lewis (age 13) Jerremiah (age 11), Ann (age 10), Moses (age 8), and Samuel (age 5). Samuel the youngest listed is my gg grandfather born in Veedersburg, IN. Samuel married May Elizabeth Stevenson 19 Sep 1870 in Indiana. Samuel and Mary Elizabeth's children were: Walter, Ala, Francis Marion, Pearl, John, Harley, James Howard, Anna, and Verna. I have photos of all of Samuel and Mary Elizabeth's children. I want to share the photos with others who are interested.

Richard,

I just found your message about Mason Harriman and family. I don't know anything about him, but he could be my GGGGrandfather. Hannah Harriman, b. 4/10/1828, d. 3/5/1891, m. Edward Penick in 1860, was my GGGrandmother. Hannah and Edward lived in Eden Twp., Licking Co., OH and are buried at the Eden Church Cemetery there. I've been unable to determine who Hannah's parents or siblings were. What do you think?

Rich,
Thanks so much for your messages! You have given me incentive to keep searching for my Harriman/Penick ancestors. My mother remembers my grandfather telling her that Hannah’s father ran a pumping station south of Martinsburg, Clay Twp., Knox Co., OH. Have you heard anything like that? Also, I found other Harrimans shown in “Cemetery Records of Knox County, Ohio” to be buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Martinsburg. They were as follows:

William S. Harriman, b. 1830, d. 1887
Mary A. (Sanders) Harriman, b. 1833, d. 1917
Clarence C. Harriman, b. 1873, d. 1910
David R. Harriman, no dates
Mary (McFarland) Harriman, no dates

The only one of these names you mentioned was David; but without dates, who knows? Thanks again. If I learn more, I will let you know, and I hope you will do the same.
Hi Berk, Nice to hear from you again. Your latest information makes sense, i.e., William S. is actually Smith W, (my Hannah’s brother) because I surely haven’t found a William S. from any other source. And, the Presbyterian Cemetery in Martinsburg, OH is such a short distance from the other two cemeteries in Knox and Licking Counties where other Harrimans are buried. Thanks for all your help.
I do have a list of his children, but his son, Dudley, was born in the 1700s so yours would have to be 2 or 3 generations younger than that. I know that there are several books out covering the earlier Gilmans, but I am not sure what is out there for the Canadian branches later. You should be able to find them in the 1861 census and beyond.

Hello Valerie,
Well that is 'the' question I am trying to unravel! I have managed to find a tree relating to some family members that we have been searching for for years! My Great Aunt moved to America in 1926 ( Mary O'Donnell). She Married Patrick William Gavin from New York. They had 3 children - 2 boys and a girl. From the tree I have found that one of the boys (either Patrick or James) married a Patricia Ruth Harriman - Father William Karl Harriman and Mother Laretta Orvalette Burns). When My Great Aunt and her husband died the family moved from NY to California, but I do not know whether this was just Maureen (daughter) or all 3 of them...
If you can shed any light on this it would be very much appreciated...

Kindest regards

Sharon

My Harrimans are mostly from Maine and Mass.
But, you definitely are in the right place to search. Also, a good thing to do, if you havent already, is to do a family tree on this site.
Ezra + Rebecca HARRIMAN/HARRAMAN

I'm looking for relatives of Charles "Charley" Elmer Claybaugh of Ohio. He was my grandpa's dad, and he died in 1935 in a car accident a few months before my grandpa was born. There is only one photo of him in our posession and I'd like to get copies of other pictures of him and his parents/grandparents/siblings. I'm also interested in photos of any other relatives from this line. My grandpa doesn't really know much about his Claybaugh side of the family since he was disconnected from them before he was even born. :/
I have checked the census records for 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and this is what I came up with:

Charley's parents were John H. CLAYBAUGH and Minnie HARRIMAN of Hardin County, Ohio, USA. John's father was possibly named William CLAYBAUGH, though I'm not sure about that. Minnie's parents were Ezra and Rebecca HARRIMAN (also spelled HARRAMAN in at least one census record). Minnie had one sister, Etta HARRIMAN (b. abt 1864) and two brothers, George HARRIMAN (b. abt 1866) and Charles HARRIMAN (b. abt 1870). (Photos and info on the Harrimans are also quite welcome!)

John H. CLAYBAUGH + Minnie HARRIMAN, married about 1893, both of Hardin County, Ohio, USA (all their kids are, too).

Price CLAYBAUGH ( b. abt 1896)
Hazel CLAYBAUGH (b. abt 1900)
Charley E. CLAYBAUGH (b. abt 1903, d.23 NOV 1935)
Frank M.CLAYBAUGH (b. abt 1906)
Edith CLAYBAUGH (b. abt 1909)
Mabel CLAYBAUGH (b. abt 1911)

Charles "Charley" Elmer CLAYBAUGH + Eva Mae GUNN, married 15 DEC 1930

Leon Max CLAYBAUGH, died 1 MAR 1974
Melvin Rohe CLAYBAUGH, died 28 JUN 1965
Billy Douglas CLAYBAUGH, died 27 OCT 1981
Charles E. CLAYBAUGH, born 1935, still living (this is my grandpa)

I do not have birth dates for any of Charley and Eva Mae's boys, except my grandpa, but I think Billy was born first. I do not know if/when any of them married, but I am fairly sure one of them (possibly Melvin) had a child named Susan.

If anyone has vital stats, bios, and/or photos of these people, I'd be very happy to see them. Thanks in advance!

-Katie Claybaugh Bradner

Hello
My name is Marlene Kenney formerly Harriman. I was born in Morrisburg and raised on a farm just north of Williamsburg.
I may be related to the family you are looking for. My grandfathers name was Asa Harriman, my father Dwane Harriman. James was Asa's brother. Cora was their sister. Ted Herriman still living and is north of Williamsburg, married to June Fife(not sure of spelling). Ted's father was James Harriman. Unice Harriman was James Harriman's wife. Roy Harriman was the son of Charlie Harriman. Ted spells his name as Herriman I believe. Some spell it with an a and others with the e. His address is R.R.#1 Williamsburg, Ontario. Postal Code might be K0C 2H0. Also, look at a Leonard Harriman who immigrated to Canada or USA around 1622 or 1628.
I am trying to find out about the family tree also. I would be interested to find out what you learn.

My name is Marlene Kenney formerly Harriman. I was born and raised in the Williamsburg area here in Ontario, Canada. I understand that my father Dwane Harriman was distant cousin to Averell Harriman of the United States. Some of my ancestors came from the states. There was a Leonard Harriman who came from England in the early 1600's who may be one of my ancestors. There are also some Harriman's living in Toronto but I don't know if they are any relation don't think so.

We show Margaret Harriman Nunn as the daughter of William and Mary Ann (Luke) Harriman.
We have not determined the parents of WIlliam Harriman, but could be Charles Harriman who lived in Monroe and Washington Counties, OH (parent counties of Noble)

Harriman Family Association
hfa@chesabay.org

We show Robert and his father, John, as spelling the name Harryman. We believe that this line is not related to the Harrimans of New England through our DNA testing.
But we have some members descended from Robert's brother, John.

Harriman Family Association
hfa@chesabay.org

Leonard Harriman, b. about 1622, m. Margaret, whose last name is still unknown. There has never been any proof shown that she was Margaret Palmer. The burial of "Margrit Harryman, w. Leonard" is shown in the Rowley VR, but not her death date. There is no birth record for her in Rowley.
Leonard and Margaret had 5 children: John, Matthew, Hannah, Jonathan and Mary. John died at the battle of Bloody Brook. Matthew married Elizabeth Swan and had many children.
The father of Leonard was most probably Matthew, of Uldale, England. His mother's name is unknown.
Two books by the Harriman Family Association cover both the ancestors and the descendants of brothers Leonard and John Harriman. See
www.harriman-family.org
