I may be way off but I think that the Jason L Harris that you guys are talking about died in prison in Marshall NC. This is what I found. "During the Civil War years, Jason made a key to aid a sick friend jailed in the Confederate orison in Marshall, North Carolina. The friend escaped; but Jason was caught, jailed and died in prison. Jason was an accomplished locksmith, gunsmith, blacksmith and fiddle maker. Clarence Harris, a grandson living on Higgins Creek, has a gun made by his grandfarther about 1850. It was hidden in a hollow tree during the war period. Robert Ledford, another decendant, has a violin made by Jason. The jail key, silver scales, guns and other items are prized heirlooms in thepossession of Jason Harris descendants.
