Hi There:

Regarding Elvis C. Napier: I worked for Elvis and his wife on their "Napier Goat Dairy" at the corner of Gill Rd. And West 8 Mile Road from about 1964 through 1966.

His wife Louise was quite ill, on supplementary oxygen, and mostly bed bound while still smoking cigarettes when I knew them. If I might have any information that you could use, please contact me at Janbroad@gmail.com

If you have A DOB or DOD for Elvis or his wife, I would appreciate that information.

Mr. Napier shared many stories with me over the years.

Jan M.
Still trying to document connections between my St. Louis Hartkes and those in Gasconade County (MO)---both groups came from Pommern although the Gasconade group came about 30 years ealier. I suspect that these groups are also connected to the Hartke families in Marion County (KS) and maybe one of the Illinois Hartke families.

hi:

my name is greg hartke, also. and joseph hartke was my great-great-grandfather, also. his son, my great grandfather--if i remember his name correctly--was bernard.

both were in the carriage making business, in covington ky, which probably had something to do w/ what my grandpa (lee a. hartke)--one of bernard's sons--did for a living: he owned an auto body shop in erlanger ky. my grandpa's half bro., henry hartke, was also in the auto body business, and worked for my grandpa off and on.

so, bernard was his dad, and jos. his grandpa; and pictures of both hung in my grandpa's office until the day he died.

i don't really have any documents, etc. all my knowledge of the hartke's comes from what i was told from my relatives: especially my grandpa; and what i experienced as a hartke growing up.

if you want to know anything else, let me know.

thanx,
gh

ghartkey@msn.com
I have begun researching my great-grandmother, Antonina Hartke. I think I have found her birth record on a LDS microfilm for Pokrzydowo. It is difficult to read but it looks like her parents are Joseph and Agnes. She had sisters Anna, Eva and Catharina. That is all that I have transcribed at this point.
Antonina married Jan Tuchewicz and emigrated to Detroit around 1891. There were Hartkes living in Detroit at the same time, but I do not know if there is a connection. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please write to me.
Valerie Koselka
I believe the William Hartke you mention is my gg grandfather. My grandmother was Emma Mae Wilson. Her mother was Minnie Hartke. I have information that I have collected from Michigan City, Indiana on family members and dates. Most of my information has come from my grandmother's recollection and my research at the Michigan City Public Library. I have a neat picture which I believe to be Minnie Hartke (guessing age in the 20s). I am interested in gathering more information of any kind on the Hartke family. My data differs slightly from some of yours. For example, I have an obit from the Michigan City News on William Hartke. He died Tuesday 29 August 1911 at the home of Mrs. Charles Loetz in Michigan City, Indiana. He lived on State St. which is now Chicago St. and worked at the car works or chair factory (a large factory complex on the north side of the street).

My family lived in Elkridge, in the house that my grandparents moved to when they lost the general store in the depression. It was next to "the old home place". Maybe I have some info that folks would find useful. I now live in Baltimore city so I'm not far from Elkridge. Let me know.

Hartke or Hardtke from Pommern

Interested in knowing more about the Hartke (or Hardtke) family name in Pommern. In 1882, Wilhelm Hartke and his wife Karoline (nee Kroepel) and family came to the U.S. from eastern Pommern in the Kreis Lauenburg area. They had been living in Kerschkow near Ossecken, not far from the Baltic Sea.

At the time, Pommern (or Pomerania) was a predominantly German region that became part of Poland after WW-II. Few, if any, Germans live in the eastern Pommern area today.

Wilhelm and Karoline and children August, Hermina, and Emelie settled in St. Louis, Missouri. Several more children were born in St. Louis including Emil, Otto, Wilhelm and Edward. The family was Lutheran and attended St. Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Louis.

There were other Hartke or Hardtke families already in the U.S. from this same area. Looking for connections to any other Hartke or Hardtke families from Pommern.

I have Hardtke relatives that emigrated from Pommerania about 1872/74.
They lived in the Chicago area all their lives.
Augusta was born 2-Mar-1850 and married John Volkmann.
August, her brother, was born about 1861.
Bertha, her sister, was born about 1863.
According to Augusta's death certificate, her father was John ?Kromriel?. It was hard to read, but definately did not look like Hardtke.
I don't have much more information on August and Bertha, but there are many August Hardtke's in the Wisconsin, Illinois area at that time.

Looking for family!! Here's what I know of them. Joseph Hartke & Paul Hartke are brothers. Joseph came to America from Germany... while it's believed that Paul stayed in Germany. We think they would've been born around the 1930s and still could be living. Joseph married a woman named Yolanda (who was from Columbia). They had 2 children named Herman Hartke and Alexandra Hartke. We think Alexandra is about 8 years younger than Herman. They could be in their 30's - 40's right now. We know that we are related to you!!! My mother remembers you when you were young. It's believed you may live in Washington. According to my mother she and Paul Hartke were pen pals as children. Somehow, you are related to the Hunich family and we want to know how! If this is you or you know these people please contact me. Your distant cousin Breanne Gaines. breannee@yahoo.com
