Need DNA participant - Hartsfield

The Hatfield DNA project, which includes Hartsfields, is very small at this point, but it is already raising questions.

Research of recent years has apparently established that John Hatfield / wife Catherine Supplee of Philadelphia is supposed to be a descendant of Jurien Hartsfelder.

However, new DNA results came back from the lab last week which say that the descendant of John Hatfield / Catherine Supplee who was tested is a match for another participant who may descend from immigrant Matthias Hatfield of New Jersey.

If these lineages are correctly researched, then it's very possible that immigrants Matthias Hatfield and Jurien Hartsfelder are closely related.

It is also possible that one of these lineages is slotted to the wrong immigrant family, and the participants are continuing to check this.

I am looking for a direct-line male Hartsfield who can trace back to Godfrey Hartsfield, son of Jurien Hartsfelder, who is willing to join the DNA project. This is the only way to determine if the research of Dr. Oliver Weaver and Dr. Galen Hatfield into Hartsfield ancestry is correct.

See the DNA project webpage (click the tab "Results") for further information:
www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hatfield/

It is the sample labeled H-5 that descends from John Hatfield / Catherine Supplee ... and is supposed to represent the DNA of Jurien Hartsfelder.

If you can locate a living male named Hartsfield (genealogist or not) who might be a candidate, please contact the project administrator.

Thanks.

I found the following family on the 1850 & 1860 Carroll Co, MS census and wondered if anyone else out there are researching this family:
James Hartsfield b 1806 NC; Mary NC; Macomb b 1836 NC; Catherine b 1838 GA; John b 1841 MS; James b 1845 MS; Joanna b 1842 MS; Mary b 1860 MS. I haven't found any record of any of this family after 1860 census except Joanna.
I believe that Joanna is my husbands ggrandmother married to David Lamb in DeSoto Co, MS Jan 13, 1869. The last time I find Joanna is on the 1880 Tate Co, MS census so I assume she died sometime before 1888 as David remarries in that year.
Karen Craig McAndrew

Joseph Asa Hartfield b 1829, s/o Benjamin H.G. & Louisiana

just an FYI identification and a funny coincidence:
Joseph Asa HARTFIELD married Mrs Martha Sue [Mahurin] Perkins SHERRARD on 25 Oct 1892 in Hill County, Texas.
Martha was the widow of Calvin Lewis SHERRARD Sr who was the son of Joseph Hamilton SHERRARD & Lucinda [RHODES].
Joseph was born 24 Oct 1829 in Sevier Co, Ar and died
22 Jul 1898. I do not know if Joseph had married prior to Martha or not. He was the son of Benjamin Howard George HARTFIELD & Louisiana [INGLISH] who married 05 Jan 1828 in Sevier Co, Ark.
.........the funny coincidence (to some of us!):
Calvin Lewis Sherrard Sr's older sister Rachel Jane [SHERRARD] was married 4 times. Her 3rd husband, Pinckney ANDERSON, was a 1st cousin of Mrs Louisiana [Inglish] Hartfield who was the daughter of Sarah [ANDERSON] & Joseph INGLISH..

HARTSFIELD - Neighbors in FRANKLIN CO. NC

I'm trying to find information on a Jesse Richards of Franklin Co. North Carolina. I have found thru Court records that a Darling Sanders ( son of my ggggreat grand father ) bought 86 acres of land and gave Jesse Richards lifetime survival rights on the land. My GGGGrandfather was a James Sanders/Saunders and his wife a GILLY, trying to find out my Sanders ancestors.I am wondering if possibly Jesse Richards
could of been the father of Gilly by getting life time rights to live on the 86 acres. They lived in the area of Crooked Creek, before it runs into Tar River. a plat map of the area shows that Edward Cooley lived on one side of James Sanders and Jesse Richards on another and JACOB HARTSFIELD on the other. If there is any Hartsfield descendents or any body that has information on the names above.
I would appreciate any info that any one might have.
Thank you very much. jot72121@alltel.net

The Hartsfield Story -- Jurian Hartsfielder descendants

With his permission, I have placed a copy of Dr. Oliver C. Weaver, Jr.'s "The Hartsfield Story" on my website at http://www.the-sims-family.net/genealogy/sims/ Click on the "Documents" tab on the left to access the documents.

This was scanned in from a copy contained in Nell Clover's "The Hartsfields of America" made in 1972. It covers Jurian Hartsfielder of Marcus Hook who died abt 1690, and his descendants Andreas Hartzfelder, Edward Hatfield/Hartsfield, Godfrey Hartsfield, and (possibly) George Hatfield.

Dr. Weaver informs me that the latest update to this text was a 110 page book published in 1996: "The Hartsfield Family of Marcus Hook Ye Delaware River, 1676." Which was a revised edition of Part II of a Yeldell-Hartsfield-Weaver book published in 1993.

I am looking for copies of this latest book to scan in and publish on the web. Please let me know if you have a copy you can send.

Enjoy!
-Richard Sims
Descendents of Enos/Enoc Hartsfield

I'm trying to find out more information on Enos/Enoc Hartsfield. I can't figure out which is his name. He was married twice. His first wife was Abigail Goings. I know of two children by that marriage, Leander Hartsfield, and Oscar "Boss" Hartsfield possibly born in AR. Leander married Mattie Welch. Boss married a woman who was called Zadie. I know that some of the descendants of Boss and Zadie live in Bentonville, AR. Enoc married his second wife Vergie Walker. I know of one child by that marriage, Ralph Leonard "Cobb" Hartsfield b. 1 Dec, 1903 in AR, d. 21 Feb. 1981. Cobb married Annie Kornegay b. 21 Sep 1909, d. 19 Jul 1995. Cobb and Annie are buried in Monroe County, AR. Leander and Mattie had three kids, at least, maybe more. I know the names of two, Ellis and Horace Hartsfield. Horace is my grandfather and he was born in 1920 in AR, which county I'm not sure of. I also know that Mattie had a sister who married one of Leander's brothers. The sister and brother had a daughter named Mary. If anyone has names, dates, places or anything that might help me fill in all these gaps that I have, I would really appreciate it.

Charity

I am looking for the parents of Wiley Hartsfield Simms who was born June 11, 1811 in Georgia dnd died December 2, 1871 in Troup County, Georgia. He married Virginia Jeffersonia Sterling December 23, 1841 in Troup County, Georgia. I have 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses for Wiley Hartsfield Simms and his family. He named my Great Grandfather Jefferson Hartsfield Simms. Also, one of Wiley Hartsfield Simms' son, Charles Lawrence Simms, named one of his sons Wiley Hartsfield Simms. I am looking for a Simms who married a Hartsfield. My Great Great Grandmother Virginia Jeffersonia Sterling was the daughter of Wiley Jefferson Sterling and Bethany Bonner. My Simms family has always spelled their surnames Simms from Wiley Hartsfield Simms on. My maiden name is also Simms.

Martin Sims and Elizabeth Hartsfield

I am specifically looking for information on Martin Sims who married Elizabeth Hartsfield. I found both the 1830 and 1840 censuses on Martin, but haven't found any other information other than the second marriage to Margaret Scroggens in 1832 in Troup County. What I've gathered says Martin did die in Pike County so I'm estimating that he did die after the 1840 census. I am specifically looking for probate records, land records, tax records and other county records that would give me more information.

I did look at the probate index for Pike County on microfilm at the LDS archives this morning and only found one Sims, Sherod.

I am exploring the possibility that my Great Great Grandfather Wiley H. Sims was the son of Martin Sims and Elizabeth Hartsfield. The first record we've found of Wiley H. Sims is in Troup County. At first we thought he was the son of Wiley Henry Sims and Mary Hartsfield, but census reports as well as the probates of Wiley and Mary are raising doubts in my mind.

I also looked at Billie Owens' SIMS KIN book again today, but there is no mention of a Wiley Sims with Martin Sims and Elizabeth Hartsfield as parents. I do have the records from ancestry.com and plan to do more posting today to see if anyone has any more information.

Corine

FOUND - A Hartsfield Family Bible

I am in NC and have found a Hartsfield Family Bible in a local antique store - It needs to be in someone's hands I'm sure - it dates back to mid-1800's. Much handwritten info on many people in it. Many names and dates - A Jesse and/or J.L. Hartsfield could have owned it. As a genalogist myself I know the importance of this to someone. I hope to hear from someone before it is bought and is gone.

Lost Hartsfield Bible

Just recently found out that a bible once belonging to my grandfather, John Elliott Hartsfield is lost. The circumstances surrounding the loss are as follows: Upon the death of John Elliott his bible was given to one of his daughters. She kept the bible in a chest of drawers. Someone sold the chest either without her knowledge at the time or she did know and had forgotten about the bible being in the chest. Anyway, the chest was sold and of course the bible lost as no one was able to find out who the chest was sold to. I believe this may have taken place in Arkansas but do not know exactly where. This happened many years ago and of course memories have faded. The bible could be anywhere by now but it was very important to my aunt. I am not sure that the bible would be of any value to anyone except the family of John Elliott. Please if anyone has any info on this bible contact me at laura6542@msn.com.

Horace Hartsfield

My grandfather was Horace Hartsfield b 1918 (?) in AR, died 9 Jan 1999. I don't even know his father's name. I can say that his father and his father's brother both married sisters. My grandfather's double cousin, the product of his uncle and aunt's marriage was named Mary Hartsfield, and she died 7 Jan, 2001. My grandfather married Vera Estelline Hartsfield in 1941 in Lake Village, AR. My grandfather had some siblings, but they are known to be by nicknames. One was called Uncle Shorty. He died around 1990. His wife was named Katherine. Another brother was called Uncle Pete. I am also aware that my great-grandfather Hartsfield had a second wife by which there were other children. If anyone knows more about any of these people, I would sincerly appreciate it.

Charity
