I have a picture of J.W. Hartsoch and Safrona (Dawson) Hartsoch that has 10 children with them. Alfred (my 2nd greaat grandpa) Charlie, Oscar, Art, Anna, Lydia, Martha, Loyd, Ted, and MARY. Alfred was born March 7th 1887. It looks like they were brother and sister. I have some more info on her parents and grand parents if you think they are the same. Also J.W. Hartsoch's father John Wesley used the spelling Hartsock with a k instead of the h.

J.W. Hartsoch was married to Safrona Alice (Dawson) Hartsoch. John Wesley was his father born in Ohio 1825 his wifes name was Anna (Rul). John (J.W.'s father) spelled his last name different. Hartsock with a k instead of the h. J.W. is my 3rd great grandfather. I have two photos of John and Anna Hartsock. My name is Justin Hartsoch.

Mary E. Hartsoch daughter of John and Anna Hartsoch is my 2nd greatgrandmother. She married Jurd (Jerd, Jerad) Wilson.
They had 6 children: Anna Louise 1875-1951, William C., Scott, Dorsey D., Allie, & Benjimin Harrison. Anna Louise Wilson married Schuyler C. Collins 6 Nov 1897 in Dunn county Wisconsin . They are my greatgrandparents. As an adult, Anna writes in her diary about growing up in Starke county, Indiana. She mentions her grandparents.
“The Wilson’s are my father’s parents. My mother’s parents lived across the big marsh in the Liamore(sic) settlement & their family name is Hartsock. My half brother’s name was Edward Reed. My parents live in Stark county, Indiana.”

Elsie May Hartsoch (05-10-887) married Jesse Levi Cartwright (08-04-1874 or 75) in 1903. They are my greatgrandparents. They had a son named Roy Cartwright (02-17-1904) who married Louise Pearl Serfling (08-26-1910). I have extensive information on the Serfling family, but very scetchy information on the Hartsoch family. I, like everyone else can't find any information on Rosetta Jane Dean (Isaac's wife). I would love to talk with you.

Searching for a Mary Hartsoch (unsure of correct spelling) who married a Samuel Russell. Only other info I have is at least two sons, one William, I believe, who married an O'Daniel woman. The other son was Noah March Russell dob 1 Mar 1882, possibly in Western grove of Walnut Grove Arkansas.

The John Wesley Hartsoch Born 1825 Died 1899 Was married to
Anna Rule, His Son John Wesley Hartsoch was born 1859, Died 1912 was married to Saforona Dawson, Born 10 Jan, 1862
Died 1929 I have more info if wanted. :)

Isaac Hartsock, b. 1798, in Pennsylvania. This Isaac was the son of Jonathan and Hannah (Gusbert) Hartsock.
Jonathan was quite possibly the son of Peter and Sarah Hartzog.

Mary Mae Hartsough Book

The repetitive names do add to the confusion but it also helps prove that John Hartsock son of Isaac and Susanna (Petnord) Hartsoch was the same person as our John W. or John Wesley Hartsoch who married Rose Anna Rule. If Mary Mae had been alive to see her book published it can be assumed that she would have recognized that she made a mistake when stating that this John, son of Isaac married Elizabeth Valentine.
Mary Mae Hartsough was very careful with most of the documentation in her notes and I expect that she would have enjoyed learning about this possible link between the Hartsock and Hartsoch families.
Our Hartsoch family tree contains the names of many of your Steffen relatives. However, it would be helpful if you could fill in a few more of the blank spaces for me.

I only mentioned the book of Hartsough-Hartsock because it didn't make sense to me that some of the names above are the same. I'm wondering if the executrix put names in the wrong place for John W b.1825. I also have names and dates close to what you had on your message for the children and I have a copy of the marriage certificate for John and Anna Rule. Hope I didn't confuse you.

According to my records John W. Hartsoch, B. March 16, 1825-M. October 9, 1945-( to Rose Anna Rule born June 10, 1824 d. September 18, 1904 in North Dakota) d. June 14, 1899, who's father was Isaac and mother was Susanna, or Sarah (he had two different wives?) had a son John Wesley Hartsoch on 25 Feb. 1859.
There was "A History of the Hartough-Hartsough-Hartsock Family" put out in 1964 by the estate of Mary Mae Hartsough who has the names of a Cynthia b. 1823,

Dorsey b. 1827
The above are children of Isaac and Susana
Nancy Ann b. 1833
Mary Jane 1831
Nelson b. 1833
Bateman b.1835
Saphrona b. 1835
George W. b. 1839
Samantha b. 1841
Saraphina b. 1843
In this book it is written that"John was born aboout 1825, probably in Fairfield County, Ohio. He was married to Elizabeth Valentine on December 30, 1860, No record is available concerning the children." I only have parts of this that have to do with my family line, but I do have records that prove that John W. and Anna Rule have "joined in the bounds of matrimony" on October 5, 1945.

Actually it was J.W. Hartsoch who was born 2/25/1859. He sometimes called himself John but according to my records he was simply named J.W.
John Wesley (b. 3/16/1825) and Anna Rule (b. 6/11/1824)were J.W., Calista, Mary, Dorsey, Cynthia Jane, and Isaac Harrison Hartsoch's parents.
Isaac was born at Knox, Indiana and the other children were born in Seneca Cnty, Ohio.

Dorsey b. 9/29/1849 m. Laura Dawson
Cynthia b. 8/10/1857 m. Tobias Good/

Anna Rule has often been referred to as Rosanna and similar names.

Isaac Harrison did marry Rosetta Dean and one of their children, Ocie Leona Hartsoch married William Steffen.

There was a John Wesley Hartsoch born on 2/25/1859 born to Rose Anne Rule and John W. Hartsoch (married 9/9/184?) There was a daughter Cynthia, (1857), Mary (1850), Calista Selba (1846) and Dorsey (1855) and Isaac Harrison Hartsoch born 4/16/1862. Isaaac married Rosetta Jane Dean in 1884. their children were Ocie Liona, 1884, Elsie May, 1887, Olive Betsey, 1892, Sofia Effie, 1897 and Charley Elvin in 1900. Ocie Dean Married William Fredrick Steffen Sept. 4, 1900.

I am looking for verification that John Wesley Hartsoch was or wasn't the son of Isaac and Susana (Petnord) Hartsock.
Isaac was born in Huntingdon County, Pa. in 1798.
Isaac and his first wife (Susana) had three children; John, Dorsey and Cynthia.
John Wesley Hartsoch's father's name was Isaac.John Wesley also named two of his children, Dorsey and Cynthia.
Some Hartsock historians had John, the son of Isaac being born in Ohio about 1825, the same as John Wesley Hartsoch was. However,they believed Elizabeth Valentine was the wife of John hartsock and have no record of any children from that marriage.
Any info that could help with this possible Hartsoch/Hartsock family connection would be greatly appreciated.
