Hartsteins

I'm looking for a completely different line of Hartsteins: My direct line goes from Daniel John Hartstein, b. 1983 in Mishawaka, Indiana to John Mark Hartstein, b. 1957 in (I believe) South Bend, Indiana to Theodore John Hartstein, b. 1931 in South Bend, Indiana to William Fredrick Hartstein, b. 1893 in Lansing, Michigan to John Hartstein, b. 1869 in Germany. I don't know anything else beyond that point. The sad thing is, the only two I have never met are William Fredrick Hartstein and John Hartstein of Germany. Crazy to say, but I wish there were more that I knew of! If you have any information at all of John Hartstein of Germany, married to Bertha Beyer of Germany, b. 25 Mar 1871, and wouldn't mind posting - it will be much appreciated!!

Thanks!

I see that your message was posted two years ago, but in case you don't know, Julius and Matilda (Hartstein) Zillmer are buried in Bremen Cemetery in Bremen, Marshall Co., Indiana. They are in the section called Yockey, Lot or Row 243, Graves 1 (Julius) and 3 (Matilda). This info is from www.bremen.lib.in.us/heritage which is the database of Bremen Cemetery records. Some of their children are also buried in that cemetery.

From census records, I believe Julius died between 1910 and 1920 and Matilda died after 1920.

This is a distant off-shoot of my own family, but I thought I'd pass along what I have.

Hi...My name is Linda Maiese- Fredrick, my father was Albert Maiese and his father was Angelo Maiese, who was born in Prignano Cilento Italy, in Salerno Province.
His father was Carlo Maiese, and that is as far back as I have gotten on this lineage. I know my great great grandfather's brother was Antonio and also Carmine. My grandfather Angelo came to the USA in 1922 from Italy, seeking his father Carlo who left many years before and did not return to Italy. I believe he located in New Jersey, and my grandfather was never able to locate him. Carmine Maiese' family went to South America, and we made a connection there. Tell me more about whom you are seeking.

Linda Maiese-Fredrick

Never did find my cousins that were working on our Hartstein branch. Been busy and the family tree has hit many brick walls. My generation does not seem interested and the older generation are either too ill to talk or full of resentments. Would love to chat about Hartstein line.

I have been tracking a number of un-linked (to my family) HARTSTEIN families as I do believe in many instances we will eventually find the common link. I do not have a Paul in any data base but do have several with the first name of Louis (Louie). If you would care to communicate with me and add your names to the data base that would be great. Obviously I am happy to share all the names, etc. that I now have.

Barbara Hartstein Gardner Wasser (e-mail) swass@global2000.net

Hi Gary, I went to Hebrew School when I was a kid...My name in Hebrew is Ruechelle Leah
(Rose Linda) which was my grandmother's name. My mother changed it in English to Linda Rose because she died so young..(uterine cancer) she died about a year before I was born...I'd say about 1943...I thought she was from Poland or Russia, but I could be wrong...She married my grandfather Louis Goldstein had 2 boys Myer Jack. Jack was my father...They lived on the East Side in lower Manhattan...around Ave. B....I don't know if we are looking for the same Leah or Rosa Hartman.....thought I would try...I've seen pictures of her, but never saw her in person...Then my father Jack married my mother Tillier (Nier) they lived on Clinton St in Manhattan, which is where I was born...then I moved to Coney Island when I was 13, then to Long Island, NY when I was 17...hope I have been some of a help to you....I guess we are both disappointed huh???? Linda Goldstein Onorato

Hi Linda,
My great-grandmother Leah died in Hungary some time between 1910 and 1925. There also was a Roza in my family (Hebrew name Rochel)...she was my grandfather's sister who died in Auschwitz in 1944. I don't know if there is any connection.
FYI, Leah is not a direct translation of Linda. Hebrew names often don't have English equivalents, though there are usually similarities between a person's Hebrew and English names.

my granmothers name was Rose Linda Hartstein who married my grandfather louis goldstein of manhattan, ny. My maiden name was linda rose goldstein. My mother changed the name around because rose hartstein died of uterine cancer before i was born. I was born in 1944, I think she died around 1943. She had two sons with my grandfather. Jack Myer who are now both deceased. She also had a stepson Barney from my grandfathers 1st marriage (his 1st wife also died). My grandfather was a tailor. Jack Myer her sons were both in the army when she was ill. My Dad Jack went a-wol when she was dying to see her. I don't know if she was a relative of yours...you said Rosa Hartstein, and as far as I know her name was Rose. I thought she was from Russia, but I'm really not sure. I think my grandfather's family was from Poland. Still not positive.

Matilda Hartstein m. Julius Zillmer ca. 1870-1880 Germany

(WURTENBERG)/Wuertternberg, Germany to St. Joseph Co., Indiana, USA:

I am looking for information about Julius Zillmer(Zilmer) and his wife Matilda Hartstein. Julius Zillmer was born circa 1850 and Matilda HARTSTEIN was born circa 1854-1855. Both were born in (Wurtenberg)Wuertternberg, Germany. Both Julius & Matilda reported that their parents were also born in Wurtenberg (That is how it is spelled in the 1880 US census). Matilda's parents may have been Matthaeus Hartstein and Catherina Barbara Haid. There was a Matilda Hartstein was christened
in Evangelisch, Unterhausen, Schwarzwaldkreis, Wuerttemberg. However, I have been unable to verify that this is my Matilda Hartstein.

I believe that Julius and Matilda were already married when they immigrated to the USA between 1865-1880. They settled in St. Joseph County, Indiana USA. They are listed in the 1880 census in St. Joseph Co, IN with one of their sons, William.
Their daughter, Louise Matilda Zilmer/Zillmer married Walter Mitchel.

Any information about Julius Zillmer and/or Matilda Hartstein and their ancestors would be greatly appreciated.

Emil married Mary Horst and had 3 children, one being my father Robert. William is the one I can not find. He had several children but no one knows where they went.
