Hi Debbie, I did not find the papers I thought I had, but I did find the 1880 Census for El Rancho, i(it is now called Ranchos de Taos). I now believe that your GRANNY.s Dad is most likely the SON of CHARLES HARTT.SILAS HARTT was one of 11 Children of CHARLES and RUFINA MARTINEZ HARTT> They were married in Taos, N.M. around 1846 or so, not all the children survived childhood. Silas was 8 yrs old in 1880. Silas would have been about 24 yrs old in 1896 . Next time I get out to the Family History Library I will check old Microfilm and see if I can find Silas HARTT and Juleanna Hammer. This Charles HARTT family has a very colorfull history! Silas 's older brother was also named Squire Hartt--after his uncle Squire Thomas Hartt--and became a Senator from Taos Countyat the first Senate formed after New Mexico became a state of the Union. I will tell you more if you think this is the right family. Helen
