Christoph Carl Ludwig Hartung

Carl was born on Aug.01. 1842 in Gross Schwelper, Nordrein - Westfalen. In 1867 he married Margaret McEwen in Rosskeen, Ross-shire, Scotland. The census for that area in 1871 had him listed as a master shoemaker, living at Rosskeen. After that time I can find no trace of him. The 1881 census shows Margaret, his wife, as head of the family, married, and it lists the children. From previous experience, this means that the husband was still living, but absent from the address on census day.
Can anybody help? After coming to Scotland the name at some point became HartIng.
I'd be grateful for any help.
Romola

My gg grandfather, John, his wife Maria Anna (Bischoff from the nearby village of Heuthen), and their first child Emma, emmigrated from Geisleden to Dickeyville, WI in 1857. John's father was Philip HARTUNG(1779 - 1854)and his mother was M. Magdalena NUSBAUM(1791 - 1850. I would like to try and make contact with any John's siblings descendants who may still be in the Geisleden area, or any other for that matter.

Thanks,
Chris

I am certainly interested in Hartungs from Butler county,PA.
My gggrandfather, Adam Hartung, came to Butler county in 1844. He and the family came on the ship Lucilla into the port of Richmond, VA. My part of the family moved to OH and
the KS and OK.

I would really like to make a connection to other Hartungs in Butler county. My ggrandfather married a Truby.

Hartung, who's youngest brother, Daniel, I am descended from. C.F. is descended from John Hartung, Jr., via John Hartung , Sr.

I have Frederick being born Jan 17, 1877.

If John Hartung Sr is generation 1, Frederick is generation 4 and I am 7.

I did not have his birth and death dates.

Heinrich (or Henry) was born in 1834 in Mittelkalbach, Hessen-Kassel, Germany. David Wolf on Rootsweb was working on the Wolf-Haines tree and he gave me the location of Henry's birth.

There were also other Hartung's who lived on the South Side of Pittsburgh but I don't know much about them.

We are probably linked in some way.
Re: Hartung Photography in Ardmore, Indian Territory, OK

I purchased a photo at a small store in Llano, Texas today. They had a large collection of photos by three generations of photographers named Hartung. Some of the earlier ones (Arthur Hartung I think) were from various Indian Territories around 1897. I'm not sure if that is the same Hartung you are looking for. This Hartung is apparently the man who photographed two famous photos of Quanah Parker. In one he wears a suit and is standing on a porch. Another is seen often. He is in his traditional Comanche clothing. The back of the photo I purchased says,
" www.hartungphotography.com" but that URL is dead. You might be able to find them in the Llano area by calling information.

Thanks,
Clark Gray
www.beehogray.com
Looks like there is a connection with Fr. Ferdinand. He is one of the eight sons of Heinrich (or sometimes Henry). The sons are Anton, Henry, David, Peter, John, Joseph, Edward and Ferdinand. My family is from Peter's tree but it's not your Peter. My Peter was born in 1861 and married Lucy Metz. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemeter in the North Hills. There is other Hartung's buried there.

Regarding Ferdinand, I know from Peter Hartung's Obituary in a Pittsburgh Newspaper that Reverand Ferdinand Hartung, O. S. B. was in Pueblo, Colorado and died after Peter, possibly after 1910. I had a birth date for him of 1865, but I was't sure if that is accurate. According to St. Mary Church, North Side, Pittsburgh, PA Centennial Book, "A 10:30 High Mass was celebrated and the assistant priest was Rev. Father Ferdinand Hartung, Professor in St. Vincent College, who was born in the parish". Also, in same book, Father Ferdinand Hartung, O. S. B., ordained September 23, 1892.

I have all the eight brothers being born between 1856 and 1872. All were born in Pittsburgh. I don't have much information on their children.

Does this help?
I can clarify a few things for you. John and Lorenz were the sons of Elizabeth and Balzer(died in Germany) Hartung. Elizabeth came to the U.S. with the children in 1854 and they resided in Joliet Illinois. The children were: Barnabus, Joseph, Katherine, Lorenz and John. These are the ones I have been able to verify so far. Lorenz and John left Joliet to live in Kansas. Some of the spellings I have found for Lorenz's name have been Lonn Hartung and also Lawrence Hartung. Elizabeth's year of birth is 1800 and she died Mar. 14, 1895 in Joliet IL. she is buried in St. John's Catholic cemetery in Joliet. My husband's family is linked to Barnabus he is my husband's great great grandfather. If you have any specific questions please email me and I'll be glad to help if I can.
Wilhelm Heinrich Hartung

I am searching for any information on Wilhelm Heinrich Hartung. He was born on 25 OCT 1898 in Magdeburg, Germany, married Charlotte Minna Blumenthal in January of 1929. They had one child. He remarried to a lady with the last name of "Unger". They also had children. He died 29 OCT 1984 in Berlin, Germany. Charlotte went on to live until 1994 in New York. We think that the separation had something to do with her family being Jewish, and can not find anything on them.
Wilhelm's father was Heinrich Friedrich and his mother was Friederika Luisa Schuetze. Charlotte's parents were Nathan Blumenthal and Clara Cohn. Nathan died in NY, NY in 1953 but Clara died in 1935 in Berlin.
Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Leah

I have seen your search for Hartung in Haderslev.
To day I was on the regional archive in Aabenraa (25 km south of Haderslev) to take a look at the Hartung family. I found the Hartung family, you have seen in the 1921 census - but is it your family???

Friedrich Hindrich Hartung (from the census) died 17 may 1944, and his wife Helene born Nissen
died 16. October 1927. I have taken photo from the church book, and can send it for you.

But something is wrong! When Helene died, she left 3 children:
1) Kathrine - who was born before Helene and Hindrich married - born Nissen, now married Jørgensen.
2) Anna, born Hartung, now married Lange
3) Marie Margrethe, born Hartung, now married Fallesen

Friedrich Hindrich Hartung and Helene Nissen was married 2 may 1891.

I have not found a Conradine Nissen born in Haderslev.

When did your grandmother died?

Please write and let me know, what you think about it.

I am living in Haderslev my self and will take o look on our local archive here. Perhaps I find something there.

Sincerely
Nancy Petersen

my grandfather was James Peter Hartung. He died in 1980. He married Elsie Malone. I believe they were married on 6/14/1929. He had 2 children, James Jr. or Jimmy but was called "Sonny" born i believe 10/30/1930. Then had Katharine Ann Hartung, my mom, who was born Sept 12th, but i don't know the year. She married a Richard Crist. His father was named Hans Hartung i believe the full name is (Han Christian Johann Peter Hartung)born 8/11/1876 his parents were Andrew Hartung & Christine Weis. He married Marie Chartrine Otzen born 5/8/1877. Had 5 kids, Christopher, Marie, James, Andrew, Christine. came to states 1918. I think this is all correct. I know for sure about James Peter hartung married to elsie malone and the 5 siblings. I believe the one sibling "Marie" married name is "Jensen"?? "Christine" married name is "Peterson"? Lived at 1 time in Petaluma. My notes show a Ellen Hartung now an Archie & Ellen Christian??? I don't know how that relates. I had some old photos and I believe thats how I came across that name. Is your grandfather James Hartung still alive? my grandfather lived near fresno california.
My grandfather came up to live with us in Spokane, Washington for a bit and died here. It sounds like we have the same information??? Was your grandfather married??? Where did he live? It sounds like the same person as the siblings you just can't get any closer than that! My name is Diana and would love to hear back from you.
