Hi Linda,
Interesting thread going on here. My name is Douglas Hartwell. My grandfather was James Sterling Hartwell. His oldest son (my father), Donald Hartwell, was born in West VA. All migrated to the Washington DC area, where I was born in 1965. I'm not sure if there is any connection here but it seems to fit.
