Kerry, you will find the name Harty most frequently in County Kerry, especially the area around Tralee, but there is some information showing the family name in Co. Waterford and Limmerick. You can access the Tralee phone book on line if you know any family member names. You might check your father's immigration papers to see where he lived in Ireland. Does anyone in your family there remember your Father stories about home? If you haven't been able to find anything through the LDS, he was probably from Kerry, as parish records have not been allowed to be copied for that County, Go to www.irish-times.com and follow their ancestory links.
