I think the reason there is a problem tracing Lillian Harty Lowe of Wapello Co. IA is her maiden name wasn't Harty, it was Spears. The census that has Lillian listed as daughter to Jesse & Mary Harty really meant daughter in-law to Mary. Jesse & Mary had no natural children together, but did adopt Mary Jeanette Spears. This was their 2nd marriage. Jesse had his children with Catherine & Mary had her children by Young Oswell (Oscar) Lowe. Lillian's parents were James (Scot) & Elizabeth (Eng) Spears. Lillian married Mary's son, Lambert. Lillian's brother, James, married Lambert's sister Maud. Check 1900 Wapello county census for family groupings. Lillian was my greataunt, her brother James was my grandfather. Jesse, I think, may have had a daughter named Lillian, but she wasn't the one who married Lambert.

Now, if someone could give me some info about Jesse Harty. I can't find ANYTHING about him, other than his life with Mary. He did have one distinct feature about him. He was cross-eyed.

English Family in Texas, USA Looking for Ancestrial Family Ties

Hello, my fathers name is Clarence Albert English; he was born in Clarksville, Texas.

His father, my grandfather, was Albert English who was also born in Clarksville Texas in 1897.

During my family history research I have discovered a small town that used to be near Clarksville Texas that is no longer on any United States maps. The name of this town was English Texas. The significance is at one time there was enough commerce and a large enough population in English Texas to justify a Unite States Post Office for mail delivery to the businesses and residents.

I think that the Cotton Gin and Plantation was founded and operated by Simeon English, his son or grandson, John Wicker English or perhaps some other family member related to Simeon English. Obviously the town of English Texas was founded based on the Cotton Plantation.

This is where my research stops. I know that Simeon lived in Georgia, Missouri & Texas.
I know that he had a wife Erina and they had many children and grandchildren. I know that he died in approximately 1887.

I have not been able to discover a biological connection between Simeon English or any of his descendants and my grand father Albert English, again born in 1897 in Clarksville Texas which is near what was once English Texas.

While conducting further research on Simeon English, I have discovered your link on Ancestry.com.

Perhaps you can provide the missing information concerning the English bloodlines and perhaps I can do the same for you.

Please contact me at Ken.English@hotmail.com.
My father, Harold, was Hamilton's younger brother. Harold emigrated to the United States and settled in Montana. He and his wife, Jane Moorhead (of the Hillsborough Moorheads), had 8 children of which I am the youngest and only survivor. I live in California and had recently corresponded with a cousin (Alan) who lives in Ireland.

Robert Henry Douglas DAVIS (my gg grandfather) married Christiana Sophia KANE (her father was Matthew KANE). I have a copy of the marriage certificate. I think that his sister Anna married a HARTY. Their daughter married a FLOOD. I have a photo of a Kathleen FLOOD in a locket that I inherited from my mother that used to belong to her great grandparents.

When a grandson of Robert Henry Douglas Davis died in England during the war a letter was written to his relative Dr Frederick FLOOD to collect his body and take it to Ireland for burial. The grandson is buried in a Mt Jerome Cemetry in Dublin. When I went there I seem to recall the cemetry assistant saying that the site belonged to/used to Floods (this was before I knew about the locket)... another puzzle if any of you continue to research down this line.

I have more on the HARTY and FLOOD connection, but will need to sift through my files.

I have alot more info on Robert Henry Douglas DAVIS and his family if you are interested.

I seem to recall your surname (or similar) connecting to some of my early research on Robert's brother George Frederick DAVIS- also a doctor?

I had already picked up the Harty-Davis connection from Debrett's Peerage.
My Great Grandfather (note correction) Robert Henry Douglas Davis came on the picture later. He married a Flood, and two of the Harty daughters married two Dr Floods in successive generations. I really would like to find out more about the Floods, but it sounds a bit out of your orbit

Doug

Hi,

My ancestor was William Harty, Esq. of Leggetsrath, co. Kilkenny. The abstract of his will (dated 1796, proved 1797) shows wife Elinor and children: William, Lewis, Barbara, Hannah, Frances. Barbara married (1800) a clergyman, so they were presumably Church of Ireland. I've spotted a William Harty, M.D. and a Lewis Harty, attorney who would fit for the sons.

Any connections anywhere? My database notes include these HARTY-DAVIS marriages from the Report of the Deputy Keeper:

Harty, Henry Lockington and Anna Davis M.L. 1851
Harty, Robert Way and Elizabeth Davis M.L. 1807

Btw, does anyone know the identity of "Dr. Harty" of the "Harty Cup" awarded in sports?

Peggy

I have been trying to figure out the Harty's for some time now. I have a Green B./Greenberry/Greenbery Harty, s/o Bartlett and Sarah Harty who was born around 1835 MO.

Bartlett and family were living in White Co. TN til after 1825 when they came to MO. They lived in Stoddard County, but Stoddard was a part of Cape Co. til 1835. Bartlett is in the Cape 1830 (HH #432) and in Stoddard 1840. He disappears in 1850, but we may have found him in Jefferson Co. AR (HH #106A).

By the 1860 census Bartlett is in his own HH (#1036) with a Josephen 22 Ind. There is also Sarah 2 MO and George W. 1 MO.

I found Green again in "Stoddard Union Veterans and widows 1890". It shows Greenbery Castor Twp. and Jane Castor Twp. It also states "Jane Harty, widow of Greenbery, dec'd."

Could Josephen be Jane? If you think this fits I have a bit more on the family but not much. Bartlett was very hard to research.

My grandmother was Sarah Harty b: 15 July 1867 (poss Alexander Co.) Illinois, d: 27 Feb 1933 Stamford, Jones Co., TX.
I found a Sarah Harty on the 1870 census Alexander Co., Ill; with her father Green Harty b: 1842 MO and her mother Jane b: 1843 TN. Then I found a Sarah Harty on the 1880 census Stoddard Co., MO. with her mother Jane and it shows Jane is widowed or divorced. I'm not for sure if this Sarah Harty is my grandmother, but is the only one so far that fits.
Is there anyone out there that has a Green Harty in their family (Green might be a middle name, nick name, etc).?
If you can help, it will be greatly appreciated.
Bonita

Harty Boone of Berlin, NY/w/o Paul Perkins

I have been looking for the ANCESTRY of HARTY BOONE. I had a lead that thought she might be a grandaughter of a Harty Covey. Now that there is a HARTY site--I am wondering if her grandmother could have been --------------Harty. Using Harty as an ancestral surname am hoping someone out there has heard of a Harty Boone. Her husband Paul Perkins was a Doctor in Berlin, New York around 1818. They walked to Granby,Oswego Co., NY and then walked to Alfred-Andover areas of Allegany County, NY.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have been gathering a bit of information on Roger Harty's family, in the hopes of determining if he is related to my ancestor Edward Hardy(Harty). Ed Hardy was born in Ireland around 1830. He married Mary Halloran, probably while still in Ireland. They probably spent a few years in OH, as their first child was born there. Ed Hardy moved in St. Louis sometime in the 1850's. For years & years, his family lived at 2728 Sheridan Ave. I started wondering if he was connected to Roger Harty, when I found a relative buried in his plot at Calvary. According to the death record, Florence Harty died 4/13/1901 at 1432 N 16th, St. Louis. This address was my g-g-grandfather's address at the time. I also found that Roger Harty was just 2 pages away from Ed Hardy in the 1860 census.
Long story short, do you know if Roger Harty had a brother named Edward?
I have been collection obituaries from the St. Louis Globe and Post-Democrat, and have them for most of Roger Harty's family. Do you need a copy?(I have Julia, Johanna, and Edmund's). Also, I noted your connection with the Shanahans. A George Shanahan was one of Edward Hardy's children's godparent. In addition, I found a marriage between Maurice Shanahan and Julia Harty...daughter of Jno. Harty and Mary Nealan. This was at St. Patrick's.
Sorry to inundate you with all these details. I'm just hoping to find some connection. Thank you for your time!
Erin Deitrick
erindeitrick@yahoo.com

Herbert Hamilton Harty - Well Known Musician

Not related and I don't know if this will help anyone but I have a copy of Herbert Hamilton Harty's marriage certificate from July 15, 1904. It states that the marriage took place in Kentish? Town, Parish of St Luke, County of London. The date of the marriage is July 15, 1904 between Herbert Hamilton Harty age 24, Bachelor, Musician. His residence is listed as 34 Southwich West and his father William Harty was also a musician. Harty married Agnes Helen Nicholls age 28, Spinster...how come he's a bachelor and she's a spinster?...it's not fair. Anyway, her residence is given as 153 Camden Road N.W. Her father, Albert Chapman Nicholls is listed as deceased. The marriage was witnessed by Fanny Elizabeth Nicholls and Reginald Morton Nicholls and performed by Vicar Frank C. Elliot.

Hope it helps.
Am trying to discover if there is any relationship between the three Harty lines who came from Tipperary Co. near Nenagh in Ireland and emigrated to the London and Lucan areas of Middlesex Co. in Ontario. They are:

Unrelated family # 1: Michael O' Meara born about 1790 & married in Dunnkerrin Parish Co. Offaly to Mary Harty - Children who came to Canada include: Elizabeth born 1829; Michael 1832 and Roderick.

Unrelated family # 2: John O' Meara born abt 1755 - 1765 Tipperary Co. and Bridget Harty born abou 1770 - Children who came to Middlesex Co. Ontario include: Mary O'Meara Collisson; Catherine O'Meara Donohue; Margaret O'Meara Morkin; Timothy O'Meara. These family members emigrated between 1842 and 1858. Three others in this family remained in Ireland.

Unrelated family # 3: John Harty born about 1750 and Mary ? both born in Tipperary Co. - Children who came to Lucan Ontario include: William Harty b. about 1780 married Mary Rigney; Mary Ann Harty born 1793 married John V. Ryan; Patrick Harty who married Sara Feehely.

Does anybody have any information, clues or documents that might lead to a connection between these families? Kathleen Logan Harty / O'Meara / Donohue descendant.

I am looking for a family who lived in or around Hubbard, Dakota County, NE for most of their married years.

John HARTY was born in Lucan, Ont, CAN on August 24, 1862 and married Mary Ellen HEFFERNAN on August 11, 1891. I don't know John's parents.

Mary Ellen was born on November 14, 1865 at Hubbard, Dakota County, NE, and died on April 10, 1933 at Hubbard.
Mary Ellen's parents were John W. Heffernan and his first wife, Ellen Long.

All their children were born in Dakota County, NE.
They were:
1 & 2. Josephus and John Jr. who I believe were twins as I have the same birth date in 1892. Both died in the same year.
3. James, born in1893 and died in 1918 in Rancheres, France, in WW1.
4. Pearl H. born in 1896 and married Dan Harnett. She died in 1987 in South Sioux City, IA.
5. Mary L. born in 1898 and died in 1922 location unknown.
6. John Michael, born in 1901, married to Charlotte Mary Harnett in 1922 and died in 1954 in South Sioux City, IA.
7. Daniel S., born in 1904, married to Madeline Sheehan in 1931 and died in 1976, location unknown.
8. Clemett, born in 1908 and died in 1924, location unknown.

If anyone is researching this family, I would appreciate an
e-mail. Thank you for your help.
Cathy Dennee Johnson

I am just starting to do the Harty side of my family geneology - my mother was a Harty. What I have for names so far are: George Calvin (my grandfatehr), George Henry, Helen, Jeanette Estelle, Michael, William Howard. They came from England and landed in I believe Gloucester, MA. Would love to hear from others who maybe related.

Thank you.
