My great-great grandfather Theodor Hartz came from Schleitzwig(sp?)-Holstein via Hamburg on the SS Holsatia in 1872,and settled in Rock Island, IL. I believe he may have been related to other Hartz families in the area, but I have no proof. Theodor was a cabinet maker by trade. He lived at 2106 Fourth Ave. until his death in 1884. Theodor and Emile Gottschau Hartz had seven children: Marie(1853), Emil(1858), Rudolph(1859), Theodor(1862), Matilda(1866), and Minna(1868). Rudolph is my great grandfather.

Hartz of Philadelphia / Chester Couty PA

I am looking for some more info on the Hartz family from Chester County, some lived in Philadelphia but returned to Chester County.

Here's what I know:

- Raymond was born in 29 Jul 1909 and died in Honey Brook in Apr 1977
- Raymond Hartz married Eleanor. Originally I thought her last name was Rample but don't think that's accurate. I beleive, but don't know for sure, they both came from the Honey Brook area.
- Eleanor was born in 27 Mar 1914 and died in Honey Brook in Dec 1978
- Raymond had a sister, Margaret, who married Stoner Abel. Stoner had 2 brothers Charles & George Abel, three sisters Mabel Simmons, Louise Bookman,Elizabeth B. Hartung. Stoner and Margaret had a duaghter named Shirley who got married but never had a child.
- I am not sure what other siblings Raymond and Margaret had. I do know there is a Ralph Hartz who passed away in 2003. My dad called him "Uncle Ralph" so I don't know if he was a brother or cousin.
- Raymond and Eleanor Hartz lived in Philadelphia some time after getting married. They had 3 boys - Raymond, Howard, & Roger. I believe Raymond is deceased.

I am trying to find any info on Raymond, his parents, siblings, Ralph Hartz's relationship, and any information on Eleanor. Thanks!

Virginia

Seeking information about the parents and possible siblings of Phillip Hartz 14 Feb 1818 - 22 Sept 1889. Phillip was born in Prussia. He immigrated to America and in 1845 married Margaret Ginther in Summit County, Ohio where they lived throughout their marriage. He was a wagon maker by trade.

The family of Margaret Ginther has been well-documented as are the descendants of Margaret and Phillip but I have found nothing for his parents or any other family.

Any information, hints or help would be most appreciated.

Pat

My grandmother is Lorrain (Ast) Scherer. Not sure if you have Alice on there or not but she was one of Alma's daughters. Alice fell off a poney on her way home from school I think it was and died at the hospital. There was also a baby boy not sure if he died at birth but there's no tomb stone for him. My grandmas' sister Addy is alive and from what I understand from her Laura Hartz was the one who told her differnt things about the family. I am not sure if you are wanting to get much into the Behrens side or not but the info isn't all that easy to get due to the times of the children to e seen and not heard. I will try to help as much as I can. Do you know what side of the family the mental illness comes in?

This is the same family! My great grandmother is Laura Behrens and Otto Hartz Sr. They had children, one of whom is Arline Hartz who married Rinnie Dietz. These are my fathers parents. Arline Hartz was schizophrenic and died in 1993. I have never met any other Hartz and my father met a few of Arline's family members when he was a child. On my family tree, who is your grandmother? Her mother was Alma Behrens Ast? I see her on my tree.

OBIT: CLIFFORD G. HARTZ February 15th, 1937 July 23rd, 2007

CLIFFORD G. HARTZ February 15th, 1937 July 23rd, 2007 HARTZ Sadly, Cliff passed away at Royal University Hospital after a courageous fourmonth battle with cancer. He was born and raised near Clavet and baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Haultain area. He spent many years as a truck driver, seeing the majority of North America numerous times over and receiving his 40-year safe driving award in 2001. Cliff worked hard throughout his life, starting at a young age on the family farm and making his last long-haul run in the fall of 2006. He loved to dance, loved spending time on the deck tending to his flowers, and spent many years active in curling, hockey and fastball. He played commercial B fastball for Dominion Motors and the Saskatoon Pats, highlighting with the provincial championship in 1963 on the Senior A College Lads' team. Moving to Rosetown in 1963, he pitched for the Hannigans, and the Wheat Kings for eight years and played hockey for the Rosetown Red Wings. Cliff moved to Saskatoon in 1972 and was a softball Canada umpire through the 1980s. Surviving are his loving wife, Darlene (Christensen); sons, Russell, Darryl (Michelle Silbernagel) and Barry; daughter, Linda; Darlene's children, Brad (Summer) Ebinger, Kristi (Joe) Jorgenson; special daughter-in-law, Angie (John) Heinek; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Don (Charlotte), Gord (Judy), Ken (Bonnie), Stan (Val), Vern (Darlene); sisters, Betty (Glenn) Pryor, Judy (Ray Gottinger); sister-in-law, Karen (Don) Larsen; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, extended family and friends. His parents, Edna and Jacob predeceased him; as well as his sister, Phyllis, her husband, Jack Miller; and three infant brothers, Carl, Paul and Jake. Cliff had a deep love for his family and although his occupation took him away from family and friends a great deal, his heart was always at home. He cherished the many friendships he made throughout his life and especially adored his grandchildren. We will miss his wonderful sense of humor, his warm, tender ways, his bear hugs and his quiet humility. We find comfort knowing that Cliff's deep faith in God sustained him during his illness and gave us the strength to let him go. We cannot thank enough all the wonderful people who helped in his comfort and care, all those who phoned, visited, gave words, prayers, or gifts of encouragement, offered their assistance or just asked "How's Cliff doing? ". It meant so much to us and meant the world to him. He is now with our Heavenly Father and we are left with so many wonderful memories. The Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 26th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway tracks) with Pastor Harley Johnson officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan. Family and friends may send email condolences to hillcrestfh@arbormemorial.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Dawn Engel, HILLCREST FUNERAL

from: CLASSIFIEDS - SASKATOON STAR-PHOENIX

Hi!
I haven't done much with my geneology research in the past few years--too busy. But just yesterday I was in the home of my cousin Ken Steiger here in Alexandria, MN. He showed me a book about the Steigers that was put together in the last few years that I found interesting. It has lots of history and all the families listed along with photos. He could probably put you in touch with whoever was responsible for the research. His e-mail address is: stei0149@rea-alp.com
I'll let him know I sent you his address. Also, if you know any Sovdes in the area of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Darlene's mother was a Sovde, and she'd like to have information on them. Hope you find your family members.
Geoline

William J. Hartz

I am looking for infomation on William and his parents, where they came from and Williams siblings.
What I know, he came to this country in 1874, not sure where he came in at. His mother was on the 1900 Census. Can't read the name. It does say she had 6 children and in that year they were all still living. Williams father may have been Johann. The 1920 census says his birth place was Aleace (SP?). I was always told he was from Germany.
William married Theresa Zube. They had 9 children, 6 girls and 3 boys, 1 set being of twins.
She came here in 1880. Again I do not know where she came in to this country.
They both ended up in Michigan and married and had their children here.
If any of this sounds familiar, I would like to hear from you and we could compare info.
Thanks....
Marilyn

Joachin and Charlotte Hartz came to US in 1866, bringing their children with them. Henry Hartz, b.02/23/1850,d.02/27/1856, was one of those children, he married Sophia Buck and they had 10 children. One of those children is Otto Hartz b.03/28/1880, d.01/29/1965. He married his first cousin Laura L. Behrens. They had 5 children: Ray, Augusta, Vernon, Otto Jr., and Arline. Arline is my grandmother, she married Rinnie Dietz. My grandmother was mentally ill and we have never had contact with the Hartz family. I am looking for any info or licing relatives. Thank you!

My hartz/harz/von hartz ancestors came from germany to the united states arriving in 1856. They proceeded to illinois and were in the schaumburg/palatine area to this day. They have spread out and i have relatives in a number of states. It is entirely possible that i do have relatives there however i would need to know whether the hartz individuals in indiana you speak of came through illinois first or straight from germany. If they came from germany i may still be related it would depend on where in germany. If you could be a little more specific about the individuals you are interested in i may be able to help.

Iam searching for my great grandfather's family in Germany. The first info I found on him is in a book titled Marriages in Virginia 1830 -1850. He married Sarah Hicks Sept 13, 1844 I have learned in the census records up to his death in 1881 that he was from Hamburg, He was a tailor, he was elected the second Capt of The Virginia Rifles 1853 and resigned that post in 1856. They had four children and his decendants still live in Richmond.I Hope you can find him in your records. Thanks, Vera Newton
