They moved to Arkansas and had
Bruce Howard, Harold "Eddie", Jeffrey Allen, Steven A (died 2006), Rhonda Ann Haskins. Rhonda married a Tucker and lived in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas last known. I'm trying to find dates for all of these people or someone related that can give me their information or contacts. I believe Jeffrey Allen was living in Harrison, Arkansas last known.

Update on Hoskins/Haskins DNA Project

With the advent of reasonably priced Y-DNA testing, the Hoskins/Haskins DNA Project was founded in 2006 . The project currently has 34 members with most participants being from the United States. However, there is a small and growing international representation from the UK, Ireland and Canada.

The project uses Y-DNA testing to trace the direct patrilineal male line. Within the project, two distinct lineages have five or more matches. One of these lineages is the Anthony Hoskins of Windsor, CT. line. Over the last couple months, matches to his Y-DNA pattern have been found in the West Country of England. It is from this area that the founders of Windsor, CT migrated prior to the English Civil War. Of course, the discovery of these Hoskins relatives from so long ago is quiet exciting and demonstrates the power of this type of testing.

Although Y-DNA analysis doesn’t provide the precision of genealogical records, its credibility is testable and verifiable under scientific conditions. These tests have opened opportunities to explore deep ancestry and prove ancestry when the paper trail is absent or incomplete.

If you have any questions about the project or participation, contact me; or visit : (http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/hoskins/)

(Also visit the Anthony Hoskins Project at www.hoskinsdna.org .)

Regards,

Bob Haskins
rjhaskins@qwest.net
Hoskins DNA Project Admin

I am looking for information on Ira Jay Haskin, b. 17 Nov 1815 in Washington County, New York. According to the family bible, he married Betsey Rose (b. 7 Aug 1816, Herkimer County, New York) on 12 Oct 1837 in Herkimer County, New York. Their children were Philop S., Morris R., William Henry H., Phebe J (died as a child), and Emma Almira. The oldest three were born in New York, Phebe was born in Illinois, and Emma was born in Wisconsin. I have information on Emma who was my gg grandmother. The rest are mysteries. Any information would be appreciated--especially parents for either Ira Jay Hazzard or for his wife Betsey Rose.

I do not have much info on him. I did look your William A. Haskins up this morning and found him on the Ill. state marriage index married on 12/22/1829 to Nancy J. Findley in Fulton Co. ILL. Also found him on the 1830 census in Fulton Co. age was listed 15-20 next to a Benoni Haskins. Checked the public ancestry trees and found a "HASKIN Family" tree, listing Benoni as 7/26/1788-12/10/1869 died in Fulton. Father listed as Joseph Haskin married to Deborah Beekman. When you look at the public trees listed for Nancy Findley, it looks like she is born the same time &place as the one married to the William Benjamin listed in Oregon.

Any information about this family would be helpful!
Do you know if anyone connected to this Haskin family has undergone DNA testing? My husband, a direct line Haskins family member, has DNA records on Ancestry.com and all anyone has to do is request permission to access the group. To this time, only four people have "joined" and only one is a relatively close match - common ancestor eight generations back. So far there's been no connection discovered.

I've been following this thread with interest because I've always wondered if this family might be connected to my husband's Haskins family. First of all, we live in north central Kansas - not far at all from Marshall County. Grandpa Haskins lived in Baileyville, Marshall County, at one time, and my husband went to college with a Haskins from the Vermillion area and he said they joked about being "cousins" only because of the shared last name.

Not knowing if there was a connection, I've still gathered information about this family for a long time. Early records, 1865 Kansas census shows William, 17, and Marshall, 10, living with William, 37, and Eliza, 34, Pickett.

Your research found William, Sarah, and Marshall in Clay County, KS in 1870 about the time my Haskins lived in the neighboring county.

I believe Sarah is living with Ida Ingersoll and her husband in 1900 - Osage County. Along with Ida's large family are 2 neices with the last name Haskin.

1900 Kansas census has William L. in Osage Township, Labette County, KS and next door to him is Dan Haskin.

1900 - Marshall Haskin is in Vermillion Township, Marshall County and he remains there the rest of his life. I looked at Stephen Haskin's grave marker record and guess what!! Stephen is buried in Vermillion Township, Marshall County, KS.

At one time, I recall reading a biography of Marshall and I know that it referred to his mining interests in Arizona - I'll try to find that.

Let's continue to share notes! Quite frankly, I know more about "other Haskin(s)" than I know about my husband's family. This family is hard to research.

Looking for Julius Haskin's descendants

Julius is my ggg-grandfather on my mothers side. Born in 1788 and died in 1852, was married to Betsey Seeley 1794-1851. The lived in Truxton, Cortland County, NY. I have knowledge of 12 children, only 8 which lived to be adults, William, Obed, Sarah, Phebe, Alfred, Samuel D., Ray and Joel. I come from Alfred's line, Alfred died in KS. His son, George Washington Haskin came back to Cortland County to live, then met Anna May Miller and married, moved to the Poconos area where they raised their kids, Alfred and George.

I'm looking to fill in blanks for the other 7 children and perhaps find out who Julius' father is. Any info is appreciated and I'm very will to share my info.

Re: Looking for Julius Haskin's descendants

All of Julius' children were born in NY. All of Alfred's children were born in Iowa. There's George Washington 1876, Ora Elizabeth 1874, Katie Sara 1871, and Samuel S. 1869. Alfred had been in the civil war and was dying of complications from being in the war, had to give us his children because his wife Mary Elizabeth Friedge died during child birth in 1878. Alfred ended up in the Levenworth VA hospital where he went blind and eventually died.

Alfred was the only child of Julius' that was in the Iowa, Kansas area. Phebe, William, Joel and Ray stayed in Cortland County, NY. Samuel D. was in the Jamestown, NY area. Obed J. was in Adrian, Michigan in 1862. Sarah E. married James M. Learned and they were living in Truxton in 1858, but I think I found them in 1870 in Port Washington, WI. Phebe Ann wasn't married as of 1860, so I believe she died an old maid.
Shirley & Frank; I have been following your conversations for about a week now and find them quite interesting. Have not put your people into my perspective yet though. Just been to busy. Anyway, wanted to let you both know that I have a site on Ancestry specifically just for the Haskin & Haskins family, as I am a decendant. My cousin and I have quite a bit of information, coming down two different sides of the tree, from the late 1700's. Will be happy to share if you are interested. Regards, Casey.

My gg grandmother, Laura Hall, was born in Kentucky in 1847. She is on the 1850 census in Floyd, Kentucky. In 1860 her family is in Hilburn, Madison, Arkansas. Between 1860 and 1866 she has married a man named Haskins. I'm deducting that he probably died in the civil war. She married my gg grandfather in 1866 in Charleston, Hopkins County, Texas.

Does anyone know who might have married Laura in Arkansas?

Carla

His father was Joseph (1792-1863) and his father was Joseph (1761-1823) who I believe lived in Litchfield, Connecticut.
Wow! How long have you been working on this? This really fills in alot of gaps. I'd love copies of any research you'd care to share.
As far as Stephen's death. I found him in the American civil war soldiers. Someone tracing Eliza's side mentioned that Stephen died 8/11/62 while in enlisted with the 8th infantry. So I did a little research there also found the headstone on Ancestry.com. I only knew of the 4 boys that William and Sarah had ( Daniel, George, Edward and Clide)listed in 1880 census in Wabnausee KS Where did Rex come in?
After Stephen's death it appears Eliza married William M Pickett and I believe him to be a widower with 9 children and the two had 3 together. Very large family. I think Wm L and Marshall moved together to either Kansas or Minnesota. As I found William, Sarah, Marshall and a daughter in 1870 Clay county KS census.
I'll try to put my thoughts together on what I have and send it to you this weekend when I have some time to pull it all out. I had stopped working on it for a few months and with fall & winter coming it's a good time to start again. I am so glad you saw the message I posted back in February. This is so exciting to get so much history.
I'll be back in touch in a day or two.

Shirley

Wow! You have alot of information I am missing. I only started this in February 2008. My husband's grandfather was George S. George married Elizabeth Eckley in 1915 and had one son Stanley b 1917. d 1981. Stanley married several times. Had one son who is my husband. Stanley also had 2 daughters from his 1st marriage. My husband was from marriage #2 and Stanley was married a 3rd time with no children from that marriage.

I know George was into the gold mines in Arizona around 1915 or so as I found some gold certificates. And stories I heard from Stanley's 3rd wife.

Is your grandfather Daniel or Edward? It's so great to find someone who is also looking at this line.

If you could send the newspaper item you have found that would be a great addition. I have most of my things at home so if you would't mind me checking back with you from time to time on additional thing you may have i'd appreciate it. I think I have more on Stephen and Eliza at home. I'll check tonight and let you know tomorrow. I know Stephen died of typhoid in 1862 while in service.
Thanks again

Shirley

Can you share what you have on William? One of William's sons is related to my husbands father. I know he had a ranch in either Arizona or Nevada. Was told he had property near the Grand Canyon back in the 20's. I'd be more than happy to share whay I have on William's parents and what little I have on Sarah.

Frank,

If I did this right there should be 2 attachments with 3 pictures each. I believe the first file are from the ranch and I am not sure but I think this is George(Steve) and the last one is with Stanley. I think this as I have some pictures of Stanley as a little boy and these seem to match up. The second file has #3 George and Elizabeth, #4 I think might be William and Stanley and I am not sure of the 2 men in #5. Possibly George's brothers? If you and identify any of them let me know. I have some other people I'll send a little later that you may know who they are. There are no dates but am guessing to be in the 1920's

Shirley

I also have some pictures of George with another gentleman and am not sure who it is. Maybe a brother or father. I'll send that also maybe you can identify them. Being in California, I'll see what I can find on William. I think there are some things I can get our of the library. It didn't even occur to me he was ever in CA because everything I had found before this was KS or AZ.
I have more work to do now in my spare time.
Hi Frank,

I guess I am still confused about Rex. In 1880 census in Wabanausee, KS it has Wm & Sarah with Daniel, George, Eddie and Clide. Could Clide be Rex? On 1870 census is had Wm and Sarah with Marshall and what appears to baby Annie in Clay co, KS. Do you think Annie passed as a baby. Is there any mention of this in your mothers notes? I don't find Annie after that date.
Oh, do you know when and where Wm died?
There appears to be another Haskin in Baileyville, Marshall County, KS as I received a query from another Haskin who's husband went to college with a Haskin from Vermillion area. Could be a link. The query came from North central KS area.
I also see some of the Haskins use the "s" at the end of the name. Stephen (william's father did not have it) but some of the census for Wm have it. Did you grandfather have the "s" on the name?
Talking of pictures I have a very large picture of what was told to me to be the ranch in Arizona. I'll try to make a copy of it for you if you'd like. Also are you in the Nevada or Arizona area?
You nentioned in a previous message that you had some newsd paper hits and that Ed and Stevee were bad boys...what did you find? I know very little about George(steve)
I never really knew what brought George to CA. or how he met Elizabeth. I know she was from KS and was a teacher there before coming to CA with her parents. Here and George married in CA so I am inclined to think they knew each other in KS.
Sorry not to get back sooner...just trying to put the pieces together and have been side trackd with the fires and all.

Stephen is the one I am having a hard time finding anything out about. I see in 1860 census Vermillion ,Marshall, KS he is from New Your but that is about all I can come up with at this time. I'll have to dig into it more after the holidays.
Shirley

It was good to hear from someone else who has been following this thread. I wonder if there is a connection? About what time frame did your husband go to college? William & Sarah has 4 sons together. Daniel, George, Eddie and Clide.
I believe Wm and Sarah separated sometime between 1900 and 1910 as Wm seens to have a new wife in 1910 and I think they had one son named Robert. I guess that would explain Sarah living with Ida. I did see an Ida in another persons tree as one of Stephen and Eliza's children (sister to William) I don't know if that would be any relation or another person named Ida.
Stephen and Eliza appears to have had 3 children. William, Marshall and Ida.. I did find that Stephen was in the 8th infantry in KS and died while in service of typhoid in 1862 in Vermillion, KS.

Do you have a public tree? Or would you care to share some names in your husbands family tree? There may be come relation as I am still trying to find our more of Stephen as all I know is he was born in New York in 1826.
Keep in touch.. I appreciate any and all info
Shirley;
Check for my reply Nov 11th regarding some dates including Rex. I did include a bad date for Minnie Haskin regarding her death, I put down a birth date. She really died in Los Angles 21 Nov 1962, Sorry.

Regarding Clide in the 1880 cencus, he was only one year old and I think they must have lost him. That is also the only hit I found on him when visiting in SLCity a few years back, before I found the internet. I am afraid they lost Annie at an early age also, what a rough time to live.

Still looking for Williams death but in 1930 he and Minnie with Robert are alive in Belvedere, Los Angles, Ca.
There has to be a Newspaper down there with some records and maybe in Dec. I will find time to look when we are down for the holiday. Perhaps a death Certificate but with out the date that can be hard in most states.

The Bad boys, I read some of the clippings but as they were not about my GP I did not print. I think there might have been something about disturbing the peace or something close there were also some civil actions but I really do not remember. Next time we are in Kingman I will look.

I did see the other link, and it is interesting to the best of my knowledge we have alwys been Haskin, but if you are talking about Haskin's horse you become a Haskins I guess.
Also Casey mentions a Sarah Haskin in the 1900 cencus she lists her birth place as Ohio, but she is 67 and born May of 1833, not 1851, she also lists her Father from England and mother from Ireland, which would be diferent than what was reported before. It is sure worth looking closer at.

Regarding George & Elizabeth all I knew whas what my mom wrote, but she did seem to know about Stanley so that part of the family was still corresponding in the 1920's.
Think I covered your message of the 18th.

I am working my grandmother Haskin(s) line, May, that also leads to So. Cal, Orange Co., in 1920. Maybe I will get lucky and find the time to tie up two loose ends while we are there.

We are in Northern Nevada, any pictures shared are great !

My Mother was born in 1916 in Oatman Az. So she would have been the same generation as Stanley, they seem to have one other thing in common, she was married several times.

Frank

Shirley
I found a photo taken two years ago of the firehouse and the "Water Co of Tonopah". The awnings are gone after 60 or so years but the two windows that show and the vent at the apex of the roof line are the same. the doors on the fire hose now have windows....of course there is a new fire house and Water office in town.
So...if the man with my grandfater Dan is not George it might well be Rex the youngest of the Brothers. My grandfather was not very tall by todays standrds maybe 5'6", his hair, when younger I am told was dark brown and redish.
I have found two photos of the Hackberry area and still looking
Frank
Shirley
I was just bumped of the the net and was all most finished with my message to you so if this is a repeat sorry.
Great photos.
Can only get the one of Elizabeth and George to copy on one and can not capture the one of the farm house.
Who is the young Boy Wm is holding and that George has on his cow horse.
The other photo is, and I need to research a bit, of George and my grandfather Dan in front of the Tonopah Fire house probably taken between 1928 and 1938. This is an important thread as we now know that they stayed in touch. Rex, another brother visited Tonopah in the mid 1940's and I have a dim memory of that visit.
If you get the longer version that is in net space it will explain the sigb on the building behind the Brothers, but I will reserch that today or tomarrow, as well as find our Hackberry photos to compare some mts. in your shots. I still am looking for more photos from Kingman, they are just mis-filed.
You might just have the only photo of William.
Frank

In regards to William M Haskin and Sarah Dehart.

I have been doing a lot work on this line. Like you I keep on looking for Williams place of birth and Parents.

I have a lot of History on William and his sons including Their time in the Arizonia Territory. This was gathered at the Mohave Co. Museum. Also son photos from the late 1890's-early 1900's of his sons in the Kingman. area.

Family oral tradition regarding Sarah is interesting but I have not been able to much together on her.

FFoote

I have William as the son of Stepen Haskin-born New York and his wife Eliza born Penn
This from the 1860 Ka Census.

Regarding Arizona:
I first found William in the Great Register of the Arizona Territory, listed in Lost Basin in 1890. Son George S. at Hackberry in 1888, son Daniel M. ( my grandfather in Hackberry 1892, son Edward L. Hackberry 1898. The Ranch as, I was told by my mother was at Hackberry. Hackbery is near Peach Springs on the old Hyway 66, and I think the Ranch was on what now shows as Reservation property When We went there a couple of years ago we did take some photos of the area.
The Mohave tax rolls show many listing of Haskin and others listed together in what looks like to me, running cattle.
I have the tax info from 1896 thru 1917. I took the time to break it down to individuals and locations.
Court records from 1891--
Some nwespaper hits from 1891 til 1917
Treasurers Record
Treasurers Journal
So, What would you like?
AND
who are you related to?
F.
Well I've gone thru my listings from the Mohave Museum and I did not copy any newspaper hits about George S., however there were 10 or 11 that I found. 1895 to 1910, these I have cataloged for the five sons and Wm.L. The hits are sometimes no more than a "who arrived on the train' and criminal and civil dockets-rest easy on thelater, only Ed and Steve were bad boys.
I have put a time line on Geo. S. that you might find interesting. to follow it go get a AAA map of Az.
1888 Listed in the Grand Regester of the Az. Terr. no town
mentioned in the listing, probably Kingman.
1892 at Francis Creek G.R.
1902 at Hackberry, where Wm L.'s ranch was located G.R.
1904 at Casa Grande G.R.**
1905 at Chalk Springs Black Mts (from tax rolls)
1906 at Casa Grande G.R.**
1906 at Chalk Springs Bl Mts. Black Smith hop G. R.
1907 at Chalk Springs G.R.
1908 at Kingman G.R.
1910 at Kingman G.R.
1911 at Kingman G.R.
** the two in Casa Grande are a whole long ways from Mohave, and they might not be him, or he was sent down for some reason.
1910 Here is an interesting one both George S. and William L. are listed in the Az. Terr. cencus as being in the mining town of Jerome.which is in Yana Co. not too far from Kingman. You mentioned mining so that might be a clue. Good ole William L is also listed in 1910 Fed Cencus with his new "young bride" in Liberty Ka., where he was listed in 1900 with Sarah. But thats another family story.
More on possible mining, My Grandfater Dan the oldest son went from Kingman to Oatman in about 1912 or so Oatman was a large mining camp and Dan is listerd in the tax roll of 1917 under the heading Tom Reid Mine. I know that my Mom was sent to school on shares sold from that mine.
Your news that Stepen or Stephen Haskin died during the War explains why I found Wm.L.at 17 and Marshall at 9 all by themselves at Ft. Riley in the Ka. Terr. census of 1865.
I do think I finally found Eliza , Stepens wife in 1900 in West Chester, Chester Pa. Her dates are right and I love that she is listed as a Capitalist. (how did you find out about Stepens death?)
In 1910 all 5 of Wm.'s sons were in the Kingman area. It seems Geo.S. and Rex Jay followed the old man to the L.A. area, Dan went to Tonopah Nevada in 1920 with his 2 sons and daughter. That leaves Steve and Edward for me to find in my spare time. Either Steve, Rex, or Eddie visited my grandfather about 1947, and he looked like a cowboy to me.
Oh! If you would like copies of any of my research I would be pleased to send it.
Frank

I

Shirley, Your question regarding Rex: 1st found on the Labette Co, Ka cencus of 1900, listed with Wm & Sarah and Myrlte O. age 18, Rex is listed in the print out as Wes but the original is very clear Rex.
Thanks to you I went back to the original listing Marshal & Wm alone in 1865 and there they were with Wm Pickett & Eliza and a bunch of kids. (his theirs & hers) in 1870 We find Marshal is a busy boy listed both in Vermillion, Marshall, with the Pickets and also with Wm & Sarah in Clay Co. at Sherman.

In my Mothers notes she says Steve, Eddie Dan & Rex all worked for "Pap" on the Ranch in Northern Ariz. and that Rex continued to Cowboy after they split up.
on the same page she states that Steve married a teacher from the Reservation and they had a son Stanley.
So its ok to laugh as I do have pie on my face! since my studies in Mohave Co. I have thought that GeogeS. G.S and Steve and S.G. were two seperate individuals. Ok so I was wrong. I do have a photo from the Museum that they say is Steve Haskin that I located over the weekend I know that I also have him and and maybe Rex in another photo that is misfiled.

There is another son of Willian L. by his "young" wife Minnie Kaufmann, and his name is Robert H.We find the new family 1st in the 1910 Fed C. in Liberty, Coffey, Ka and next in 1920 & 1930 in Belvidere, L.A. Ca.Minnie died 16 Apr 1875 L.A./Ca.
So We know that Wm.L, George S and Rex Jay Haskin, were in the in Los Angles area from about 1920 until--Rex died in Sacramento Ca. 4 Mar 1957.

I have also a pretty good file going on Marshal M. and his sons but they seemed content to stay around the Vermillion, Marshal area of Ka. I loose Marshal M. at age 75 in 1930.
(I do have, well my oldest girl has a book of the complete works of Longfellow that Marshal gave my Grandfater in 1890 for his Birthday)
See what a long, cold, rainy, snowy weekend gets accomplised
Frank
