Sorry to correct Gillian but Joseph & Catherine had 9 children in total. The three born after Robert were James 1816, David 1819 and Susanna 1822.
Joseph, Robert and David have a special claim to fame as lace bobbin makers. Examples of their craftsmanship can be found in Bedford museum and many private collections. Go on to eBay and search for "Haskins lace bobbins" to see examples. Here is a quote from Brian Lemin's book (read it at www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/webdocs/lb_bob1.pdf ).
"This family of turners have produced, in my opinion, more of the most beautiful ornate and skilfully turned bobbins of any known maker"
I am descended from Robert's brother William b. 1824 and I would very pleased to exchange information with other researchers
David Wright david.wright(at)mary2000.freeserve.co.uk

I am descended from William HASKINS and Rebecca DAVIES. According to my notes, Robert HASKINS (born 1813) was the son of Joseph HASKINS and Catherine CHURCH; I suspect, but have not yet been able to prove, that William and Joseph were brothers, and were at one time in partnership in London. Joseph had (at least) six children in London, of whom Robert was the last; some time between 1813 and 1816 he moved to Bedford and had three more.
If you contact me direct at gillianhill@btinternet.com I can send you quite a lot of information.

My great, great, great, great grandfather was Robert Haskins who married Mary Ann Stilwell in clerkenwell 1836. I am trying to identify Robert's parents, who I believe may have been William Haskins and Rebecca. I am also trying to find what happened to his son, Archibald George Haskins who is also my 3 x Gt Grandfather. I can trace him on the 1851 census as a 9 year old and then he seems to disappear! He surfaces again in the 1871 census but this time in a different part of the country. Does anybody know this family please? Grateful thanks

Enoch and Scymantha (nee Rose) Haskins are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton, Williams Co OH (Sec 2 S to N row 14)(as well as a almost all the family that stayed in Wms Co.) A very interesting burial is of their son Richard Haskins. It is a large beautiful masoleum with words Null Haskins over the door. Built by his daughter, it contains Richard, his former wife (that later married a Null) and the daughter)
I rechecked the Wms Co Ohio books and found Henry and Ima are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery. This I didn't have in my computer! They have no headstone, only Krill funeral home markers. They are buried in Sec 1c south to north; Row
8, also buried in that row is their daughter Jennie and her husband Fred B Dunlap.
This leads me to believe that the info found in Albion, Calhoun Co MI was just a reference to an obituary for Henry since he was Howard's father. I am going to send for obituaries for this whole family listed in MI.
On the marriage record for Henry and Ima, his name is listed as William H Haskins.
Thank you for the info on Sarah Haskins Vanniman. Since she
wasn't listed in the cemetery book for Williams or Defiance Co OH.,I had always wondered what happened to her. Her children were found in Williams Co after her death.
Carole in CA

Do you have any info about the death date or location for Henry Haskins, father of Howard? In my search for info for Howard and wife Emma Haskins, I found a listing in the Albion Area (Calhoun Co MI) for Henry Haskins b ca 1848 and d 3 Feb 1931. Henry isn't listed in the Ohio death index or in the Williams Co OH cemetery books. Wife Ima is listed and she died 16 Apr 1930. No burial location is listed for Henry, but there is an obit for him listed in the Albion Recorder. http://www.albionlibrary.org/LocalHistoryRoom/obits.asp
I have not sent for this obit since it isn't my direct lineage. It is possible that Howard's father Henry may have gone to MI after the death of Ima. The obit may clear up this mystery.

I am a descendant of this Ohio Haskins family, but not of Howard Haskins. His uncle James Daniel Haskins is my ancestor. I have done a lot of research on this family.
Through a lot of searching, but still needing positive proof, I believe that Howard Haskins full name was James Howard Haskins - per WWI draft registration 1918. His residence was in Calhoun Co MI. The only problem is that he listed birthdate as 28 Aug but year is 1880. In 1910 he is in Steuben Co IN with new wife Emma M (believe her last name to be Moore) Her parents are living with them: 1920 & 1930 he is living in Calhoun Co MI. 1920 census his name is listed as Howard J Haskins. I know info on census is always questionable so the misinformation on birthdates & birthplaces of parents over the years is not to be reliable. He and Emma are buried in Albion Riverside Cemetery,(Calhoun Co MI) He died 3 Dec 1950 (but birthdate is 28 Aug 1883!) His name is James Howard Haskins: Emma Mary (Moore) Haskins b 11 Nov 1892 d 18 Sept 1960. She appears on the Steuben Co IN 1900 census with parents Duane and Ida Moore. Duane Moore was living with the Howard Haskins family in MI in 1920.
Hope this helps and am willing to share anything else on this Enoch Haskins and Samantha Rose Haskins family.
Carole in CA
caroleg@roadrunner.com
Hi, i am in the process of tracing my lineage, but, have hit a brick wall when i reached my great grandfather,Fabeus Haskins, born 1875 in Virginia, married Rosa in 1895, lived in Courtland town, southampton,Virginia in 1900 and Dendron,Surry,Virginia in 1920. They had children Ellen(b.1897) Lilly (b.1898) and others including Fred (b.1917) who was my grandfather. I am trying to find Fabeus's parents, siblings, cousins or any relatives. Most of my relatives are from the south, mostly the Virginia area, but my ancestors could have been from somewhere else.

I'm not sure. That was my next question to you. I have a hunch that Henry may be buried in Michigan, because my Mom keeps telling me there is a Michigan connection. I had asked her if she knew where any of that side of our family was buried and she told me Michigan, but didn't know where. She was under the assumption that they were all from there. I briefly checked the Allen County, Ohio Cemetery indexes as that is where Henry's daughter Jennie Lucnda Haskins Dunlap was living in 1930. But didn't come up with anything there. Henry's sister Lucinda Jennie is buried in Six Corners Cemetery, Defiance County, Ohio and according to an 1884 Edgerton newspaper, "Mrs. Sarah Vanimins, 26 died at her home in Big Rapids, Mich last Sunday, intered at six corners cemetery, daughter of Enoch Haskins of Logan." She is not listed in the Six Corners index, so another "theory' I had was that Henry and Ima were buried there with no stone or that the stones had deteriorated.
Do you have a place of burial for Enoch and Samantha?

Howard Haskins b 1878 Ohio

Looking for any information on Howard Haskins b. ? Aug 1878 most likley in Milford Township, Defiance county, Ohio. 1880 census has him in Milford, Defiance with father Henry, Ima (or Ina) and sister Lucinda age 4. He is listed as age 2. Jennie Lucinda Haskins b 24 April 1875 to W. H. Haksins and Ina Marie Jones Milford Township, Defiance (Birth Index). Howard married Lulu Edith Gessinger 3 March 1898, Defiance. They had one son, Thomas Howard Haskins, b 11 Dec 1896, m 16 November 1915 to Audrie Walker, d 28 March 1948. In the 1900 census, Howard is listed as Hoddy, St. Joe township, Williams county, Ohio with parents, brother Clarence, sister Jennie and her husband Fred Dunlap. Howard and Lulu divorced and that was finalized in 1900.

So my question is where did Howard go? I have nothing for him after that. Can't seem to locate him on the censuses or find any definitive lead on him. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Sylvia,

Thanks for your response concerning the Hoskins/Haskins DNA Project. In order to provide a meaningful sample, the provider needs to be a direct male line descendant on the Haskins/Hoskins line. (e.g. son, father, grandfather etc.) In most cases, the individual usually has either Hoskins or Haskins as their surname.

A male 2nd cousin with the name Haskins could be a proxy for your Haskins Y-DNA heritage.

Hopefully, this response has been helpful.

Regards,

Bob Haskins
rjhaskins@qwest.net

Update on Hoskins/Haskins DNA Project

With the advent of reasonably priced Y-DNA testing, the Hoskins/Haskins DNA Project was founded in 2006 . The project currently has 34 members with most participants being from the United States. However, there is a small and growing international representation from the UK, Ireland and Canada.

The project uses Y-DNA testing to trace the direct patrilineal male line. Within the project, two distinct lineages have five or more matches. One of these lineages is the Anthony Hoskins of Windsor, CT. line. Over the last couple months, matches to his Y-DNA pattern have been found in the West Country of England. It is from this area that the founders of Windsor, CT migrated prior to the English Civil War. Of course, the discovery of these Hoskins relatives from so long ago is quiet exciting and demonstrates the power of this type of testing.

Although Y-DNA analysis doesn’t provide the precision of genealogical records, its credibility is testable and verifiable under scientific conditions. These tests have opened opportunities to explore deep ancestry and prove ancestry when the paper trail is absent or incomplete.

If you have any questions about the project or participation, contact me; or visit : (http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/hoskins/)

(Also visit the Anthony Hoskins Project at www.hoskinsdna.org .)

Regards,

Bob Haskins
rjhaskins@qwest.net
Hoskins DNA Project Admin
