I am seeking information about Gladys Wright and her family. She was born about 1901 in New York. Her father was Frederick James "Fred" Wright born about 1 Jan either in Canada, both 1872 and 1874 are listed on official records, and census records show as late as 1877. According to census records he was born in Canada. So far his first wife and Gladys' mother are unknown. Gladys had one full brother Earl James Wright born 1898 in New York, he went by Jimmy. She had five half-brothers. Gerald Houston "Gerry" Wright, I believe he married Delores Browning, I am in contact with their children, was the eldest of these. Her father was a self-employed shoe maker. Her step-mother's name was Kathleen Lenna "Kate" Petro born in Indiana. In 1910, Kathleen is listed as her mother. Gladys father and mother also sold snacks like popcorn outside theaters, before all theaters had their own snack bars and when one could take snacks in. They also operated food concessions stands at the California State Fair. My Grandfather Earl James "Jimmy" who was her full brother, lived in southern California and operated food concessions on the pier, then later moved to Sacramento. His wife's name was Marguerite often called Margaret. They also owned and operated traveling carnivals. Her brother Gerald was a meat cutter. Both her father and her brother served celebrity Hollywood clientele and were much in demand. Her father was badly injured in a fire in the 1920s and spent much of his time in a wheel chair.
My father was an only child. Gladys would have known about my dad's first wife Daisy and their daughters Teddie and Kitty, but perhaps not about his second wife, my mother Ardinelle "Ardie" and myself Susan or my sister Patty. Other people that she would have known were Art and Edna Swasey who owned a gas station in Sacramento, and Jimmy Cunningham who was my grandmother Marguerite's brother. For many years Ny dad's family, the Swaseys and the Cunninghams all lived in Sacramento, I think on 14th Street. She would have likely also known my grandmother's sister Ruth Cunningham and her husband Harold and their daughters Susie and Patti. Jimmy Cunningham's wife's name was Evelyn and their children were Tommy and Nancy. Gladys' other half brothers were Gordon Christopher or Christian Wright, Charles Hubert Wright, Frederick James who also went by Jimmy, so two brothers Jimmy, and Walter Vernon. One brother was a Disney Imagineer, and a world class expert on celuloid film.
I give all this detail, because someone out there has fragments of memories and information, and hopefully is looking for more, as am I. I am in contact with other descendants of Frederick James "Fred" Wright and would very much like to have a fuller picture for us all. Perhaps Gladys' family will know somehow, WHO WAS hers and Earl James "Jimmy's" mother, and perhaps some genealogy on that side. If you think any of these fits your family please feel free to contact me at creative52x52x@yahoo.com.
