Edward Earl Hatcher, an 86-year-old resident of Milan, died on Wednesday, evening, April 22, 2009 at the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton under hospice care.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will following the Wilhite Cemetery, west of Milan.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the funeral home.
Mr. Hatcher was born on Oct. 14, 1922 in Sullivan County, the son of Vecil and Esther Jaynes Hatcher. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, leaving only to serve in World War II in both the U.S. and Japan. He graduated in 1941 from Galt High School. He served over the years on the MFA Board, the Extension Council, the Humphreys School Board and the church board. His family won the Balanced Farming Award in 1962 in Sullivan County, where he farmed all his life on the family farm, which was also a Centennial Farm. He did woodworking and played cards, especially pitch, after his retirement.
He was married on March 9, 1949 to Betty Nadyne Spencer, who survives of the home.
He is survived by three daughters, Paula Dinger and her husband, Mark, Denise Dickenson and Shelli Evans and her husband, Tom; five grandchildren, Bradley White, Mollie White, Jacob Waggoner, Casey Waggoner and Esther Waggoner; three great-grandchildren, Amy Faye White, Raymond Edward Rivas and Tatyana Marie Rivas; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Vondell Koger, Billy and Marion Spencer, Carolee and Harry McKinley and Mary Alice and Omar Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant son, Kyle Edward Hatcher on May 22, 1952.
The family suggests memorials to the Christ Community Church, the Sullivan County Nutrition Site in Milan or the Wright Memorial Hospice.
