I have recently found a series of documents relating to my great grand father - Charles Hathaway (Head of the Prison Service in India during the Bristish Raj) - I have got a fully researched family tree done by a relative in about 1900 which takes the history back to Ann Hathaway (Shakespears wife) - I have now scanned the document which includes elements of the family which moved to the US in the last century - I anyone is interested in receiving this let me know - unfortunately even zipped I expect it is 10Mb - I have also got a copy of a letter from Florence Nightingale to Charles Hataway.

Researching Joseph Prideaux Hathaway, parents believed George and Elisabeth. Joseph married in N.S.W.,Australia in 1856 to Barbara Cameron Gale. They had at least 8 children and he died in 1888 in N.S.W., his widow died in 1901. He had a son John D. Hathaway who married Joan B.Maitland in 1896.May have then lived in Fiji and/or N.Z. for a while.Any one with any of these people in their tree? No trace of any births for Joseph, Barbara, or Joan in N.S.W. Any help appreciated.

I've got a bit of a mystery in the shape of a Hope Hathaway, who was supposedly born in 1792 and married Daniel William Will. Daniel was born 1780 in Waynesburg, Greene Co, PA.

Does anyone know of this Hope Hathaway, and where she might have sprung from? The two of them

Any hints on how to search in the 1700's in PA are appreciated, since I'm new to researching this time and place.

I am looking for primary evidence that Rebecca Wilkinson b.1764/d.Apr 2,1841 m.Apr 8, 1787 to John Hathaway b.Feb 27, 1760/d.Mar 5,1826 is the daughter of Benajah Wilkinson b.abt1736/d. bef 1787(maybe1764) and Susanna Hathaway b. Apr28,1741/d.Aug30,1795. They pretty much lived out their lives in the Freetown area of MA. I have the reference from Hathaways of America and have gotten a copy of the deed for the sale of property that mentions both Rebecca Hathaway and Susanna Wilkinson, but not their relationship. Since Rebecca is one of Arthur B. Paine's lines I wonder if this relationship has been proved. Does anyone have this primary source noted? Thank you for any help you can provide. Hathaway tombstones, Fox Cemetery, Berkley, MASS

I have received some photos of some Hathaway gravestones from the Fox Cemetery, Berkley, Bristol Co Mass that I would be happy to share if you think they belong to your branch. Some of them are hard to read, and some have the dates hidden by grass.
1. Alles Hathway, widow of Col. John, died Jan 1818, age 82. Looking at various trees on Rootsweb this is probably Alice Williams King.

2. Col John Hathaway. Checking on Rootsweb he was b. 1724 and died June 1800. Probably the same Col. John who was the husband of Alles (above)

3.. Elizabeth Hatheway, wife of Mr. JOhn, died July 12, 1758, in her 35th (?) year.

4. Isaac Hathaway - there are some numbers on the stone but I cant make out the date.

5. John (appears to say Hadeway), son of Abraham, looks like he was age 38 and died in Sept 1733 or 1738.

6. John (might be middle initial of V) son of John and Elizabeth, died in Dec, year not visible.

7. Deacon Abraham, died Aug 1725. Believe this to be the husband of Rebecca Wilbore.

All of these people would be decsendants (and spouce of those descendants) of John Hathaway, b. England, died 1705 Taunton, Mass

Hello,

David H. Hath(a)way is a young married man of perhaps 26-30 in the 1820 census of Wayne Twp, Fayette Co., Ohio. There is an older Mary Hath(a)way in these censuses as well with two boys in the 18-20 range, and two girls in the 18-25 range.

Does anyone know anything about Mary or the young adults in her household?

I know more about David, but nothing of any siblings or possible parents.

In 1871, he married Clara, daughter of Dr. Moses Wilson, of Lincoln, Maine.
By 1877, they were in Michigan where their only daughter Gretchen was born.
In 1880, they were living in Reynolds, Montcalm County, Michigan
In 1889, the three were listed in Pierce, Washington State and Territoral Census.
In 1910 and 1920, Dr. and Mrs. (John and Clara) Hathaway were living in Everett, Snohomish, Washington

The Lincoln (Maine) Historical Society's book committee is seeking any additional information (his parentage, their demise, their whereabouts in between these listed dates, their daughter's presumed marriage and her family... his practice...) to compliment available information for their next publication, the local medical history. MUSCATINE, Iowa - Richard O. Hathaway Jr., 63, of Muscatine, died at home on Friday, May 11, 2007.

Funeral Service will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Terry Lancaster will officiate. Casket bearers will be Richard Hathaway III, Bryan Hathaway, Michael Hathaway, Daniel VanAcker, Ron Hathaway, and Darrell Trobaugh. Burial will be in Island Cemetery, Fruitland. The family will gather with friends at the Eagles Lodge for a potluck following the committal service.

Richard was born on December 14, 1943, in Muscatine, the son of Richard and Nellie Foor Hathaway. His first marriage was to Julia V. Rowland and they later divorced. He later married Penny S. Trobaugh and they also later divorced.

He was a US Army veteran serving from 1962 to 1965 and was also a member of the American Legion.

He worked as a truck driver for On Time Delivery.

Richard was a singer and songwriter and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include four sons, Richard O. Hathaway III and his wife, Lisa, of Annawan, Illinois, Bryan S. Hathaway and wife, Laura, of Stillwell, Oklahoma, Michael E. Hathaway and wife, Laura, of Stillwell, Oklahoma, and Daniel VanAcker of Fresno, California; one daughter, Sherryl Henry of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; his mother, Nellie Becker and her special friend, Alfred Creamer, of Fruitland; one brother, Ron Hathaway of Decater, Alabama; eight sisters, Mary Ann Gatzke of Atalissa, Arla Stapp of Grandview, Connie Hawley of Loveland, Colorado, Jody Morris of Muscatine, Jackie Cantero of Mineral, Illinois, Dorothy Demay of Mineral, Illinois, Rebecca Hathaway of Davenport, and Lori Summy of Jacksonville, North Carolina.

GRANDVIEW, Iowa -- David L. Hathaway Sr., 72, Grandview, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at his home.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Darryl Erickson will officiate. Pallbearers are Rick Leopard, Kenneth Hathaway, John Hathaway, Jermaine Hathaway, Tim Hathaway and Chuck Hathaway. Honorary pallbearers are Warren Clark Sr. and Mernon Peck Sr.

Mr. Hathaway was born on Aug. 27, 1930, in Muscatine, the son of Thomas Charles and Edna Marie Shock Hathaway. He married Lois Missel on Jan. 19, 1951, in Muscatine.

He retired from the H.J. Heinz Company as a forklift operator after 38 years of employment.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Hathaway of Grandview; four sons, David Leroy Hathaway Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Morristown, Ariz., Kenneth Wayne Hathaway and his wife, Nancy, of Muscatine, John Michael Hathaway and his wife, Julie, and Timothy Scott Hathaway, all of Grandview; two daughters, Lorieann Sue Gleisner and her husband, Mike, of Antioch, Ill. and Amy Sue Ellen Harvey and her boyfriend, William Nickols, of Grandview; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Hammer of Wilton.

For those of my cousins that are searching for our gr-grandmother her name is Mary R Gilmore. Born March of 1840 in Carlise, Cumberland, PA...father is John C Gilmore, mother is Susan..maiden name unknown at this time..siblings of Mary are Roseanna, James, Peter, Margaret, John, Eveline and William.
This is verified thru paperwork that I received from the National Trust Fund of Washington ... kindly suggested to me by Helen on the ancestry board. I was just looking through the archives for the Hathaway family and saw this old e-mail from you regarding Alfred Hathaway/Rebecca Alford and their children.

Of interest to me is Clarinda Hathaway, born about 1798. I have a Clarinda Hathaway who was born in New York(?) on 6-23-1784. Clarinda married Lawrence Mericle (Miracle) at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Perth, Fulton Co., NY. I have not been able to attach Clarinda to any of the Hathaway families. There was a Zenas Hathaway/Rachel in that area and they were of the age to be her parents but his will does not indicate they had any children although one of the city census forms shows a young white girl in their household who was not listed as a servant.

Have you ever found out any information about the Clarinda that was the daughter of Alfred and Rebecca?

William Hathaway (b.1636; England) and wife Letitia Lawson established the plantation in Lancaster Co, VA known as Enon Hall. While they are known to have had one son, William (b. 1666), some believe another son may have moved to the Carolinas.

My family is connected to Francis Hattaway of Pitt Co, NC, and I believe Francis may be related to William Hathaway of Enon Hall. I would be very interested in comparing notes with a confirmed descendant of William & Letitia Hathaway.

I have been searching fruitlessly for an ancestor named James Hathaway (last name spelled differently at different times).
He was born in New York around 1808 or 1818. Census dates vary.
At some point he moved to GA and in 1847 married Sarah "Sallie" Thigpen who was born in NC. Their children:

-Nancy A, abt 1849

Heres where things get confusing, in the 1860 census they still had their two daughters but three boys had been added, all with the last name Ashley, which is confounding since the descendant I go through is one of them! The boys:

-James, abt 1854 (who possibly died or moved out since he is only mentioned in the 1860 Census)
-William W, abt 1856
-William S, abt 1856 (twin to the other William. One of them is my ancestor who will later be known as William H).

Anyway, Im looking for info on James Hathaway and his parents as well as info on the Ashley boys. Im completely baffled so anything will help.

Hello, I am searching for information on Esther Ramsey Adams.

I know that she was born in Watertown, NY, in 1836. Watertown is mentioned as her place of birth in her obituary. But it does not mention when she left Watertown.

She did make her way to Clinton, Iowa, living there from about 1862 until her death in 1912. She was married to a Hathaway first, date unknown, and married Joseph W. Adams in 1868.

Children were Robert Hathaway, William Adams, Blanche Irene Adams, and Katherine Adams.

IMMIGRATION ARRIVING -- A dispatch from Genoa, Carson Valley, to the Sacramento 'Standard,' says that the first immigration wagon through this season from the States arrived at that place on Sunday last. The names of the persons who have arrived are as follows:
-Mr. HATHAWAY, from Ohio, with 3 other men, 5 horses & 1 wagon
-J.C. REED, BRITTON and another; from Illinois, with a span of mules and 1 wagon. They left the frontier on the 11th of April. A large train is expected to arrive shortly

KEESEVILLE -- Mr. John D. Hathaway, 50, of Main Street, Keeseville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Sidney, N.Y., on Nov. 24, 1955, the son of John L. and Dorothy S. (Morenus) Hathaway.

John had a passion for working with children, playing piano and accordion, baking pies and decorative cakes. He enjoyed the out of doors and woodworking, but will be remembered for his sense of humor. John had taught at the Adirondack Christian Day School and was later principal. He then taught and was principal at New Life Christian Academy in Plattsburgh. His career in educating children spanned 30 years. John was a member of the Willsboro Congregational Church where he played piano and co-director of the choir.

He is survived by his parents, John and Dorothy of Sidney Center, N.Y.; his children, Seth Hathaway, USMC, at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Zachary Hathaway of AuSable, Isaac Hathaway of AuSable; two brothers, Jeff Hathaway of Cicero, N.Y., James Hathaway of Sidney Center, N.Y.; one sister, Jeanne Dahl of Sarasota, Fla.; several nieces, nephews; a special friend, Donald Garner of Greensboro, N.C.; dear friends Nancy Marrs of Jay, N.Y., Sally Sheldrake of AuSable, Glenn Cohen of Peru and many other friends also survive him.

At John's request, there will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church, Plattsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to his family for a trust fund to be established for his children.

PLATTSBURGH -- David George Hathaway, 17, of Plattsburgh, flew with the angels on Monday, March 13, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Plattsburgh on June 18, 1988, son of David F. Hathaway Sr. and Lea Mitchell.

David was a junior, attending Peru Central School. He loved working with cars and playing electric guitars with his father. He enjoyed video games and spending time with family and friends. He was a Queen fan and listened to their music.

David is survived by his parents; a brother, David F. Hathaway Jr. of Plattsburgh; a longtime friend, Lisa Garrow; paternal grandmother, Pauline Fountain; paternal grandfather, Thomas Fountain; his aunts and uncles, Barbara and Eugene Bradley, Brenda Mitchell, John and Bobbie Hathaway and Kevin and Tonya Hathaway; a close family friend, Mary Clackler; several great aunts, great uncles, cousins and many friends.

David was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, George and Barbara Mitchell.

Have information that both died in Houston, TX, she in 1928 and he in 1936, but a volunteer checked the Texas death records for me and there is no such record. I am interested in finding out about the Hathaway family. My grandmother's maiden name was Onetta Pearl Hathaway. She died in the mid-or late 1990's at about 91 years of age. (She was married to Cliff harkins, so her last name was harkins at the time.) She had Alzheimer's.

Her first husband's last name was Fifield.

There's been some debate (all in fun) about whether we may be related to the Anne Hathaway who was married to William Shakespeare. I also want to see if I can find out if we are related to the Anne Hathaway who starred in the Princess Diaries, and Nicholas Nickelby (newer version).

Mr. Hathaway graduated from Sexton Highs School in Lansing, MI and retired in 1984 from the Michigan Department of Transportation after 31 years. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars; was a member of Capital City Old Car Club;and collected pub jugs.

SPENCER EUGENE HATHWAY

Born in Antwerp, September 11, 1852, Died in
Harrisville, January 11, 1930

Spencer Eugene Hathway, 77, prominent resident of
Harrisville, died of pneumonia Friday at his residence
in that place. Mr. Hathway was born in the town of
Antwerp on September 11, 1852, a son of John and Mary
Andrews Hathway. At the age of six his parents
removed to Harrisville. On November 6, 1881, he
married Miss Wealthy Cooper, of Antwerp, at Pitcairn.
For many years he was a blacksmith. Eleven years ago
he retired. He held several village and town offices
and was active in local fraternal organizations. For
many years he was marshal of the Diana Lodge, No. 928,
F. and A. M. He was a charter member of the
Harrisville lodge, No. 821, I. O. O. F., of which he
was a past grand. He was also a charter member of the
Rebekah Arbutus Lodge, No. 155, and belonged to
Adirondack Grange, No. 530. For several years he was
president of the Harrisville Rod and Gun club and it
was through his efforts that it was organized. He was
overseer of the poor in the town of Diana at the time
of his death and was attendance officer for 17 school
districts of the town. It was while working on
attendance that he contracted a cold which later
developed into pneumonia.

Besides his widow, he leaves a brother, William; a
nephew, Bert, both of Harrisville; and a niece, Mrs.
E. H. Wicks, Antwerp.

Funeral services were held from the Disciple church
Monday afternoon at 2, Rev. Fern Smith and Rev. F. J.
Brown, officiating.

I am looking for family information on Clarence Ernest Hathaway, son of James and Senora Hampton Hathaway, b. 4-30-1901 in Pike Co. IL, m Terese (Trixie) ?. Lived on 508 S. Winchester in Chicago, IL during the 1920's and 1930's. He died on 12-04-1933 in Chicago. I believe the couple had a son.

They lived in Union Co., OH in 1861, Harper's Ferry, WV in 1870, and Cornplanter, PA in 1880. They had at least three children: Charles L., born 1863; Maude Flora, born 1868; and Clarence E., born 1870(?).

I am interested in visiting with anyone on the boards who is researching the family of Elijah Hathaway, son of Francis Timberlake Hathaway and Sally BOURNE.
Elijah married Lidia (Lidiam) CHANNELL, daughter of Joseph Channell and Judith (Judea) HODGES in Randolph Co., VA in 1835. They made their way to Missouri not long after.

JAY— William H. Hathaway JR., 63, of Route 9n died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh as the result of an Mo-ped- car accident. He was born April 24, 1936, in Jay, the son of William and Elizabeth "Thwaits" Hathaway Sr.

Bud was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Marine Corps from Sept. 10, 1953 to Sept. 9, 1956. He was a correctional officer at the Clinton Correctional Facility, Dannemora for 25 years retiring in 1985. Bud was also an avid sportsman.

He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in- law, Billie and Thomas Yando of Jay, Bonnie Hathaway of Md, and Torrie and Todd DeMar of Watertown; a son, William D. Hathaway III of Lake Placid; a step-daughter and a step-son-in-law, Gail and Richard Shehorn of Delaware; seven grandchildren and a dear friend Ramona Thwaits. His wife, Lorrie Hathaway died June 17, 1996, and his brother, Ashley Hathaway died August 1999.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Family and friends will gather Sunday at 2 p.m. at his residence in Jay. Memorials to his name may be made to the charity of ones choice. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

John Henry Hathaway, b. 1861, Seward, Neb., m. Kate (Kathern?) Luff, b. 1866, England. They had three children:

i. Robert, b. June 1898
ii. Kenneth DeWitt, b. February 12, 1900, Austin, Illinois
iii. Gertrude

Kenneth was my father and I have a little information on Robert, if that would be of any help to anyone.

Trying to find exact date and location for marriage of George Washington Hathaway and Margaret Edwards. George is son of James L. Hathaway and Maria Bond. George was born March 13, 1848 in Elizabeth, NJ and died 1926 in Newark, NJ. Margaret is daughter of Caleb Ward Edwards and Esther Smith. Margaret was born Aug. 24 1846 in Pine Brook, NJ and died December 25, 1925 in Newark, NJ. Both are buried in Pine Brook Cemetery, Morris County, NJ. Does anyone know where I can find/obtain their marriage record?

I am looking for any information my my Great Great Grandfather, Harvey Hathaway. He was born between 1820-1822 in Ohio. He married Sarah D. Moore in Tippecanoe County, Indiana on Feb. 15, 1854. Together they had 6 children: Sarah Jane b. 1855-1857, Joseph b. 1860, John Elijah b. abt. 1862, James b. Dec. 5, 1864, Isaac Harvey b. 1867, Andrew J. b. Nov. 1869. Harvey died Oct. 30, 1886 in Pulaski County, but is buried in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. All of his children were born in Indiana. His wife remarried after his death to a Henry T. Wence. As far as where Harvey was born, in the 1850, 1860 & 1870 census he stated his birthplace was Indiana. But then on the 1880 Census, he stated he was born in Ohio.

Their son Isaac Harvey, married Sarah Jane Harper in Tippecanoe County, Indiana on July 7, 1890. Together they had 9 children: Evan Hathaway b. 1891, Murrell b. Sept. 14, 1891, Ethel L. b. Aug. 18, 1894, Henry Thomas b.. Feb. 24, 1897, James Albert b. Aug. 20, 1900, Mollie b. Sept. 24, 1901, John Harvey b. abt 1904, Mildred E. b. April 25, 1907, and Gertrude M. b. Jan. 12, 1911. Isaac Harvey died in 1941 in Randolph TWP, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. All of his children were born in Indiana.

I am looking for any information on Harvey's parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
