Classification: Query
Surnames: Hatty, Hattie, Larbalestier, Lebannister, Laballister, McLeod, Clarke
I was researching my father’s side of my family when I hit a brickwall with HATTIE surname. My great grandfather, Charles William LEBANNISTER (or LEBALLISTER) was born June 16, 1874 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and died August 17, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He married Ellen MCLEOD of Harriston, Wellington, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John George LABALLISTER & Maria HATTIE.
Maria HATTIE was born Abt.1856 (probably in Toronto) to Thomas & Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) HATTIE. John George LABALLISTER was born Abt.1855 in Toronto, to Jean/John George LARBALESTIER (B.1825 in Jersey, Channel Islands, UK) & Elizabeth CLARKE (B.1831 in England).
The LARBALESTIER surname has also been difficult to research and has been misspelled many ways as well as changed: LARBALESTIER, Laballister, Lebannister, Lebestlier, Balister, Balestier, L’arbalster, Banester, etc…
I’m presently unable to trace further back with the HATTIE surname. If you have any information at all on this family or could point me in the right direction it would be very helpful.
Thanks!!
