Hello; I am the grandson of Thomas Gregor Hattie and Catherine Ebsary. Grandpa worked for the CNR Railroad as a tool & dye maker for many years and had three children. Ellen (my mother),William, and Agnes. They resided on Heatherington st. in Winnipeg for many years until moving to Lennox,California in 1961 to reside with my mother and father. Grandpa passed away in 1967 at the age of 91. Grandma passed in 1979. I am very lucky to have had two of the greatest grandparents ever. If I can be of further assistance please contact me. siebert.thomas@hotmail.com

Regarding Hattie in Nova Scotia. My grandfather was Howard Hattie. He worked the train down here. He had a Grandfather who came to Canada about 1787 with his bride and who settled in the area. It is possible that the two families are related but they may not be.
The Hatties who came to Canada in 1861 would not be related unless they striped the 'Mac' from their names.
I'll try to get some more information for you at some point in time.

Roy Einarson

Good Day Maggie;
Just noted your request for information re Hattie found while online july 12, 2006. I am a Hattie descendent and we have compiled a number of people. I have a Thomas Gregor Hattie in the family tree who married a Catherine Ebsary. Thomas was the 3rd child of William Hattie who was born about 1845 and who died in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I found once instance of a Maria born in 1959 which is a little out of the date you were looking for. If I come accross anything I will try to make a note of it. Sorry I can't be more helpful

Roy Einarson

Hattie / Hatty in Canada

I was researching my father’s side of my family when I hit a brickwall with HATTIE surname. My great grandfather, Charles William LEBANNISTER (or LEBALLISTER) was born June 16, 1874 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and died August 17, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He married Ellen MCLEOD of Harriston, Wellington, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John George LABALLISTER & Maria HATTIE.
Maria HATTIE was born Abt.1856 (probably in Toronto) to Thomas & Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) HATTIE. John George LABALLISTER was born Abt.1855 in Toronto, to Jean/John George LARBALESTIER (B.1825 in Jersey, Channel Islands, UK) & Elizabeth CLARKE (B.1831 in England).
The LARBALESTIER surname has also been difficult to research and has been misspelled many ways as well as changed: Larbalestier, Laballister, Lebannister, Lebestlier, Balister, Balestier, L’arbalster, Banester, etc…
I’m presently unable to trace further back with the HATTIE surname. If you have any information at all on this family or could point me in the right direction it would be very helpful.

Thanks!!
Maggie Barron
