Hi,

I had to move that thread over here where it seems to belong -
the Czech Republic. Doesn't fit on the Austria General board which is for queries relating to Austria of today, not Austria-Hungary or any of the successor states.

Hope you'll get lots of helpful replies.

You could also look for other boards and mailing list on the web which do pertain specifically to the Sudetenland. For instance try http://www.google.com/search?q=sudeten+genealogy

My apologies for any inconveniences this move may cause.

Tilman Brandl
[Austria-General Message Board Administrator]

I am not exactly sure where in Germany Tarnow is. In my greatgrandfather's obituary
it said Tarnow was outside of Berlin. I did find Tarnow on the map but it is not close to Berlin. August Hauke was born May 2, 1833 and died in Kansas August 29, 1915 at the age of 82. I, too, have more information that might help us. Sorry it took so long to answer but please keep me posted.

If it is any help, he joined the German Lutheran church at an early age in Germany. Hope to hear from you soon.

Liz (Hauke) Schoof

I just was searching for ancestors by myself and found this board. One question please, could you tell me where this Tarnow in Germany exactly is situated? Is it possible that Tarnow is in former Silesia? If yes, than this August Haucke could be possibly one of my ancestors. I only know that the name was written without a "c" in former times. I've got some more information yet. Would be nice to hear from you.

I just read your message dated 11/28/2000. I would really be interested in receiving a copy of the writings of Rilla M. Hauke Skinner. My ggrandparents, August and Augusta (Putnam)Hauke and one son, John Reinhart Hauke,(my grandfather) came to America beteen 1875 and 1879. They bought land in Chase County, Kansas and later on sold that land and bought land in Jefferson County, Kansas. They came from Tarnow, Germany. I can't find what vessel or port they landed. I think maybe it was Virginia. I have a cousin, Raymond Hauke, who lives in Emporia, Kansas. I have very little to go on since any family members that could tell me anything are deceased. Please let me know if there is a possible link between August Hauke and George Hauke. I am not sure if my Hauke family came from Tarnow, Germany or possibly England.

Hi. Interested in hearing of any info you have relating to Lavinia Drake - I believe my great grandmother's family to be Drake's originating in Devon, UK and that Lavinia (or Kate Lavinia??) was sent away in disgrace for being pregnant with my grandfather out of wedlock. My grandfather's birth certificate gives a Leonard Kingdon as the father, who, I also believe has Devon connections.

Thanks!

Charles: My mother's maiden name was Hauke from Wood River, Nebraska. Her great grand-father was a George Hauke, but I do not believe that we are related. The George Hauke in my family lineage was born in Lycoming County, PA, in 1818 which was before your George Hauke came to this county. In tracing the family lineage, this will become confusing with two George Haukes. There is presently two living George Haukes in the Lycoming County, Pa, area. Another one passed away a number of years ago.
Hope this helps.
Bob Wesocatt
