Re: America Haun b 1829 in Indiana

Melody:
I suspect that America Haun was an aunt to my great grandfather William H. Haun, born on either July 25th or 28th, 1867, in Boone county, Indiana (near Thorntown). Possibly, an unnamed brother of hers became William's father? William's parents both died before he was 3 years old and I don't have their names! (William and his siblings Ad, Frank, Ed, and possibly an unnamed girl, being orphans - lived with several families and lost contact with their ancestors!) A family report suggests that William's mother was of English descent. Another report suggests that William's father was one of several men who started the Studebaker Manufacturing Co. in South Bend, Indiana. It became the largest wagon shop in the coutry.

Sorry that I don't have more information! Do you have any information regarding William's parents?
Thank you!

Don Thompson

Hauns/Hawns In Alabama

Greetings! I am searching for any information about some of my ancestors who lived in Alabama after the Civil War. I have letters written by one Andrew L Haun/Hawn. At the time the letters were written he was living in Jackson County. Here are some excerpts from one of the letters dated December 1877:

"I have been living in Jackson County for the last six years on the M and C Railroad and now working on the Scottsboro section. I worked a while under William McCarrel."

"Our post office address is Scottsboro Jackson County Ala. Adieu for this time to all from A L Hawn"

Andrew was born about 1829 in Knox County Tennessee and married Jane Rice in Knox Co in 1849. They moved to Alabama and I know very little of them after that. I do know that they had at least one child named William M Haun. He married Rhoda (unknown last name) and they had at least three children: Fanny, David and Mary.

I would love to find more info about Andrew and his family (including other children) as well as William's family; for example marriage records, birth records, property records, wills, and burial locations. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might start? If anyone who lives in Alabama can assist I would be very grateful. Please feel free to email me at lee@allgaierhawn.net

Thank you all,
Lee Hawn

Yes, I am very much interested in learning more about Peter A. Haun's family.

Peter A. Haun was one of my great-grandfathers and his oldest daughter Alice Haun was my father's mother. Unfortunately, my Uncle David Frew, who is still alive in Pennsylvania, was apparently not close to his Haun aunts, uncles and cousins. He has not passed on any information concerning them when questioned about the Haun/Dolan/Michener families in Ontario or in the U.S. I know only what little I have gleaned from U.S. census records. I have not even been able to establish with certainty where my Grandmother Alice (Alyce) Haun Frew was born.
Cordially, Bill Frew frewwm@sbcglobal.net
I too am a member of this family. Henrich arrived with Johann Peter and Johann Christopher. According to family history, Henrich was a ggggrandfather, then I descend through Adam(b1800). Before Adam, I am finding a brick wall. Adam was born in Jefferson Co. Tn. and married both Mary Polly Austin and then Margaret McAlpin. Could you please help or do you perhaps know who Adam's father was? Mary Polly was from Va. however, they married in Tn. I wonder if the original settlers were brothers. Could Henrich have been Johann Henrich Haun? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
lindabnelson@bellsouth.net

While I was in Germany in 1975, I ask a German man about the name and he said it meant Rooster! He said that Haun would be added to more letters to make a name, like ....haun
or Haun...
I tried looking for the name while I was there and all I could come up with was the Hahn name. Which I was told, my family changed to Haun once they came to America, in the 1800's. There is Hahn all ove the place there.
Karen

I am looking for any information on Haun from either state. My grandmother was Jessie Maude Haun (born 1879) and her parents were Taylor Haun and Elizabeth(Eubanks) Haun. They were in Kansas and then moved to Oklahoma to homestead. Taylor and Elizabeth's children I think were Jessie, Norman, Clarence, Augusta, Jim, Oda and Herb. I hope someone out there can help me.
