Thanks Lesley,

I've forwarded this to my mother to see if any of your other names make sense.

We know that Thomas Henry Hawes married Caroline (Kate) Sarah Compton. No birth dates or marriage dates. Their daughter (my Greatgrandmother), Alice Maud was born June 8, 1886 in Southampton, England. She died Sept 2, 1931, Toronto, Canada, I think.

Does any of this make sense?

Thanks again,

Mark Harris
London, ON, Canada.

Mary Eliza Hawes

I have run into dead ends trying to find info re: my GGMother Mary Eliza Hawes(Haws)born August 1862 or 1863 Wayne Co. Illinois and died Oct 3,1933 in Holdrege,Phelps Co,Nebraska. Her obit says born 1863 died age 70y 1 m 11d. Her tombstone says 1862-1933. I guessed DOB 8-23-1863.
She married Albert Ashley Ellis (1856-1946)on 1 Jan 1879 in Illinois. According to my grandmother (her daughter) she was orphaned and was raised by the Ellis family and later married Albert. I do not know exactly who she lived with. Supposedly her father was killed in the Civil War and her mother died leaving her an orphan. I do not know if there were other children. Any help would be appreciated. I thought her father was Daniel born in Ireland however he lived until 1900 so think not.
William HAWES Family in the UK - b. 1791

Hello there

I'm working on my 3xG Grandfather William Hawes, born 1791. He moved to London at some point and appears in the 1841 Census as a draper. The following two generations were also in London in the Rag Trade. The trouble is that I have only ever positively identified him in the 1841 census - I've never found him in any of the others. However on the marriage cert of one of his daughters he appears as Henry Hawes - and there was a William Henry Hawes, born 1793 in Berkhampstead.

If anyone has any info on the Hawes family in Herts, I'd be interested to hear

We found a curious fact though. In looking at our DNA study we were 1 marker off from two different lines. They were cousins to each other. The curious thing. They were 2 markers off from each other. Figure that one out!
Bobi

We were lucky enough to have a male descendant take the DNA test.
It showed us the original American line we were related to. But, not anything firm enough to make a contact with some other searcher who had a paper trail to check out our ancestor's origin.
This is our Dna:
UPDATE: Kit #48577 (Hawes of California) with 37-marker results posted recently, offers some exciting possibilities to other descendants of his Hawes line and to Samuel Hawes I of Virgina descendants.
This participant has a paper family tree back to James W. Hawes, born in Illinois & married to California Welch, and whom died in the Civil War. His DNA matches very closely descendants of both the sons of Samuel Hawes I; Isaac Hawes, Sr. and Samuel Hawes II, as well as #41280 (Hause of Texas). The parents of James W. Hawes are unknown. We have not connected paper family tree records for our Samuel Hawes I line to James W. Hawes, at this time. BUT, DNA DOES NOT LIE. Might we be on the verge of finding a common ancestor, whom proves older than Samuel Hawes I (circa 1675-1769)? At the very least, we may be able to add more information to one of the lines of Samuel Hawes I, of Virginia.

What it did show us were the 5 other lines we were not related to.
This did allow us to change our mind on two different possibilities.
We were glad of that.
We know that our Samuel Hawes of Virginia does not connect to or descend from the following lines; keep this handy for your reference when searching.
1. Edward Hawes of Deham, Massachusetts, circa 1616-1687;
2. The Hawes Family of Ipswich, Suffolk County, England, traced back to the fourteen hundreds;
3. Edmond Hawes the cutler, who came to Yarmouth, Massachusetts on the ship James in 1635, and was the father of John Hawes, whom married Desire Gorham;
4. Richard Hawes of Dorchester, Massachusetts, whom came from England on the ship, True Love, in 1635 ;
5. John Hawes of Maryland, Circa 1791-1874, whom married Sarah Phillips; their descendants migrated to Illinois and John's ancestor was Peter Hawes of Germany.

Who knows what you might find out, if you are lucky enough to have a male in the family who is a direct descendant and willing to take a DNA test.
My e-mail Bobi4kids1@aol.com
Bobi

Samuel HAWES - Butler Co., KY

I am interested in the Haws/Hawes family, especially those related to Samuel Hawes of Butler Co, KY. He married Belle Lee, I believe. They had childred: Eulas, Eura Bell & Will Hawes. Sameul left his wife and children and moved to another county, perhaps Daviess or Muhlenburg, KY. This would have been between 1915-1920.

They also ran the bakery in Oakley and a grocery store and the post office. Associated names are Eborn and Mole.
Missy

Comparing two previous posts above by Roberta and Ollie, and you could

add the two known grandson's of Isaac, son's of Francis

Barbee named Wm. Hawes and John Barbee after ...

Francis Barbee, Jr. b: 1710 in St. Ann's Parish, Virginia d: 1786 in Virginia ...

3 Wm. Hawes Barbee (listed as grandson of Isaac in Isaac's will )

3 John Barbee ( listed as grandson of Isaac in Isaac's will )

...

So, is the first posting wrong about Francis marrying Mary,

and instead of under daughter Mary, Francis Jr Barbee

should be under the daughter Betty, ... say as Betty's

second husband after Mr. Smith, or before him

as her first husband? Two Betty's seems a bit odd to me,

too, if Mary was also called: aka Elizabeth ( Betty ),

for example.

Also, if Francis was born in 1710 and Betty and Mary were

born in 1741 and 1742 respectively then don't they seem a

bit young for Francis? That is a whopping 32 year

difference in ages!

Is something amiss here?

My wife descends from Wm. Hawes Barbee so we would like some

help getting this clarified. Also, would like to see a copy

of Isaac's will proving Wm. Hawes and John Barbee were his

grandsons, I've read in different places that was true --

but have yet to find the actual will myself.

The Hawes are an ancient Suffolk family, my research has found they were mainly situated at Walsham le Willows and are outlined in the book East Anglian Pedigrees.
