I have a William Hawker of the right age and parentage:

William Hawker baptidsed 9 Feb 1834 at Rockhampton, Gloucestershire. Parents were Thamas Arthur Hawker and Emma King. I don't have a brother named enos. Do you know the age of this brother? I have a William Hawker who arrived in Australia on the 5/7/1855 age 21, his parents were Thomas and Emma from Gloucester uk. His brother enos was on the ship Blenheim with him.

Hi I am also looking to trace my gt grandmother Lily Hawker who lived in Hallow at that time, do you have any records of her as I can not find her birth register. If we are looking for the same lady- my grandmother was never married and had 4-6 children, one of them being my grandfather Gordon who died recently.

I know very little about William Hawker, where he came from or where he is buried.

The only information I have on my William Hawker is that on his marriage to Lydia Cox he listed his parents and John and Sarah.

My great-great-grandmother Alice Hawker was indeed born on 6.2.1860 in Queensland. She married David Aitken Forsyth and their daughter Bannerman Allen Forsyth is my grandmother - my father's mother.

Is she also your relative?

Do you have any further information on your William? I have a William Hawker emigrating to New Zealand and I also have a William Hawker son of Solomon Hawker. Solomon was born in Gloucestershire in 1817 and is buried in Nathalia, Victoria, Australia.

Solomon was born in Cleeve Hill, Gloucs. in 1817
married Elizabeth Quarrell from Cricklade, Wilts in 1841 and went to Australia in 1857.
His children were
Pearson,
Elizabeth,
Percival
David
William
Ann
Esther
Caroline
Albert
Andrew
Adeline.
He was a stonemason but farmed upon arriving in
Aus. The last 4 children were born in Australia.

This Samuel Hawker never made it to Australian soil.
He was born in England and died in England.
Another couple of generations were born before
this family made it to Australia.

Hi Diane, don't think we have been in contact. I am not directly related to the Thorncombe Hawkers as far as I know (at least not from what I know at the minute), but I am connected to Ann. Her cousin Hugh of South Petherton in Somerset was my ancestor. Their and my ancestors came from Curry Mallet and round about, not that far from Thorncombe. can't help you directly and the message didn't indicate what area census you referenced but there were several HAWKER families in the Honesdale (Wayne County) Pennsylvania during the mid to late 1800's - some from Corwall, England area. Perhaps you can find a connection there?

I am researching my husbands WEST family. While surfing on the net, I found the State Library of Victoria, Australia.
There is apparently a sketch the View from Dryburgh St. Melbourne, Victoria as it was in 1855. This was sketched by Christopher M.S. WEST. Christopher WEST lived in Dryburgh Street according to 1956 electoral role. ( This information was on the site). Apparently the sketch was given to the library by a granddaughter of Christopher M.S. West by the name of Mrs. Hawker ( sorry, no first name), in 1953.
I have not come across this name HAWKER in my WEST research, but I do know that Christopher M.S. WEST married a Sarah Jane, or Jane Marshall in 1852 in Edinburgh Scotland and immigrated to Australia. They did have two or three children there. One of his sons, is buried in the same sarcophagus as his grandfather, Christopher WEST in Teddington, England, at the St. Mary's burial grounds.

There were six other children Emily, George, Rueben, Ellen, Lydia and William. The only other thing i know is that their father was born in Shoreditch in 1871. Any help would be great.

the 1810 Ann was born and baptised in Puckington, Somerset. She was the daughter of William Hawker and Diana Bailey. She was baptised 18th June 1809. I don't know anything about the other Anne.

Benjamin Hawker of New York

I am interested from hearing from anyone who may know anything about Benjamin. He was a Physician in New York City from about 1870 onwards. He was involved in a high profile court case for performing an illegal abortion and was imprisoned in Kings County Penitentiary. And then was later fined for taking up his practice again after release.

I have been looking in vain for a marriage to his wife Emma listed in the censuses. I can't find the couple after 1900 anywhere though I think Ben died in 1903, but Emma should be alive at least until 1920 (there were two possible deaths in the 20s).

I think that Benjamin was originally Benoni Hawker who emigrated to NY in 1859. He came from Somerset in England and was the son of Hugh and Ann. But I can't prove the connection as yet.

Any help with where I might find a marriage or perhaps prison records would be greatly appreciated.

I can't find them in 1901 either but I see there is a George R Hawker in the 1881 census with parents Henry and Emily living in St Stephens Road, London. He has siblings Arthur, Frederick and Emily born in Shoreditch which suggests a connection.

It goes back to Mauritius 1802. 7 generations to my childern. I have been working on it for 5 years with a little help from the start. I found most family members and rounded up a lot of info and photo,s and in the proses of putting it together. My maternal gg-grandfather was an Alfred Hawker born 1824/5 at Bishop's Hull near Taunton, Somerset. He married Sarah Pring born at Staplegrove, Taunton, in 1831. In the 1881 census they lived in Hammersmith, in the 1891 census in Carmichael Road, South Norwood and in the 1901 census in Ramsole Road, Streatham. Any connection?
