Sean Hawthorne

I'm looking for a man I think is named Sean Hawthorne who was born sometime during the 1930's (I believe.) I think he may have been born in the Chicago, Illinois area, because he had mentioned at one point that he was a talent scout for the Chicago Bears. It is possible that he may have worked in some sports-related occupation and that could be a lead, but I don't know where to look. In 1965, I do know that he lived in the San Francisco Bay area for a short time, but he left without giving a forwarding address. It should be noted that 'Sean' may not actually be his first name. 'Sean' could be his middle name. All I know is that he said his name was Sean Hawthorne. I would be so grateful for any leads.

May Hawthorne murdered by Rufus Binion

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 27 October 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

NEGRO MUST HANG

Rufus Binion Will Be Executed for a Crime Committed in 1900

Ardmore: District Attorney W. B. Johnson received a message from the attorney general at Washington, stating that the trial of the appeal case of Rufus Binion, the negro sentenced to hand by the district court of this place January 25, 1902, has resulted in the affirmation of the decision of the lower court, which means that after the thirty days’ provision of the law the case will be remanded back to the court here, which will, at its next term, January 9, resentence Binion.

Rufus Binion was convicted of the rape, murder and cremation of an eight-year-old negro girl by the name of May Hawthorne, near Ryan, on May 18, 1900. He was found guilty by the district court of the southern district, sitting at this place, and was sentenced to hang on January 25, 1902. The case was then appealed to the court of appeals for Indian Territory, and from there it was taken to the supreme court of the United States, with the result stated above.

I am a descendant of Jane(some sources say Jean but pronounced Jane)Hawthorne McLean wife of John McLean,Sr and mother of Stewart and John ,Jr McLean.John and Jane were my second great grandparents and their son Stewart was my great grandfather. One of Stewart,s daughters was Mary Luella McLean, wife of Joseph Henry DeWhitt.Mary was my grandmother.According to the History of Greenwood County, Kansas; 4 Hawthorne siblings came to New York from Scotland via County Down,Ireland .They were William Hawthorne(came about 1852),Jane(McLean) came about 1863(this from the obituary of Stewart and Jane,s sailing ticket). The others were John and Stewart Hawthorne but i do not have dates of immigration for them.Jane died 1 year after immigrating and i presume is buried in New York.I know the family lived around Peoria and Utica ,New York.William Hawthorne had 6 children .5 of the children migrated to Kansas. One of these children was William(Jr.) who was born in Feb 1842 and came with his father and siblings(his mother is not mentioned) to New York when he was 10.He migrated to Kansas in late 1868.His 1st cousin ,John McLean was living with him in the 1870 and 1880 census in Eureka,Greenwood County,Kansas.
Stewart Hawthorne, another of the original 4 had 2 daughters of his own but his wife and daugthers did come with him to America .They later settled in England. He and his second wife had no children.
I do not know if the other(John) of the original 4 had any children.
Stewart Hawthorne was the only one of the original 4 to move to Kansas. The other Hawthornes who came were 2nd generation.
I would be glad to hear from any descendants of Jane Hawthorne McLean,s brothers-William,John or Stewart Hawthorne.
Thank you,
Carl DeWhitt

He married Eleanore, also known as Lenore, Bennett, who was born Mar 1877 in Missouri.
They had one child I know of Cordia Lee Hawthorne.
Any information on family would be much appreciated.

Aria's sister Lydia married George Washington Sumpter Jr (yes, the sisters married the brothers) -- Their father was John Nesbit Hawthorne. Is this your line? I remember seeing the book "real live rebel" - do you still have it? Do you have a file you could share? I have personal recollections of my father regarding Aria....

Have the following from 1851 census for Greenock Twp: Hanse Hawthorne (40 yrs), Sarah(36), Thomas (21), Hanse (19), Samuel (17), Sarah (12), Agnes (9), Margaret (4) All but the last two were born in Ireland. My Sarah's father was John Hawthorne and she married Ephraim MacNeill in 1759. She was listed as living in Greenock Twp. She is possibly a niece of Hanse Hawthorne listed in the census. Her father and mother may have perished on the Achilles in 1847 when they came over from Ireland, leaving from the port of Liverpool. A Hans Hawthorne witnessed the burial of John Hawthorne who died on the ship. Anyone know of these folks?

Hello Hawthorne researchers
I'm not related to Bill, but he was with my family for a lot of years. (3 generations)

I know he was born in Ireland, and came to Canada before 1911. I know he was an Orangeman. His name is either William John, or John William, but he went by Bill.

He worked for my father's mother's father as groom in Qu`Appelle, Sask. When Bill became too old to work he came to live with my immediate family in 1964. He died in 1970. I've many fond memories of him. He taught me how to cook and play cards.

I'd love to find Bill's birth family and any descendents, i.e. neices/nephews. Bill never married.
Regards
Roz

James Mark Hawthorne (1854 - 1916), Pennsylvania

Hi all - thought I would re-open a thread on James Mark Hawthorne. James was my g-g-grandfather.

Through the help of others on this board, I've been able to gather a good bit of information on the descendants of James. However, I'm still stuck on who his parents were.

I've been told that his father was Andrew Hawthorn/Hawthorne, and that James had 2 brothers Andrew and William (no birth dates). I don't have the name of Andrew's wife. Apparently, this familiy imigrated to the US some time between 1860 and 1872.

However, I have not been able to locate Andrew's family on any imigration or census records.

Does anyone have any additional information on this family?

Thanks,
-Gregg Reno

Cunninghams and Hawthorns photo circa 1904? Walkerton/Greenock, Ontario

A Cunningham descendent sent me a scanned photo of Samuel Hawthorn's children in a picture. I've now finally been able to have 12 of the 19 individuals identified along with the Cunningham's, but my inbox crashed several months ago, and I don't know who the Cunningham descendent was that sent me the photo. The Hawthorn's were all born in Greenock Twp and apparently the Cunninghams and Hawthorns went to Walkerton to have their photo taken at Trussters? The other 7 individuals were thought to have been friends of the family, but it appears that Louisa Ann Hawthorn has her arm on the lap of a gentleman behind her and he, his arm over her shoulder,
so this must have been her husband James Turner. It also appears that Myrtle Edna Hawthorn has her arm on the gentleman's lap behind her, who probably was her husband, Gordon Collins. The photo is circa 1904 or so.
Hawthorn married Nesbit - John & One Half Choctaw early 1800s

I'm still working on finding John Hawthorn and One half Choctaw and I'm getting a little closer. John had 2 children that I know about Charles Henry H b. 1827 and Emma H b? One half Choctaw's (who may not have been Choctaw at all) maiden name was Nesbit. Daugther Emma married in Louisianna and moved to NY. Charles' life is a mystery between his birth and his marriage in MO in 1847. Even Charles' presumptive birth in NY turned out to be a false lead, I have a census record showing the adult Charles living in MO and listing his birthplace as Ky or My, could be Kentucky or Maryland. If you come across any Nesbits, or Kentucky or Louisianna John, Charles or Emma Hawthorne, please join in the thread.

I am looking for information about the family and place of residence of an unknown male Hawthorne who married, after 1870, Sarah Jane Smith (b. 1853 in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana). Family tradition says their children were William, Alfred, Grady, Grover and Doshia Elizabeth. Doshia was born about 1897 and married a LaCroix.
SC Samuel & Jannet HAWTHORNE/HAWTHORN 1700s

I have recently identified my HAWTHORNE line and need help putting some dates and details on this family. Oldest ancestor is Samuel HAWTHORNE, no birth date, death would have been before 4Aug1817 when his widow deeded a slave to her daughter. Wife is Jannet (MNU). I've identified two children so far:
Susannah, b. bet 1765-1784, d. bet. 1820-1830, m. Zachariah OWENS abt 1790
George, d. bet Jan 20, 1817 and Oct 13, 1820, Williamsburg District, SC, m. Jennet (MNU).

Samuel served with the SC militia during the Revolution so he was in SC by 1782. They did own some slaves, at least based on Jannet's deed to her daughter in 1817. Any help appreciated. I gladly share information.

Sharon
www.roadshometofl.com
I'm trying to find the link (if there really is one) between Nathaniel Hawthorne the author and my family. Can anyone point me in the right direction about his children, brothers/sisters, etc? I have relative who bears the middle name of Hawthorne and the tale goes that she was named after Nathaniel and that she had an original manuscript of his. She was born in 1887 I believe in Delaware.

Any information on his descendants is GREATLY appreciated!

Please email inkursari@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Rebecca

My name is Gail McClellan. My grandmother was Beatrice Hawthorne of Mt. Joy, PA. She had a brother Robert, who has two sons, John and James. I am trying to locate this branch of my family, and am also trying to find out more about this line. Robert Hawthorne lived in Lancaster for a long time. Both of his sons were born there. His wife's name was Wanda. Unfortunately, he died when I was very young. If anyone can shed some light, I would most certainly appreciate it. Thanks

William Hawthorn(e)

Does anyone have any proven records on the father of William Hawthorn with spouse Meleachy Cliborn. I know
some people show John as his father back to the England clan. So far all I can find on this connection are individual gedcoms.

I have an obit for William which says he came from
Ireland and served in the Rev. War with his two sons. You should be able to order it from Georgia. My scanner is not working so I cannot scan it and attach it.

I know it is possible that the obit is incorrect -- but I need more than a gedcom for proof.
Thanks
Linda
Ralph Wilson Hawthorne b. 12/29/1883

I am trying to locate the family information for Ralph Wilson Hawthorne. I know the following information about him: he was born 12/29/1883 in Pittsburg PA. He married Flora Margarita (sp?) Farmer. He had a brother named Charles W. Hawthorne b. 1875 who married Minnie Crissman. I also know that both Ralph and Charles worked for the steel mills in PA during the early 1900's with Charles going to Russia to help develop the steel mill there. Ralph and Flora moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where he worked for the Blooming & Billet Steel Mill until 2/17/1917 when he moved back to America and his son Robert Wilson Hawthorne was born a few months later 8/3/1917 in Buffalo New York.
I am really looking for information regarding his parents. Ralph's wife as well. I have been unable as of yet to find anything regarding them.

If you can help me please email me at
mariewagner@sbcglobal.net

All,

It occurred to me that some of you might be intereted in this message I posted on the Houston Board

JAH
------
Mr. Jamie Vans (a Vaus relative) found one additional error in the transcription I provided earlier. The error is in the line that reads, "Hen. Halhonre de Mikill Areis". This line should read, "Hen. Halthonre de Mikill Areis". Jamie suggests that this person is "Henry Hathorne or Hawthorne of Meikle Airies". I also think there may have been a David and Dorothy that lived with my grandfather. I think the Lillian I am looking for was married to a Fred. I believe that the Fred and Lillian that raised my grandfather might have been an aunt and uncle. Does any of the infor I have match your info? Please e-mail me at schleplock@aol.com. My name is Sonya. I would appreciate any help you could give me.
