I am researching the Haycock family based in Pontnewynydd, Monmouthshire (modern day Gwent) Wales (UK) and would be particularly interested in any information anyone has pre-1880 in Wales or England (the 1901 Census suggests my great-grandmother, maiden name Thomas, was born in Newcastle) and in anything anyone knows about James D Haycock (my grandfather) in the late 1800's/ early 20th century when he may have worked in Ottawa, Canada (family legend says he worked on public monuments in Ottawa - and he was a stone mason).

James D Haycock was born in 1880 in Wales. His father - James Haycock (variously spelt Haycox and Haycocks) died in 1880 in a pit disaster before James D was born. I know other Haycocks emigrated to the USA (ending up in Pennsylvania and Ohio) so any contacts would be welcome!
