Searching for relatives of Ferdinand Vandiveer HAYDEN, geologist and first director of the U.S. Geological Survey. He was born in Westfield, MA, on September 7, 1829. Father was Asa HAYDEN. Married to Emma C. Woodruff on November 9, 1871. Died on December 22, 1887, in Philadelphia, PA.
During the second half of the 1850s, HAYDEN participated in several geological expeditions to Nebraska and South Dakota. I would like to locate any collections of letters, diaries, etc. of Haydens that cover these expeditions.
