Searching for ancestors of James Hays or Hayes of Peekskill, NY. His family appears on the 1850 Census for the Town of Cortland in the County of Westchester , state of New York on the tenth day of August, 1850. Since his oldest son was born in NY, the family probably lived there before 1822.

if your line comes from the hayes' of windsor ct then i can get you back to the mid 1600's. check to see what part of ct he came from.

The earliest record of this James Hayes/Hays is Oct. 1852 in Cortlandtown, Westchester Co., NY. I have not been able to trace his parents or the location of his birth.

I have a James Hays (1778-1863)ancestor who settled in Schuyler County, NY. Wife Temperance Baker (1783-1852) and she was the daughter of Henry Baker and Phebe Clark.

James was the son of Ephraim Hay/Hays (1747-1826) Ephraim and family came to Schuyler Co., from Middlesex County, NJ. We are searching for Ephraim's parents. We believe Ephraim's father was David Hay of Middlesex Co., NJ. We believe that Ephraim had a brother William Hay - baptized 4 Mar 1750 - birth record in the Presbyterian Church at Cranbury, Middlesex County, NJ.

What proof do you have of Nathaniel's father being James? I do not find that information anywhere.

In 26 Sept. 2000 GenForum post # 3046 Bob Hayes presented James Hayes (b. 1695) as a possible (unproven) parent of Nathaniel (b.1629).

This does not make sense. How can someone born in 1695 be the parent of someone born in 1620?
