James Hayes and Betsy had at least one daughter, Mary b. 18 Mar 1802 , Greene, Ohio, USA d. 20 Oct 1883 , Bureau, Illinois.

Mary Hayes married 29 March 1821 , Greene, Ohio to Abraham Jones b. 5 Sep 1801 , Greene, Ohio d. 28 Jul 1858 , Bureau, Illinois.

In 1831, the family moved from Ohio to Bureau County, Illinois.
Active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

History of Bureau County, Churches
The M.E. church, the first class found within the present bounds of the Rock River Conference was at Galena in 1829. The second at Plainview, the same year. The third, at Chicago 1831. In 1832, the Rev. Zadoc Hall was sent to explore the county, and formed a new circuit west of the Illinois River, and north of Peoria. among other appointments, he established one at Mr. Abraham Jones', two miles north of the present City of Princeton, making the fourth preaching point in the Conference. The following persons composed the class formed at this time; James and Betsy Hayes, Abraham and Mary Jones, Barton and Susanna Jones, Robert Clark and Mrs. ____ Clark, Joseph Smith and Mrs. Smith, and Eliza Epperson. Of these, only one is living, viz: Mrs, Mary Jones.

Here is something very interesting about the above paragraph. Hayes, Clark, Jones all were from Greene, Champagian, Ohio. The Clarks, Jones and Minturn's all emigrated together from New Jersey to Virginia and then to Ohio leaving NJ in the late 1700's and arriving Ohio in the early 1800's.

This is all the information I have on James Hayes and Betsy.

I have been trying to crash down this brick wall for 10 years. Help!!!!

I'm looking for the Hayes family:
Joseph born Merrickville, Ontario abt 1847 died in Carthage May 1905.
Elizabeth Hayes born 1840 in Merrickville,Ont. died in Massena, New York April 1920.
Mattie Hayes born 1845 Canada died Ellisbury, New York May 1916.
Melissa Alice Hayes married to James Gray. Note in Adams NY Jefferson County Journal dated July 31,1894....Mrs. James Hayes of Smith's Falls, Ont. a sister to Mrs Frank Comins (Elizabeth) and Mrs. Abner Tucker (Mattie) died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Williamson in Syracuse yesterday.
Joseph is in a family plot which includes his daughters and James Hayes born 1838-1873 (I think this would be his brother but, can't prove it)and Ellen Hayes Nichol (the mother of Joseph, Melissa, James and Elizabeth) 1807-1901. Ellen Hayes NIchol maiden name was Burns. She was the mother of 11 children (source 1900 New York census). If anyone has info on this family please contact me. I will be willing to share the info I have.

Looking for any information regarding Jacob Henry Hayes b 1863 but I don't know where. He is listed in the Tasmanian Colonial Archive as marrying Ann Smith (b 1858) in 1884. I don't know when or where he died.

They had the following children (all born in Tasmania, Australia):
Ethel Annie b 1886
Alice May b 1888
John Henry b 1889
Francis George b 1891
Maude Mary b 1893
Maude OR Mabel Lillian b 1897
Albert Edward b 1899

I have no information on his parents, or where he was born.

I'm trying to research my grandfather Joe J or Joseph Jackson Hays or Hayes. Married to Mary Elizabeth Campbell, she died in 19823. He may have remarried. We think he lived in Texas after that. We found him in Oklahoma on the 1920 census. He had brothers named Tom and John I think. Please contact me if you have information. I think he died in Texas around 1950 or 1951

Could you tell us more about your Edmund Hayes?
My Great Great Grandfather was Edmund Hayes but in 1845 he was living in Dublin. He was born in Co Down but I don't know where his father William came from. May be Edmund hayes is a name that ran in the family? Some times each grandson has a Child the same name? Or were there lots of Edmund Hayes around at the time?
I know Unlikely to be connected but worth a try!

Does any one have a HUGH HAYES living in Sokane, WA in 1889??

He was married to FRANCES E. PELTON on 28 Oct 1889 in Spokane Co.
I am trying to find a gr.gr.gr. aunt by the name of FRANCES E. PELTON who was in the Spokane area about this time. Copy of marriage certificate doesn't say who their parents were or what state they were born in. So I am hoping that someone in the HAYES family might have information.
I do know that she was married about 1892 to someone else so any help is appreciated.
I am in MI so west coast research is not easy.

My family originated in Doneen, Crecora, Co. Limerick. Please note spelling of Doneen is different to that in your posted message. My family were living there in 1845, my great great grandfathers name was Edmund Hayes.

Wonder if we are talking about the same family?

Don't know which Hayes family you are referring to--my Hayes in Southern IL were from Mo but settled in Shawneetown, IL (Gallatin County) 1890-on. Mother was Mary Davis Hayes, widow of James Redman Hayes who remarried to William Davisson. Her sons with James r. Hayes were : Charles, William, Lon (Alonzo) Henry and Redman. She died approx 1900, maybe earlier, leaving the boys on their own.

I have 3 Jonathans in my line Jonathan I b 1732, Jonathan II b 1756 and Jonathan b 1801. Samuel was born 1734 and was brother of Jonathan I. My line is Nathaniel b 1629, Samuel b. 1667, James b 1705, and then the three Jonathans.
Norma Meier's genealogy site has excellent information about these lines.

Yes, I have seen Norma Meier's information, but no one seemed to follow the Benjamin line! Well, except for me. I knew that Jonathan III also went to PA, which is where Benjamin and his family went. Of course, vital records don't seem to exist for when Benjamin lived in VT. His wife was Sarah/Sally. His father Benjamin had about three wives, I guess, and only the third one is named. She's not the mother of the son Benjamin so his mother is not known. Benjamin I was a son of Jonathan I.

Gwen - Sent you a PM also, but figured I'd try responding here. Margaret is my mother in law. Would love to connect. Unfortunately Donald passed away in 1999, looks like you mom passed in 2003. Sorry to hear that.

They were adopted in the mid-50's by George & Ann Ureke. Peggy is living in San Diego, CA with her husband. SHe had twin boys.

Donald was living in Marietta, GA and has 3 kids.

I have found nothing linking Nathaniel to a James Hayes born in 1605. Where is this information coming from? Also, there is an error in this file. The name Herman Hayes is in error. This should be HEMAN HAYES. He was my great great grandfather. His son Perry Cole Hayes was my great grandfather and his son Ned Hayes was my grandfather.

I'm assuming Charlie was born in Butler County. Butler County is where several of his children were born. He was married to Ruby JONES (no dates); also married to Janie EMBRY, 1913-1997.

I believe a brother Benjamin was mentioned in one of the Jonathan's wills, but I would have to check my information to see if that is correct. Are you familiar with Norma Meier's research? I believe that is where I saw the information about the will in which Benjamin was mentioned.

Hi Hayes Family,
I am lookin' for my sister Betty (Sally) Robinson - Hayes. She and her sister Mary Ann Robinson-Burnim were placed in the Chatholic Charity Orphanage in Kansas City, MO. About 1920-1924. Betty (Sally) was adopted very soon by the Hayes family in Kansas City, MO. The last I saw her was about 1955. Her mother from Elmira and Excelsior Springs Missouri. Betty had 2 other siblings, Grover Cleveland Robinson Jr, and Eva Louise Robinson. About 1955, her son pulled a pot of hot coffee on himself and burnt himself a lot.

I would be very interested in any information that you may have on Heman. I have only begun on my quest to find my families history. I am not sure on how they came to be in PA. Mandred the son of Heman was my GGG grand father. He and Matilda Harned had Herbert Duane Hayes who was my GG grand father. Herbert had a farm in Edinboro Pa. area. I believe that Heman is burried in the Harned Cemetary in Cussewago Twp. My grand father Leroy C. Hayes came to Michigan and we have been here since.

My Heman Hayes is a direct descendant of Comfort Sr.

I believe that I am a descendant of Nathaniel Hayes. Much of my information has come from William Hayes's web site Hayesclan.com. My pedigree runs from Heman, son of Comfort Sr. I am looking for descendants and trying to expand my Hayes Branch. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

His father was a minister in Plattsburg (sp?), NY. They had moved there from CT in about 1811. He also worked around Lake George. He then traveled to PA and then to IA where he died in 1890 or 91. He was the son of Jonathan II who was the son of Jonathan I. I can give you the names before that but must refer to my notes.
