My Haynes ancestors in Barbados can be traced back to the arrival of brothers Robert and Richard Haynes (my 9th GGF)about 1638, just 11 years after the first British colonists settled there in 1627. Prior to that, we know of Haynes in England (Berkshire) dating to about 1500, when one Richard Haynes and his wife Thomasine Foxley had 4 of their issue serving in the Household of Queen Elizabeth 1st.
The Haynes ancestors in B'dos were notable planters, being owners of New Castle, Clifton Hall, Haynesfield (now Wakefield), Mount Pleasant and Bath Plantation Estates, at various times through the centuries. My 4th GGF, General Robert Haynes (1769-1851), headed the Island Militia, and was Speaker of the Assembly.
Most of the information I have was compiled by an elder cousin, who currently resides in New Zealand. He has spent nearly 35 years researching our Barbados family tree!
If you will tell me the name of your GF, I will let you know if his name is "on my radar". I am eager to "fill in the gaps" and extend the tree as much as possible at the current generations. =])
