Re: HAYWARD, Gilbert W.(Wilcan), b. 1873, NB

My g grandfather's name was Gilbert W. Hayward. Born 20 Nov 1874 (according to the death registration I have). He died 2 Aug 1969 in a nursing home in Calgary, Alberta, and buried at Queen's Park Cemetery. He did get a land grant and worked as a farmer for 40+ years. My g grandfather married Adelaide (Tedle) Rozander and they had one daughter, Alice Barbara Hayward (my grandma), born in Claresholm Alberta. Several months after Alice was born, Tedle died. Alice was raised by HER maternal grandparents, Sarah Alice Goodwin Rozander and Robert Blair Rozander. I'm sure that we have a match - I have seen typed errors on official documents before. I wonder where you got your information of Gilbert Hayward from? Please contact me if you wish to further discuss. My email is jennyhaslbeck@shaw.ca I am curious who is YOUR great grandfather? Did he stay in New Brunswick? I have never found any more information regarding Gilbert Hayward's family. My grandma never talked about him, as he did not raise her. So I know a lot more about the Rozander family. Anyways, would be nice to hear from you.

Heylo Roland, great of you to reply!! I'm glad we helped fill in your tree info some :)

You're lucky to have met some of them, I never had the chance to meet even Hannah (my gr-grandmother), though I do have a few stories about her, lol. My first posting on this led to a great number of discoveries about the family. I was shocked.

Have you met up with woodynrod or Ken yet? If not, then i have some other family contacts for you to "meet" with :)

We've all shared various info, but to be honest with you I haven't touched my family tree lines (nor talked with Norma or Ken) in a while, so it might take me a bit to get back into the swing of things...but I AM intersted! And i've no doubt the others would be too!

Please drop me a line at catcha_layter_babe AT yahoo.com (minus spaces, substitute @ for AT)

Take care!
Melissa

Melissa,

Your post about John Richard Hayward has added a great chunk to my family history. John Richard was my great uncle, born in 1876. His father, John, at the time of the 1891 census, was employed as a 'Bread Van Delivery Man' and later as 'Churh Steward' at Queens Park Congregational Church. John Richard had a sister Hannah who was born about 1880/81. His other siblings were:

Mary, Elizabeth, Emma,(I met her in abour 1952)Alice and Henry (my grandfather who was killed at a place called Pozieres in July 1916 when he was 29 years old).

I have lots of other Hayward genealogy on record. If you are interested, just let me know.

Roland Hayward

Sally-John Howard(Hayward) married Elizabeth Brooks in Brookfield Mass in 1757. Their son Brooks Howard was born in Nova Scotia in 1764. Brooks fought a a substitute for John in the war, and was rewarded with land in Michigan and survived there until 1858. Brooks was my 5xGreat grandfather.
What I am seeking is some kind of documentation of the name transition from Jonas Hayward to John Howard in the next generation. I am confident of the inforamtion and I have found some vague references to the common usage of Hayward/Howard/ and Haywood but I cannot clear establish this with John Howard.
Do you have anything that might help?
Thanks
Mark

Interesting story about Alvinza and Charity that I read somewhere. It was written by a man who knew them both in Jefferson Co, Wis. He talks about how Alvinza began taking houshold neccesities to families in a wagon in order to support himself. Alvinza was staying with a family who had a young girl come to their house to do house work.

Charity Hathaway's family was poor and she worked a various homes to help supprot the family.

Charity had always said she was going to marry for money. She said she finally settled for love. The rest is history.

I do have some information on the family of Silas Hathaway and Catherine Ferris but nothing any further back. They had a total of 16 children, most born in New York.

Charity's sister Sarah Ann Hathaway is my great grandmother. Sarah married Ariel Austin who became a prominent farm owner in Columbus Co. WI

Let me know what information you want and I gladly provide what I have. Contact me at retduck@cox.net and I can atach the family file for you.

Don

Dorothy Ethel Hayward b. abt 1926 Ontario

I am looking for any information at all on a Dorothy Ethel Hayward, born about 1926 in Ontario.

She was married (or maybe not, some question about this) to George Albert Ellement during the late 1940s/early 1950s, lived in Toronto, and had 4 children with him. George and Dorothy separated around 1955 and she disappeared from their lives forever by 1958. May have had a brother named "Red" Hayward.

She would be my daughter's grandmother. We are interested in Dorothy's parents and whether or not she might still be alive or at least what happened to her. Two of her children are deceased but she also has many grandchildren.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Julie,

I saw your messages from several years ago re the Haywards. I am doing some research on Alfred Hayward and Caroline Bartlett because they built the house my ancestors lived in in Port Hope Ontario. It was quite a place.
Let me know if you get this message. I would love to talk more.
Margaret

Thanks for your reply Julie.
I was trying to find out information on the construction of the house named "Ravenscourt" by the Haywards. According to Hamilton Township, Ontario it was built by Francis Hayward about 1847. He was an uncle to Alfred. I found a Francis Hayward in the 1851 Census of Hamilton Township, Ontario age 28. That seems young to be an uncle to Alfred. The 1848 Census of the township also shows Francis Hayward on the lot. There is no evidence of Francis after 1851.
I would like to identify Francis and why he named the manor house "Ravenscourt". The story is that is was built after another house in England. If you have any information on Francis or the name "Ravenscourt" that could be helpful.
It wasn't a typical residence of the area but was quite grande and expensive. Alfred and Caroline lived in it until they took up permanent residence at Gore's Landing. Inside the house the Haywards had painted various heraldry crests and shields representing the family.
The current owner of the house did some research in the 1980s and spoke with a Stuart Hayward in Toronto who was elderly and had a lot of family history information on paper. He has since passed away.
Do you have any knownledge of Francis or the house in Port Hope?
Thanks very much,
Margaret

Horace Owen Hayward?

I have just received my nan's birth certificate in the post (who'd have thought that could be so exciting!) and I now know the names of her parents. I did a search for her father, Horace Owen Hayward, and received a couple of matches in the 1891 & 1901 censuses. My question is, how do I know if the Horace mentioned in the census is in fact her father? They come from the same part of London, Hackney, and the years match however I'm not sure how I go about proving whether I've got the right chap. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Either you've both got nothing better to do with your time or you just really love doing family trees, lol. I think its probably the latter.

Here's another question for you about Horace. I can find no mention of his death. Surely there must be a register of his death somewhere but if its not listed in the databases where would it be?

Kev

I did a search and found a record of Horace getting married but there was no mention of Florence Palmer's name. Also I didn't think the 1911 census was online yet?

Kev

I then searched the HAYWARD births post 1911 with mother's maiden name Gardner,no joy so tried PALMER and there are several so guessed one of them was your Nan.

You can order a copy certificate online from www.gro.gov.uk

Sue

was your Nan's mother PALMER? If so, Horace married Florence PALMER registered in Hackney in Sept quarter 1911. A copy of that certificate will give you his occupation and address in 1911 which might be the same as on the 1911 census. Couldn't see any other Horace Owen Haywards on the birth or marriage index.

SueS

Retduck,

I realize this reply is a few years late! You may have already received information since your post of 2006.

Here is the little I know concerning early family history for Alvinza Hayward:

Alvinza's daughter (Emma Hayward) married Andrew Westley Rose in San Mateo in 1879.

Her name appears in Burke's Peerage:

http://www.burkes-peerage.net/familyhomepage.aspx?FID=0&...

This leads me to believe she submitted Hayward Family info to Burke's to document her lineage back to Rowland Hayward. Anyway, Burkes should have all the information because to get from Emma to Rowland they had to go thru Alvinza!!!

Good luck.

Ciao,

WithTbird2

PS - Just curious if your family has any info on Charity Hayward?
