Pliny Haywood

I'm looking for more information on Pliny Haywood. He was born in Connecticut about 1808. Married a Lucy from Vermont and lived in Massachusetts until about 1848. I can locate the family on the 1850 Census, but cannot find any members after that date. The children that I am aware of are Cordelia, Edward, Martha, Sophronia, and Helen. Cordelia Haywood married George Washington Murphy in 1849 in Mchenry County Illinois. Any help on the rest of the family would be appreciated.

Lewis Haywood, from NC, lived in Ohio 1900

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to track down my 2g grandmother, Edna, who started life as a Mellon, married a Cline and then a Latham.

Family legend has it she was born into the Mellon family of banking fame, then married someone named Cline whom the family disapproved of. Once "cut off", her husband met some untimely trajedy after the couple had a few children, then she met and married "Bob Latham" who adopted her children and gave them the last name of Latham (though born "Cline"). My family has been Latham ever since.

Through the help of some kind members here I have found Edna and Robert Latham's marriage register from 1904 in Ohio. The 1910 census has Edna and Robert living in Toledo and again in 1920. The children Carman and Paul Cline (Latham)listed all match with what I have been able to find about my great-grandfather, Paul Cline Latham, Sr.

The mystery deepens though: In 1900, one Lewis Haywood, married to Mary, was listed in the (Toledo) Ohio census has living with 3 grandchildren, Corman Klein(b. 1893), Paul Klein(b. 1896) and Helen Klein (b. 1898). There is no mention of Edna Mellon Cline (Klein), however.

I thought the trail might have fizzled until another member told me of the 1910 census, where Edna and now Robert were living with the Kessler family in Toledo. Listed as children were Corman Cline, Paul Cline and Helen. Also listed was on "Marada" Haywood, widow, listed as "mother-in-law". My thinking is "Marada" is Mary from the 1900 census. The 1900 census listed her as 53 years old. in 1910 she was listed as 65. Not a perfect match but pretty close. I have to assume that she is the mother of Sadie (Haywood?) Kessler, the wife of head of household Fred J. Kessler.

Can anyone shed any light on this confusing mess, or at least give me some constructive ideas on where to go next? Do you think any of this is plausible or am I grasping at straws? I have had next to no information on Edna Mellon for close to 10 years and in the last few weeks, all the above info was gathered. This is probably my biggest brick wall right now and feels tantalizingly clost to being knocked down.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Steven Vaught

My Grandfather (Thomas) came from England in the 1890's and settled in the West Virginia/Maryland area, his parents were Samuel and Mary Ann. From all the information that we have he had a sister Mary (Mollie) who came over with him, she also settled in that area. There was a brother James who stayed in England to join the army, he died relatively young, we do not know of any progeny. You are welcome to look at the names and locations, but I don't believe that we have a direct connection. I have let our true genie person know of your interest. She has been doing this research for a few years and is better equipped, knowledge-wise, to tell us who's who. It is quite possible that we have common relatives, there were many Haywoods in the Leicestershire/Appleby region of England.

If you are still interested in looking at the family tree, I need an email address so that I can send the invite.

Actually Victoria (Aunt Tory) was my Grandmother's (Amanda Belle Troy Haywood) sister, Victoria Jean Troy Dayton, they were the d.o. William Troy and Sarah Stevens Troy. They were originally from PA.

My father was the eldest of 9 - there were 7 boys and 2 girls - 1 girl and 1 boy died in childhood.

If you are interested there is a Haywood Family site. I will send you an invite if you would like.

Rhonda- I am about 99% now sure we are related! I think we are first cousins- once removed. Going from Frank Haywood had sons James (Elmer) and Ernest; Ernest had you; James (Elmer) had my dad and {obviously} my dad had me.

pretty cool to have a real connection! Feel free to email me- DJhaywood@hotmail.com- did you know Elmer (James)? I never met him (well, I think he saw me once when I was 6 months old, from what my mom told me). Anything interesting to know about the family?

Thanks!

I am back in Hawaii, I have some pictures of the gravesites of Etta and William if you do not have them and also I went to olive Hill Ky and took pictures of George and Mary Ellen Armstrong's gravesite at pleasant Valley Cemetary, I will try and get some pictures out to you by the end of next week. Take care Pat. I didn't know your uncle Jack was an artist my sister has a couple of paintings signed by him and dated in 95 that was given to my father. Later from Dwaine.

Hi Sue,
I have a William Haywood in my family from Derbyshire, England born in 1826, making him 28 years old at the time the Bible was purchased. William's son Ernest moved to Canada and had a son named Reginald (Reggie) Haywood. Reginald moved to Renton, Washington with his wife so there could be a connection there. Was this bible found anywhere near Renton or Wenatchee, WA?

Hi
Sorry for the delay.
The Ernest Hayward I'm trying ti trace, was born in the Rochester/Chatham district in Kent UK.
Birth date I don't have, but I would think in the 1880's, he married my aunt Edith Lemasonry about 1913 and I'm not sure when they immigated to Canada before or after the 1st World war, or After, all I'm sure is that in 1939 they were trying to get back to the UK from Winnipeg.
What happened after that I don't know.
Thanks for your message, it would be nice to have a match
Laurie LeMasonry

I am looking for information on Jessie Evander Haywood. He would be my granddaughter's great grandfather I think. His daughter Rosa Lee married my daughter-in-laws father. William Robert Haggins in Lumberton, NC. He was married to a lady named Adelaide Willis. They had 4 sons who are Carlton, Jessie, Charles and Ralph Haywood. There were 3 daughters who are Ida Mae Haywood [Rice], Ada Ruth Haywood [Callahan] and Rosa Lee Haywood [Haggins]. Rosa Lee died in 1989. That is about all I know on them. If any one knows them, I need to know when they were borned, when they got married and when and if they died.

Please any information would be helpful.

Hello Hope,
I have been researching the Thomas and Anna Haywood family, also.
I also found you on Facebook and sent you a message. You asked if David is still out there. He is not at this time online. Saddly to say, he has been very ill and isn't doing genealogy anymore. He and I corresponded for several years and even met once in Indiana. He had become very discouraged about ever finding Thomas Haywood's parents after he took a trip to New Jersey. None of us researching this family have found anything except Thomas and Anna's marriage recored in Cumberland Co., NJ and a 1810 tax list for that county.
You can email me at richharke@aol.com
Margaret Harke
