Re: The first Samuel Hazlitt.
Found on rootsweb "Hazlett-L Archives, by Becky B Frank

"Mrs Carpenter states the following concerning the family bible. "It was brought from London to Robert, in New Jersey, about 1757 by his brother Samuel Hazlitt, thought to have been a sea fairing man."

If you google Alexander Hazlitt and go down to Hazlitt/Hazelitt, Sussex-that is my reply from this site. The one before it from Gary D. Cline has most of Mrs. Carpenter's data from her research in New Jersey.

The Samuel born in 1748 was Robert's son.

In the first letter I have from Mrs. Carpenter, dated August
20, 1942 to my great grandfather; she talks about a deed from Sussex. "Also at Trenton I found the deed of property on Musconetcong Creek in Sussex (now Warren) County Robert Hazlett purchased Oct. 10, 1766, paying 500 pounds for it. This is the property he willed to his sons Samuel and James."

A note from Marlene: I am not computer savvy and am new to
geneology so I hope this informtion helps you and thank you for your resonse! If you woud like a copy of my two letters from Mrs. Carpenter you might tell me where or how to post them. I also have a beautiful picture of Captain Joseph's Mackey's grave and a list of Sarah's and Alexander's children and the location of their birth and deaths.
Re: Hazlitt/Cazalet Brooklyn NY/NJ 1830

Re: Hazelit, Hazlitt..same family

I have information about the N.J., Sussex or Warren County, Hazlelit's..starting in the 1700's with Robert. Some of it is on the internet and includes a Rev. Capt.

A relative, a Mrs. Guy Carpenter who lived in N.Y. did extensive research on the NJ, Hazlitt's. In 1942 she refers to a N.J. Samuel in a letter. "Where in N.Y. State do you suppose Samuel {Hazelit}, the half brother went? Birth Dec. 7, 1748? This Samuel also appears from a page copied from the family Bible. "On the back of this page is written..
Robert Hazlitt His hand 1788"
Note: The spelling of the name changes here.

There is an abandoned Hazlitt cemetery in Rock Island County, Illinois. The migration occurred with Sarah Mackey Hazlitt and Alexander Mason Hazlitt in 1837. John Hazelit was A.M. Hazlitt's father. Our named changed with two entries in the family Bible. Later.. a Hazlitt married a Hazelit! So anything is possible..don't you think.

Marlene
My great grandmother was a Hazlitt. She was born February 14, 1853, married William Wallace Miller and had several children, including Florence Ann Miller (Colgrove), my grandmother, and Isabella H. Miller (Eaton), who was born September 23, 1876 and died Jan. 23, 1905. The was also a brother "Uncle Charlie" who had a farm in Alberta. The family lived on a farm in the Peterborough, Ont. area. This information comes from a photograph of a grave stone in Ontario. Our branch of the family moved to western Canada in the early 1900s and we have relatives in the Calgary area (I am in Vancouver, Canada). My grandmother lived much of her life in Los Angeles.
