Can anyone tell me the first name and any family history of "Mr. Heacock" who owned the grist mill and carding mill at Caughdenoy, Oswego county, New York in the early days of the village ? The History of Hastings only states that the mill eventually burned. My 3g-grandfather was Elijah Josephus Simmons and he was an orphan, born 1803, apprenticed to a Mr. Heacock. Elijah is first found in 1830 at Hastings,NY. The Myron Stevens who was the first settler at Caughdenoy was Elijah's father in law. I believe this Mr. Heacock was the man who raised Elijah. I have been searching for Elijah's parents for >30 years. This Mr. Heacock and his lineage may help me to find Elijah's birthplace. Thank you very much.
