2. I cannot find the baptism you refer to either, although I agree that Compton Dando is in the right part of the country. I believe that the data may be in error or that the event has not been transcribed and is therefore only accessible to personal searchers. Hi Steven,

I have been supplied with a line back to 1740, but am not sure if it is correct.

Chris sent me a message telling me about a John Heal baptised at St Mary's Compton Dando 6th March 1815 parents are John and Hester Heal, labourer.

Have not been able to find any records, maybe you could look this up and have more luck than me. Are you in England? I'm in Australia and more resourses are limited or i'm looking in the wrong place

It would seem we are related my G G Grandfather was Thomas Day Heal who was James brother. I have only be able to go back to John Heal his father so am very interested if you have been able to go back further?

I have a Francis Heal (born betw. 1805 - 1811 ... not found birth and this is based on census info), living in Kilmersdon on 1841 census, but birthplace given as Holcombe.

As yet I've not found parents for him. He married Sarah Hanco(x)cks on 26 Dec 1831 at St Margaret's Babington. Children: Matilda 1833, Sarah 1836, Emma 1838, Ellen betwn 1841 - 1844, George 1845, Frederick Charles 1849.

Ellen is my gt-gt grandmother.

Does anyone have any of these in their records, as I'm finding it difficult to link them in to any other Heal/Hale trees!

I am helping my cousin research the Heal Family.
I have Frederick George Heal in the tree.

Frederick and Annie had 8 children (that I know of)
Frederick George,Herbert William (your grandfather), Ernest Reginald, Charles Anderson, Dudley Vernon, Harold Victor Gordon, Mary Hilda, Wilfred Hugh

I have quite a bit on the Heal tree. Your post was along time ago now. Are you still looking for information or have you found it by now?

On the basis of the very limited data you've supplied I can't make a conclusive link with my Heals, yet the other information ("yeoman farmers", "Bishop Sutton / Chew Magna", "1200") corresponds precisely. I do have other data including Heal trees supplied by a gentleman who is (probably) a 6th cousin which I will need to check. It would be helpful to have any additional information about your earliest generation of Heals, such a places of birth, dates and places of death. I'll happily send you corresponding data from my files for you to check over.

Thanks for your reply, I was told that my Heals came from Bishop Sutton and Chew Magna area of North Somerset, they date back to 1200. They were Yeoman Farmers. The family disapated during and after the English Civil War. They only information I have is

Unknown Heal (but thought to be from Bishop Sutton / Chew Magna)

sons:- William b 1740, David b1742, John b 1744, Richard b 1746

William married Jane Brook b 1745 at Glastonbury St. John 19/7/1764
Child:- William b 1765 married Elizabeth (betty) Roggers b1770 d 1856
They have 6 children William b 1795, John b 1797, James b 1801, Daniel b1805, Sarah b 1809, John(2) 1810 - all born Glastonbury.

If you need any further information, I have the rest of the tree to present day,

I have many Heals from Chew Magna in my tree, with documented certainty from the late 1400s through to the 1700s and less certainly for another 200 or so years earlier. I'll happily check this over for you if you can give me some names and approximate dates of any of your relatives who may have been connected with Chew Magna.

Yes, Simon and Ann are my great-great grandparents. After Ann died, he remarried. Their two daughters stayed in England and I believe a son, William. However, My great grandfather, Charles, came to the United States with his wife, Betsey, and small children and settled in Illinois.This was about 1842.

I have no proven connection with the Bridgwater Heal[e]s. I note that Chris Heal has a Simon Heal b bef 1790 who married Ann Toulmin (b bef 1791) in St Mary's Bridgwater on 3 Jan 1802. I suggest you contact him; I'll mail you the address off-line.

I have several Richard Heals (spelling may vary) in my tree, the latest of whom was baptised (probably but not necessarily in West Pennard, Somerset) in 1610 and who could therefore be your "Richard Heale senr". I have details of his parents and other relatives, but nothing on his wife, family, etc (if any). Let me know if you would like more information.

My grandfather was William Striven Heal(born in Canada circa 1860)...he was a taxidermist and lived mostly in NYC as far as I know. His first marriage was to Mary Francis Murphy in NYC in 1893 with whom he had my father Elbert Montgomery Heal(born 1887). He may have been married (second) to Margaret Murphy the sister of Mary Francis Murphy. It would be fun to find I had relatives from that union also.

The only information I have is from the Heal-Heald Geneological Workbook by Isabel Morse Maresh of Morrill, Me.
She wrote "Delon or Delone or perhaps Dillon. Fled from France after the Revolution of the Edict of Nantes. Made a new name to insure he and his children should be free (not) traced or hunted as fugitives from France. Either a protestant minister, called a French Huguenot, or the son of a French Huguenot."

Anthony Heal

Has anyone heard anything of Anthony Heal in the last few months? I sent him some Heal data last Autumn and have had no response since; today I have had an e-mail message returned as undeliverable. I had hoped to be able to compare his early Heals with mine (back to about 1490 in Chew Magna). Perhaps you have information such as Gedcom files that he has shared with you in the past - if so I'd be very pleased to hear from you.

I'd be even more pleased to hear that all is well with Anthony.

I am a Heal descendant. My Heals came from somerset. My gr gr gr great-grandfather William Heal was b.1788 in Paulton. He married Mary unknown. I desend from William and Mary's son Jacob Heal b.1828 who married Ellen Atwood. Jacob and Ellen-with their children-moved to Wales. I think that Jacob and family remained in Wales. I was born in Wales and live here. Maybe there are Heals in Wales that desend from the Heals in Somerset. My email is daviesemma69@aol.com.

Heal/Hele/Heale of Salisbury, Wiltshire

Dr Henry Hele of Salisbury (1689-24/6/1778) was the son of Richard Hele of Salisbury. My searches for Richard Hele have proved fruitless.
However, the Salisbury City Archives have the following:

"Bonds of bastardy and settlement:
Name and Details: Scriven William, (son of Robert, pinmaker, deceased); Bondsmen: Richard Heale senr., Richard Heale junr., both musicians; Parish: St. Edmund
Creation date: 1672"

Does anyone know if there may be some connection? Of what may be the ancestry of Dr Henry Hele?

My G G Granfther was James Ace Heal b 1854 married Mary Anne Lane in 1878, they lived at old wells road, glastonbury. His parents were John b 1810 married a Maria Day. Would appreciate any info. Someone informed me that his descendants came from chew madga in lt 1600 to early 1700?

I know James' information is correct, as iv'e had contact from 2nd cousin living in wells.

Woods book...I have collaberated with Anthony Heal for some of my information. My line came from Chew Magna to Clutton Somerset. Do you have any interest in this early part of the Heale family? My Great Grandfather was born in Nether Stowey Bridgewater in 1865. His name was Edwin Davis Heale. His Father was a John Heale who was a Miller by trade. Have you anything on the Heale's who lived in that area.

Anthony - I regret that Charles and Sarah don't appear in my records at all. My Heals were in Chew Magna (Somerset) in the late 1400s, then elsewhere in Somerset and Wiltshire before coming to London about 200 years ago, where they became bed manufacturers. The only Australian connection (apart from my own birth there) was through Ambrose who was last heard of in Mauritius in 1851/53 and may have been en route for Australia. I'll be glad to send you a .GED or other file to see if you can connect your Heals to mine; if you would like this please reply off-list. Rod

I do have John, but unconnected to my family. The information came from an old email from someone else whose adress no longer works: marriage 1867 Bridgwater to Mary Davis, died Aston, Erdington, Warwickshire, 1874.

I do have this gentleman on record, but I did not chase him as I did not believe he was family. The information comes only from the 1881 census, the Somerset marriage index and freeBMD.

John Heal married Maria Day 17 May 1834, parish of St John, Glastonbury, son James Ace, (married Mary Ann Lane at Wells 3Q 1878) their son Hubert Ace, born c1880, all living 1881 at Old Road, Glastonbury.

I note, just checking, that a John Heal was baptised 6 March 1815 at St Mary's, Compton Dando, right for your Chew Magna, to John and Hester Heal, labourer.
