First about the Plantation: In 1871 The Dogwood Ridge Plantation, comprise of about 8,000 acres was bought by JAMES MARTIN HEATHMAN. Name was changed to HEATHMAN PLANTATION.
JAMES MARTIN HEATHMAN, married LILLIE BROWN, on Nov. 1, 1882 in Madison, Mississippi. LILLIE BROWN was the d/o JAMES BROWN, He was a wealthy Mississippi planter-entrepreneur. In 1848, JAMES BROWN, build the house now called '' BEAUVOIR" . The BROWN family continued to occcupy Beauvor until forced to flee inland for safety with the onset of the Civil War. Continuing problems following the death of JAMES BROWN forced the sale of the property by court auction in 1873. Frank Johnston the new owner, sold the land and house in less than two months to Sarah Dorsey, who names it BEAUVOIR. She inturn sold it to the former president of the Confederacy JEFFERSON DAVIS.. This home is on the National Register of Historic Places . Can be seen in Biloxi, Mississippi.
On Sept. 12, 1885 (As family history tell's it JAMES MARTIN HEATHMAN was kicked by a horse and killed. Only a few years after he married. He is buried at the Indianola City Cemetery Section A , Indianola City, Sunflower Co., Mississippi. Date of birth taken from headstone is Feb. 15, 1846. Died Sept. 12, 1885.
His widow, LILLIE BROWN HEATHMAN, re-married on May 15, 1888 to JAMES A. CRAWFORD in Sunflower Co., Mississippi.
She was the mother of JAMES MARTIN HEATHMAN II, he married INA MAY SNYDER of SNYDER'S BLUFF at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
They had two son's JAMES MARTIN the 3rd. & ALEX CRAWFORD HEATHMAN.
Now I know many people believe that the widow of JAMES MARTIN HEATHMAN, married GEORGE KINNEBREW SMITH. Well she DIDN'T.
AUGUSTA HEATHMAN did. She was in fact the sister of JAMES MARTIN HEATHMAN.
Parents were: BURRAGE HEATHMAN & ELVIRA MATILDA MARTIN. They were married Sept. 19, 1843 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. You can find them on the 1860 Census of Chickasaw City, Shelby Co., Tennessee.

HEATHMAN, JOHN, age 11, b. in Mississippi
SO as you can see they were brother & sister, not husband & wife.

Listed a Non-Resident Notice to W.F. HEATHMAN, GEORGE K. SMITH and wife, AUGUSTA SMITH, LILLIE HEATHMAN AND ANNIE AUGUSTA HEATHMAN. ( These are the children of BURRAGE and the widow of JAMES, ANNIE AUGUSTA HEATHMAN and AUGUSTA SMITH are one and the same. W. F. HEATHMAN is son WILLIAM FELIX HEATHMAN. This property may have been left to the children of BURRAGE HEATHMAN, after he died?) To make their appenrance in the courthouse of Shelby Co., in Memphis, Tenn. on or before the first Monday in April 1886, for the purpose of stopping and paying taxes on certain property in the State of Tennessee, Co., of Shelby or property will be sold. ETC.

HEZEKIAH HEATHMAN was born in 1772 in Maryland. He died in 1852 in Rowan Co., North Carolina, leaving a Will. Which can be found in Will Book K on page 147. In this will, he named his wife MARY ANN, daughters, ELIZABETH & PROVIDENCE, son's DAVID, JOHN N., BURRAGE and WILLIAM.
