HEBBARD or COBURN? 1776 CT family "mystery"

Posted: 22 Aug 2011 9:18AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Hebbard, Coburn, Butts
One of my ancestors was Elizabeth Hebbard OR Coburn who, in 1776, married James Butts, a widower, in Hampton, Windham, CT. According to a contribution by Judy Buss (last updated in 2005) Elizabeth had been previously married and there's SOME deal of confusion as tho which of the names, Coburn and Hebbard, was her maiden name and which was her married name prior to marrying James.

Elizabeth was believed to be about age 26 when she married James.

The information was reportedly documented in the CT Barbour Collection.

Elizabeth'd death reportedly occurred on the same day as the birth of her fifth child, Luther, on 9/1/1783 in Ashford, Windham Co., CT. I've been unable to verify Elizabeth's DOD (or DOB) or find a recorded place of burial.

If you can be of assistance, please reply . . .

Leslie Smith (AZ)
